Great great review, Eddy. I bought this album when it came out and proudly carried it around with me at school and played it on the record player in the school media center, just to try to prove to everyone that they HAD to go buy this thing! It blew me away that much. You are 100% right about how different times (and our culture) were back then. SO different. Cheers! Jeff

The full on Led Zeppelin video is one of your best, so it goes without saying this video is great!! For years as a teenager I only had a mix tape somebody had made me of this album (they tried to jam it into a 60 minute cassette) so all of the side enders cut off, and a song or two were missing entirely. It really screwed up my enjoyment of the album. A few years later I was on vacation and picked this up at a record store, and it became the only thing I listened for the next month haha

Yeah, the full Led Zep video is one of my personal faves (although I now have a major issue with the ranking and ranking videos in general). Yeah, an abridged version of Physical Graffiti doesn't work for the same reasons it wouldn't work for The White Album or Exile on Main St: the track sequencing is a major factor in the awesomeness. On a side note, I've watched half of your Nico video and will watch the second half tonight...!!

I normally dislike ranking videos, but I've obviously always enjoyed yours because you present the larger context of the band, and as you said it is a snapshot of a moment in time. In other words, yours have never felt gimmicky in any way. And of course I couldn't agree with you more about the sequencing. Though, that has never stopped me from pulling out the songs recorded in 1974 (amending Houses Of The Holy and III along the way) and fashioning a single album that is both the logical follow up to what came before, but more overtly anticipates Presence. That being said, it does take away from the majesty of their apex so clearly Jimmy Page knew what he was doing haha. Oh, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the Nico video!!

Great review! I really like your style and agree. I love this album too. It’s dense, dark, powerful, otherworldly and mysterious. It’s the druggiest sounding album in the most decadent sense - it’s raw and disorienting at times - but always mesmerizing. Sonically, you feel like you sink into it as if you were in Zep’s personal opium den and experiencing their lives. And it’s also extremely varied. And like you said, crazy sexy. One of rock’s greatest masterpieces.

George Michael agreed with your point about the carnal nature of Led Zep music. He said they were his favourite because :"they sounded like they knew how to have sex...all the other white rock bands sounded sexually frustrated!" I love how 'Kashmir' crashes in like a Tyrannosaurus Rex landing on a roof. Loved your Neil Young vid, BTW...'Homegrown' had slipped under my radar...through your review I checked it out. I love the grungy groove of 'Vacancy' & the ghostly whisper of 'Little Wing'...

Thanks for watching as always. That's a great quote from George Michael (and his music was likewise carnal, so he should know). So glad I got you to check out Neil Young's Homegrown: such an amazing album!

Great album. I always thought the Stone Roses album Second Coming took a lot of influence from this record. Certain tracks like Love Spreads, Breaking into Heaven and Tears just ooze Zep to my ears.

I only have the first Stone Roses album. I'll have to check out Second Coming. John Lydon has also cited Physical Graffiti as the primary sonic influence on PIL's Album (which you can totally hear). When they toured for the album the band even played "Kashmir" at the start of the shows.

@@EdwinCannistraci awesome I will check that out again as I hadn’t actually noticed. Just been googling about Stone Roses and Zep. Turns out John Squire was listening to Zep as they were writing that record and I also found that Jimmy Page was at a secret gig they did circa 2013 as he’s a fan of them.

This IS my Fave album by the Zeppsters! Their last True GREAT album, before they went down like a Led Balloon, which they did, and I am glad that they Never reserected the band as it ended perfectly as far as the music, with even CODA.. I Love All of their albums, except ITTOD. ITTOD sounded like a dieing cry of a bird about to die as it Did! This is another band who these whiney Metalheads who do not like music dissed.. Which really pisses me off! Led Zepplin Had to work Hard for their music, without modern computer technology! Page could play circles around the Mr. "I am a Guitar Player" commentator!, On your Black Sabbath episode! All Good Great bands of the early days Had to WORK Hard at their music!, Which made Alot of them Virtuosos. The kids now, who play music, have things so Easy with their tech and computers, which could be said of most industries and skills really! AI is going to take over Everything, unless we keep up our Humanity and keep making Oganic things like music & Mom & Pop places making clothing, Etc, as long as people can still afford doing Entrprenorship! TY for reading my RANT! 🙂 Great review BTW! ;-)

@@EdwinCannistraci Everybody hates on 'Revolution 9'...I don't mind it at all. I certainly don't play it THAT often but it is like a Hieronymus Bosch -style anxiety dream which gives way to the soothing, Disneyesque schmaltz conclusion of 'Good Night'. A real relief...the same way Dickens really puts us the the emotional mincer before giving us a little comic levity...Love the sequencing of 'The White Album'. 'Rocky Racoon' is the real stinker...along with '...Bungalow Bill & 'Wild Honey Pie'...to think, they could have put 'Lady Madonna' , 'Hey Bulldog' or, 'Hey Jude' in place of those three duds...So much talent...so much options...we can say that about any Beatles record. What they left off is as great as anything included...especially 'Sgt. Pepper...'

@@philiphalpenny9761 The Beatles had this "no singles on album" rule throughout their career (at least until Abbey Road). They viewed singles and albums as separate things. I've grown to appreciate Revolution 9/Good Night as the closer of The White Album since making this video (which was originally part of a ranking video I did a year and half ago). In my next video I plan to address my change of opinion regarding "Revolution 9" and a few other things I've stated in past videos...!!

@@EdwinCannistraci Yes...that's another reason we love The Beatles. They always had more quality than the market demanded. None of this taking four or five years off between albums. Look forward to all your new videos for your refreshingly independent take on these classic rock discographies...
