That solo sux compared to the studio version solo. It’s like he isn’t as good as his younger self. That wasn’t a very ‘clean’ solo. I’ve heard Jimmy say in an interview before that there is a song they didn’t play live because he made the solo so hard to play that he can’t get it right every time. Can’t for the life of me remember which song he said it was.

@@frankiek2269 I absolutely disagree. THIS version of the solo is by far my favorite. And I say this as someone who learned to love the song with the studio version and was biased in its favor at first. The fact that a good percentage of this is live stage improvisation that follows only vaguely the track of the original song makes it only even MORE impressive.

8:29 "I think the drums literally change the whole vibe of the song." The drummer, John Henry Bonham is arguably (and certainly in my opinion) the greatest drummer who ever lived. AND in one of the greatest bands of all time, in their signature tune, he doesn't play a beat for the first six and a half minutes. THAT right there is the GENIUS of Led Zeppelin.
@allanperry65072 жыл бұрын
Love me some John Bonham as a top 5 drummer . As a full on percussionist Neil Peart of Rush was in a class all his own. Your favorite drummers favorite drummer. 🤘RUSH 🤘 Canada 🇨🇦 number 1 in the world 🌎 😁.
@arturnienartowicz72132 жыл бұрын
:) He's not. But he is definitely one of the most influential (along with Paice and Moon forced me to be a drummer) and unique drummers, one whose style is recognizable and rather universally liked (though Buddy Rich didn't think of him much). There are stories how he would fight with Plant or Page over playing a tune live, because he couldn't get it really right live and was too stressed to play (maybe one of the reasons he abused so much) - that doesn't really make him the greates drummer. Especially not who ever lived. But as I say - unique, infulential, liked, recognizable, imaginative, sensitive, with a great feel for what would sound best for a piece - sure. Amazing listen. And a favorite. But not a greatest (that is not saying he was bad any). It is nice that many people think what you think about him, he deserves praises and being rememebered as a force in rock.

Hi dear. Your other commenter is right; on 'this' particular song, you need to hear the studio version. And this goes for much of what was done 'live' in New York, from Zep. For a young person to not hear the studio original is damned-near criminal. You should watch the Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin. Heart performs 'Stairway to Heaven' in honor, and they have John Bonham's son performing on the drums, with Heart. John Bonham was, of course Zep's drummer, and one of the best and most-loved drummers on earth. Thanks for posting your reactions. When you played 'Urgent', by Foreigner, you LOVED IT so much that you actually passed your 'genuine' happy vibes energy on to us all. THANKS !!! That is the true mark of music's timeless power.
