The drums in this were recorded in a stairwell with microphones at different levels, then ran through a suppression device. If you're into Hip Hop there's a video of how this influenced Hip Hop and it became a very popular, and has been sampled a bunch. Fun fact: Jimmy Page played guitar on a P Diddy track.

When the Levee Breaks" is a country blues song written and first recorded by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy in 1929. Zeppelin amps it up.

Jimmie Page (guitar) wrote most of the music, while Robert Plant (vocals) wrote most of the lyrics, although John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards) and John Bonham (drums) were also credited as songwriters. Their music's inspiration was the blues, especially the electric blues of Muddy Waters and Skip James, along with the country blues of Howlin' Wolf. The band was also influenced by British, Celtic and American folk music.

Written in 1929 by Memphis Minnie. It refers to the great Mississippi river flood of 1927. Led Zeppelin's catalog is littered with old delta blues songs.
