I can relate. Ma boi Greninja's edgeguarding tools are so good I just can't resist going in and firing a random special to either push them too far to recover with Up-B or Neutral-B or just blow them to smithereens on the spot with Side-B and Down-B.

@Hawking Chair And when you main someone like Falco, Cp. Falcon, Mario, or mai boi Greninja, going for the spike (or semi spike, your preference) is beyond mandatory in our eyes. When there is someone offstage, we get an inexorable killer instinct. We just KNOW how and when to time it to intercept their recovery, and send them to the pits of hell.

Fantastic video! I like how you brought up Zero and Mr. R, they are great examples of people who were masters at the ledge in smash 4. And you brought up a good point with the timing, opponents often don't mix up their timing at all, and if you can catch on to that you will have a much easier time!

Something I do often with Lucina is running towards the ledge and baiting a roll (or attack, but mostly rolls). Before they actually start the animation I step back and charge F-smash. Works wonders on people who are stressed. Also, because her f-smash hits behind the ledge, I sometimes just stay still and move moments before the invincibility wares off and strike.

A thing to note is that there are certain moves that cover getups better than others a little thing i like to do as little mac is to start charging neutral-b at the ledge when the opponent grabs it it can cover: •Get-up attack:almost all of them do less than 8%,so mac can just armor through most of them and hit •get-up roll:little mac can just reverse neutral-b And catch it even if you didn’t expect it •jump get up:Little mac can easily catch ledge jump by shield-cancelling neutral-b then immediately using up-b Oos since it has so much vertical range and is so fast(frame 3) •Ledge stall: he can shield-cancel neutral-b into down-smash once invincibility ends •Neutral get-up:he can shield-cancel neutral-b into down-tilt>aerial side-b or f-tilt since both are safe And sometimes he can cover ledge falling if the oponent doesn’t have any move that passes through macs armor; Also,all of these kill :)

As a Shulk main, speed mode does wonders.You can stay at roll distance, and use Fair/Nair to catch neutral get-up,attack, and jump to an extant.One can also possibly get in a grab instead.
@somebodylikesbacon1960
@somebodylikesbacon1960 5 жыл бұрын
If you stand right next to the ledge as piranha plant you can hold a spike ball and getup attack will drop the ball, jump will jump into it, and you can throw it to center stage on roll. Covers a lot of options.
@bagel4943

I generally find that I am usually unpunished by getup attacking at people who hang out closer to the ledge, neutral getup in those "He’s gonna roll!" moments, and rolling in those "He’s gonna neutral getup!" moments. I have still gone unpunished.

Super helpful video dude! I can totally relate when it comes to the timing of your get-up options. When I take a bit more time than usual sometimes it completely turns the stock again and I end up getting control of the match again. I also need to shield more on the ledge it seems as I am often what you'd call a "sitting duck" haha. Looking forward to the shield pressure video for sure. :)

As ike or some Mii swordfighters, you can charge sideB a little bit away, just far enough that it catches roll, and it will also catch neutral and attack, sometimes drop, and if you're smart enough, jump. this also baits roll often.

My favorite is an offstage Shadow Sneak. Stand on the ledge, jump offstage and charge a Side-B. It won't matter what you do, you WILL get hit if the Greninja times it right, assuming he didn't just catch you with any of his godlike edgeguarding specials and aerials before you even got to the ledge.
@rylanmarkowsky3390
@rylanmarkowsky3390 5 жыл бұрын
I got this from Izaw smash but another safe getup option is to drop away from the stage, jump back on and land with an aerial. This won’t always work but it’s good for mix ups and safe most of the time for low-mid level play.

When ledge trapping, I might dashdance around the general vicinity of the ledge and wait for them to try an option. If they do a regular getup or a roll, dash attack or dash grab can usually punish. If they jump, a shorthop Nair or Fair might get them. Usually I'll just jump offstage and try to gimp them tho.

tbf it's used the least because it should be. Of course, that makes it less expected, but not much better an option since it can be covered on reaction alongside something actually expected in a lot of situations (holding shield as well as dash back to cover roll or an aggressive drop-off option, to name some big ones).

iLoveBac0n Great tips as a bowser pickpocket but one thing i want to criticize is that his fire breath has a lot of lag afterwards. It isnt worth it because opponents still have invicible frames when they get to the ledge. It leaves you wide open for a get up attack but its great for pressure if their Up b isnt instant (i.e. Lucina and marth’s up b, palutena)

Hey hopefully you reply to this. A nice redditor referred you to me. My question is that there are a lot of players who apply ledge pressure by doing all sorts of different timed jumps and double jumps along with short hops, in hopes to catch you with a bair or fair. It happens to me every single time and I don’t know how they’re nailing me every time. I try mixing my recovery. I try mixing the timings of my recovery. But at times I feel like ledge drop, and any and all of my recovery options, I’m just toast. I don’t see many pro higher level players do it. It’s mainly on public arena in glorious level lobbies. I never see it talked about or taught anywhere. They constantly do this and I want to learn it, because I’m positive this is the next step in order to improve and raise my skill level. They do a little jump, double jump and weave left to right in the air, and wait for that perfect moment to hit to me. They’re in the air, while I attack from ledge. They fair me as soon as I jump from ledge. They back air me if I neutral get up. Roll literally is asking to take your stock. And get up shield just isn’t good enough. Their jumps are too sporadic and so much pressure. Unless I completely suck, maybe I’m missing something important here.

teddy thodo try and time their jumps, what you want to do is either time an aerial from holding away then jumping back to catch them before the peak of their jump as they won't be able to fastfall to get their aerial to hit and any aerial they do throw out will be weak and have low priority, if this doesn't work mix up ledge jumps by cancelling a ledge jump with a waveland(airdodge onto the stage asap) then punish by forcing an unsafe option on shield and responding with an oos usually a nair or your fastest oos option

I feel like I'm dum for bringing this up but do you think you could do a video on how to play on Battlefield stages? For some reason the platforms keep screwing me up

Practice movement and falling through platforms so you can land your attacks if someone is below a platform. And practice abusing the platforms when you are juggling.

It really do be like that sometimes. A few months ago, when I wasn't even very good at smash, I didn't know how to kill, so I just juggled until an up air or throw happened to kill.

About the Rolling thing: Yes there is Science to back this up. Vermanubis talked about this in his video about reacting.

I don't play Greninja but I've watched quite a bit so I'll speculate OoS options on reaction from ledge: (not an ideal position) Neutral: Grab, possibly DTilt. Roll: Grab, DTilt, Dash. (NB remember what Banana said about rolling) Jump: Nair, Uair, USmash, UpB if you like cheese Attack: Grab, DTilt, maybe even UTilt or a raw smash if you're fast enough or parry and they're slow enough DDJ (drop, double jump): Ftilt, Fair, parry into Utilt/Usmash/an aerial or run to catch their landing and grab/dtilt Hang: IDK, perhaps Dtilt will catch them. OoS options from between ledge and roll spot: (much better position) Neutral: Grab, Dtilt, Ftilt is probably too slow. Honestly not a whole lot Greninja can do. Roll: Grab, Dtilt, buffered Nair/Bair maybe Jump: Any aerial, USmash, UB if you like cheese Attack: see above DDJ: see above Hang: see above Option Selects, Baits, and More: -From ledge, FT backwards then charge pivot DSmash to cover neutral, roll, and maybe attack if you're spaced properly and they do not have a disjoint. -TH will probably bait a ground option instantly. -BFHFF aerial can cover jump but will be pretty late to other options except slow attacks. -Run off Bair can cover anything but roll if you time it right. -I don't know intimately how WS works, but if you IR to any option and you're spaced properly a FC might hit them except probably roll. Sorry i couldn't be of more help. Definitely check out some top level players who know what they're doing. Greninja players in the comments feel free to correct me.
