Hey Paul, thanks for watching. I know this podcast is a bit long but I’m pretty sure somewhere in here Charles is talking about the limited space they’re working with. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX3HgIKqmJ2NhpYsi=xAIR60lHKckLa1Zz It’s sort of like early computer programming when they had a very limited amount of space and had to sort of cram all the code in. In this case, Charles was talking about the fact that they’re the only company that has a programmable smart card. The little chip in your ATM card is static. But Ledger is using pretty much the same thing and actually not only embedding code into it, but able to change that code and update it through firmware updates. So I’m not really sure why they’re limited to that coding space and why they can’t use a bigger one or whatever, but that’s why the app space is limited. (the Stax and flex have less app storage than the Nanos because they need extra code space to drive the screen) I wouldn’t really call that a dealbreaker for me because it’s still holds quite a few different apps. You have to be pretty Hard-core to fill up all the app space. Most people are only using three or four different crypto apps. Also, although it’s expensive, the device is designed to be used with other Stax devices. So in other words, you could spread your assets across multiple Stax devices. (I know I got a little off-topic here because we’re talking about the flex in this video.)

​​​@@CarlosWillis don't use Ellipal wallet they are a scam wallet it doesn't make you scan and sign transactions using the actual hardware wallet like Ngrave does, u just put in the password and send off thats a flaw and defeats the purpose of a physical cold wallet... lucky that it did it that way because my screen ended up with a permanent warning symbol that wouldn't even let me login and it was my second Ellipal to malfunction just a heads up...

I have a nano X, now I use the same recovery phrases to set for my Flex, but when I go to ledger live, it seems like these two devices are seperate devices. Can you make video show us how to synchronize the nano x and the flex.

If you have recovered using the seed phrase of your ledger Nano X, the two devices should be interchangeable. Are you sure that you use the correct seed phrase?

You can see the apps that you're using. But if you want to check balances, you use ledger live for that.

I prefer the ledger Stax for several reasons, but it may not be right for everyone. The Ledger Flex is basically a scaled down version of the ledger Stax. But there was no compromise at all on the security. Both devices have the same security protocols. The Ledger Flex just has a smaller screen and lacks wireless charging capabilities. This allows it to come in at a lower price point.

Makes sense. Same security. Lower price. But you have to remember, most of the people in the ledger Reddit are current ledger users. The better interface is designed to make it easier to onboard the next generation of crypto users.

What is the Mb storage space? How many apps Can you have on device

That megabyte of storage is used for the various crypto apps that you need to manage different cryptos. Each app is of different size, so the total amount varies depending on which apps you're using. I would say realistically around 10 to 20 apps total. But that's just an estimate. Most people really don't need that many apps on their device. The average user uses 5 or 6

Very interesting price point $150 less than Stax and has grey scale screen instead of color. Any other differences that I am not seeing ? If not that creates a whole new question ....

@@jdo2574 well the Ledger Stax is not color. They are both E-ink technology. Basically the flex uses a flat E-ink display whereas the ledger Stax has a curved screen that can display device name from the side. Also, the Ledger flex does not have wireless charging capability. basically they just scaled down the Stax so they can sell it at a cheaper price.

It is a superior device. however, having said that, Ledger took the secure screen technology and basically just flattened it and utilized it in a slightly smaller device at a better price point without compromising security any way

You can import the seed phrase of your Nano Plus and the ledger flex would become a mirror device. They could be used interchangeably. you would probably want to start using the flex as your go to device and hold on to the legend Nano S plus as your backup. In answer to your question, nothing would happen to the Nano S plus. It would continue to function as it does now. You're simply creating a copy of it on the Flex.

I don't know this for a fact, but my guess is that the technology that goes into creating the curved screen on the ledger Stax is much more expensive and labor intensive to produce. These curved screens also probably have a high percentage of failure during the manufacturer process and have to be discarded. With the Flex, they have taken that same E-ink technology and used it in a flat screen which I'm assuming is much easier to produce with far less as many failures. This is probably why they can afford to sell the Flex so much cheaper.

Well, it's unfortunate that they're constrained to that secure element chip. It seems odd in this day and age of practically unlimited storage. But I don't think they're lying. I think it just comes down to a question of cost effectiveness. To do a complete redesign and overhaul would probably cost them a lot more than it's worth. It harkens back to the programming that people were doing back in the 70s and 80s. It is kind of strange.

Let's say you buy a Ledger Stax or Flex and down the road you break it or lose it, can you use the seed phrase from the Stax or Flex on ANY ledger device to recover your stuff? Or would you have to replace it with ONLY the device your original seed phrase was created from? Thanks in advance!

As far as the 24 word seed phrase goes, all ledgers are interchangeable. You can restore any seed phrase created by a ledger device to any other ledger device seamlessly. Incidentally 24 words seed phrases are industry standards, but it’s not always a seamless transition when you go from one hardware wallet manufacturer to another. But when you’re dealing with Ledger to Ledger, you’re golden!
