He was given a million quid to record and album of skiffle tunes over a period of 3 years..I d say he was taken pretty serious. ..apart from timeless melody there she goes and looking glass ..theres nothing unique about it.On top of that he has a cult following of people who don't know any better and believe everything they hear.

I know this is coming kinda late and that Lee's mostly retired, but the method of "oneness for humanity" that he was aiming for is a chakra/Kundalini thing. His songs seem to vibe people's chakras, balancing them as one passively listens. That's the reason he spent so long searching for the right tuning. 432hz, also known as Pythagorean or Fibonacci tuning, is one of those tunings; 528hz is another. The best advice I can give on this score is to try to "listen with your spine" to every version of each song. The proof'll be in the pudding if I'm right. Also, the other big reason he let the La's crash is because of his sense of honor--it was Mike Badger's band (the dream he had on Carl Davies' couch in the early 1980s), Lee coveted the name because it's his own ("Lee Anthony Mavers", [L]ee [A]nthony, same initials as the La's themselves)--and that's part of what "All By Myself" is about lyrically. He wouldn't allow himself to profit off the band apart from some of the singles because it's still technically Mike's band's name. is this true? Does it make sense? And if so, does Lee want this known? I'm not sure, but I love him all the more for this idea.
@jcalz2163 жыл бұрын
@Caverman Never done acid, though I have taken cannabis edibles plenty of times. Don't deride it, as psychedelics make one's body more resonant with itself; we "ring" more vibrantly when we take them. Doesn't mean you want to take them constantly. All I'm saying is Lee's music seems to make a more technical sense when your subtle body matches his songs' vibe. Take "Over" for example; the three chakras I get the sense it vibes are the solar plexus, the heart, and the throat, with the energy flowing both up into space and down toward the planet's core. All three at once, that flow constant all our lives; music is like meditation that way, in that it harnesses the best of all possible worlds in a multidimensional sense. "Timeless Melody" and "Callin' All" do something similar, the former vibing the the top three chakras--crown, third eye, and throat--while the latter does the same with the bottom three--root, sacral, solar plexus. You'll also want to think in terms of how electrical circuits need to be grounded, which is what "Doledrum" does, pushing the energy down same way "Way Out" raises it up. And don't even get me started on how "Ride Yer Camel" and "The Way We Came" do all seven all at once, the aforementioned Kundalini or Hara or Prana Tube channels in our spines being the focus. "Son of a Gun" and "Failure" do this with what's called Microcosmic Orbit, circulating the energy up your spine and down your front, cycling; "Son of a Gun" does it a LOT slower than "Failure" does, though. Just to clarify, I learned not merely by listening but also by singing-along and matching pitch with Lee. Got the resonance to match. Same as in Macefield's book when "Mr. X" speaks of Lee's belief that when four people tap into the Source of All Creation or something, a real-life Force like in Star Wars, some of that Oneness is easier to discern, and the band-members can "harvest" the energy and channel it into the guise of a song. You CAN achieve the same effect as just one guy singing-along. Sort of. Sounds weird initially, but while listening to songs, don't we become their instruments rather than the other way 'round? Aren't our bodies and minds instead played by them? ;)
@jcalz2163 жыл бұрын
@Caverman Also, if it helps, the newer songs become easier to "hear" as full-band performances because of that Oneness and how it seems to work. For instance, "Robberman" seems to be a mix of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and the Television song "Friction." It's slowed-down on the Kitchen tape as Lee even said, but when you speed it up--in your mind--and add other instruments, the form sounds a lot like those two merged together. I'd posit that Lee hasn't released the newer songs expressly BECAUSE he wants people to think this way and make their own songs. To reference Macefield's book again, one of the footnotes comes to mind, and how Mavers was always adamantly against sharing songwriting credits, saying "No, you should learn to become bitter, then you can write your own songs." Same idea, basically, as with how/why he withholds the release we'd all like so much. Last but not least, Michael Head's music has a similar quality to it, the chakra-vibing thing, especially the Strands' stuff. And if you really want to FEEL what I'm talking to, just listen to music that's been retuned to 432hz so you feel what Lee's been talking about for years. Maybe all music does it and concert pitch currently being 440hz is the problem...
@jcalz2163 жыл бұрын
@Caverman Agreed on just about every point. The word "heyoka" comes to mind, too. "Starseed" as well. The 2011 Daniel Rachel interview mentioned Cymatics briefly, and that's part of what triggered my initial interest in all this spiritual stuff. Other musicians I've heard who vibe in the multidimensional manner we're dishing on include Gene Clark, Lotti Golden, Gary Higgins, and the La's own biggest influence, Captain Beefheart. Speaking of whom, if you've never listened to "Low Yo Yo Stuff" on Clear Spot, it has a rhythm-section that sounds almost the same as "Son of a Gun." Thanks for understanding! :)
@jcalz2163 жыл бұрын
@Caverman P.S.: Just as John Powers named his band Cast, in part, because of the "Looking Glass" line "The change is cast," so too did Mike Badger name his band the Onset, also in part, because of the "Failure" line "In the grip on an onset." Another theory, not quite as groundbreaking as the sort-of-spiritual stuff above, but well-worth mentioning.

In all seriousness, his funeral. That he doesn’t take care of his physical health is obvious. That is a horribly accurate predictor of not making old bones. Also, and I’ve no idea, but some have said he’s rarely been a truly happy man. That’s so corrosive of vitality. Ranging from resentfulness to depression, such are very unhelpful in relation to longevity. Speaking as a 61 yo former smoker (quit at 43, having smoked 25y) the impact of continuing smoking really cranks up by your fifties. I was pretty miserable for so many years that I’d not wish it on anyone. I hope Lee is able to find meaning in his life. Without meaning, it’s extraordinarily difficult to line up those things which must be aligned, for a good life (as judged by the person living it), Lee Mavers has injected beauty & pleasure into the lives of countless millions worldwide. I hope he’s aware just how much love there is out there for him.

Just my take as a serious la's enthusiast. Lee is never gonna release any more songs, time to stop hoping, he'll probably ask to be buried with his box of tapes. so I think a lee voice double needs to be found, (tall order) and a talented cover band and just make full band arrangements and studio quality recordings of all the second album songs and rarities. Would have to be charitable people that don't mind giving proceeds to Lee. It might be our only hope.
