I appreciate this mans intelligence, he is very thorough in his investigation. To change from a staunch unbeliever, to a person who has looked at all reasons to disprove this case, then becomes a believer, well said. FACTS ARE FACTS, no matter if you believe or not.
@ianyboo10 жыл бұрын
If only he had presented facts, then we might get somewhere. He's using the stories in the bible as evidence for... the stories in the bible. It's so obviously circular that it's hard to even comment on without sounding condescending. An empty tomb? Yes we get that the story says the tomb was empty... so what? In the Harry Potter books there were many eye witnesses to the Dark Mark being in the sky during the attack on after the Quiddich tournament game. Does that mean it actually happened? Of course not... It's a story... in a book... Lee is having trouble separating fact from fiction.

Jessica Rodriguez do you think Satan has free will?
@ianyboo7 жыл бұрын
Jessica Rodriguez okay then obviously your god can reveal himself to someone without that individual losing their free will. Which brings me back to the original question, why doesn't your god himself to everyone?
@ianyboo7 жыл бұрын
Jessica Rodriguez let me explain a bit more. Let's assume for a moment that your god is real and wants people to know he is real. The best way to do that would be to introduce himself to people on an individual level. You said that he can't do that because it would take away our free will, but that can't be true since you also think that Satan has free will even after your god revealed himself to Satan. Satan was still free to disagree and rebel against your god even though Satan was 100% certain that your god was real. So... Why are we not all 100% certain that your god is real? He could appear to me this instant and clear up the confusion about his existence if he was real. If he's not real then it would make perfect sense why he does not appear to me.
@ianyboo7 жыл бұрын
Jessica Rodriguez so Satan gave his heart and life to god without question and only then god revealed himself to Satan?

The thing that I like about Lee, is his honesty, if a person can begin, with honesty that is the perfect starting point, if you are honest in your seeking and honest with yourself you will find, simply. If you hold on to what your professor told you or your father, then you will not find. Try very hard to go in without bias, it is hard, but try. If you can great but try and you will find the truth. The God of monotheism is clearly an atheist highlighted by the the 10 simple rules which just so happens to declare Jesus as a heretic at number 2. (You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it. -there is no exclusion there) Nobody even went by that name, this is the first crumbling of your truth. Yeshua Ben Pantera was a priest born out of wedlock because his mother fell in love with the a roman solider named Tiberius Julius Abdes Pantera of Sidon, Pheonicia. Later sent to nowadays Germany for the remainder of his years. Bottom line Yeshua was a jew, so upon request with the jews to explain themselves, it turns out they dont even title him as a messiah/prophet because they had Malachi, promoting peaceful outcomes while Yeshua basically promoted war to end all wars in the form of an apocalypse. The end game goal or grand design plan of jesus is the apocalypse, ya may aswell just call for a nuclear holocaust while bowing and worshipping from your idol, at which you were warned directly! by your figurehead during the first encounter with suchness. The house of christos is the most degenerate house in all of judea, the funniest thing about it all, nobody needs a high I.Q to see that disastrous functional value. As for secrets and truth; you cannot hide anything from society, eventually someone will always see past your Clark Kent glasses. Whats more troubling about the myth, the fact that jesus never asked you if it was ok for him to die for your fathers sins, or thats ok to turn your world upsidedown through a colossal war seeing billions dead. I gotta say, these arnt the actions of greatness, godliness or efforts toward self progression for the current collective. But like i said, directly from the source; You shall have no other Gods but me.You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it. Bye bye jesus, hello atheist God. As far as i can tell, Jesus claimed he was a God, failed the test, at which point his friends tried to cover up the failure utilizing pure unadulterated metaphysics stolen from Platonism. (propaganda) But hey.. what do i know, im just sad atheist, full of pride, unable to humbly surrender probably due to my Spartan knees. Still better than trusting a 2000 year old story of 2nd comings and hammurabi code laws bastardized into batshit fuckery as it sits in direct conflict with the first encounter through such contact, amid the doom of the end of the world. Indians walk across sand-bars all the time, an aryan-phoenician does it for the fist time and somehow thats a miracle? Dont waste my time.

I know Christians are STUPID so here it is Again! Genesis 6:2, 6:4, Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7 Daniel 3:25 None of whom are Jesus! *"What do you not understand?"* That would be your inability to *READ* is what I don't understand. For Fucks Sake Moron Exodus 12:1 - 14 *THE PASSOVER* was Never about Sin or Forgiveness! It was about the God *NOT MURDERING BABIES!* Seriously, Think of how our society would be if the Christian ideas were made into how our courts worked! Someone go to court for Murder, Rape, Child Molesting, etc all they'd have to say is *I Believe Jesus Died for Me!* Then the Judge say *OK YOU ARE FREE TO GO!* What would that do to our society? I've read some of the comments of people that seem upset about or maybe just have questions about his tactics. I thought I'd write down a few of my observations from the presentation to maybe help out. I know it's not sitting well with some that he used the Bible. I think it's important to remember that he mentioned in the beginning of the video that he felt compelled to use the Bible as historical documents, NOT as inspired by God, because he did not believe it to be the word of God. He was then able to find other evidence outside of the Bible that backed up the claims the Bible made, including the existence of Jesus. He said that is an indisputable fact across the scholarly field (and then he gave sources to back it up, not just ancient sources.) He also used modern day techniques in his research, not to prove anything but to actually disprove; such as the psychiatrist who explained hallucinations. He did not mention if the doctor was Christian or not, so we cannot assume bias; only that the doctor helped point out some facts. Also I think it's important to point out that he wasn't a Christian until after he sat down to analyze and assess the information he gathered until the very end. He still claimed to be Atheist up until the point he laid out the evidence and summarized it. Just a few things to keep in mind while sifting through what he said.

It is a message from outside space-time and therefore objective. I understand you are accusing him of circular reasoning, which is rich coming from the atheist camp, who've been trying to convince us for years that something came from nothing. Wow! I have a question for all the non-believers and atheist leaving comments about this video. If you are so convinced that Jesus isn't real....why are you all on KZbin watching these videos in the first place? Pro. 1:21 - How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Don't you understand....there is NO absolute PROOF. God requires believers to have faith. And once this faith is evident to the Him, then HE gives you all the proof you will ever need. It's indescribably awesome!!!!!!
@ExtantFrodo28 жыл бұрын
*"God requires believers to have faith."* Why? Is he stupid and wants to surround himself with people that are even more stupid? Faith is pretending to know what you in fact do not know. How is that not stupid? *"once this faith is evident to the Him,..."* In other words once you have committed this auto-lobotomy you'll feel blissful all over?

One of the interesting things in the comments, and common across most of them, is that quite simply, people don't want to believe. Nothing else to explain. For anyone generally interested and willing to listen to the empirical evidence, they will quickly realize (as so many brilliant minds in the past) how it's all true. For the rest, you simply don't want to believe. And for that God withholds the gift of salvation from you and gives you over to whatever you want to believe. Actually I'd like to be even more specific. Jesus said "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day." If you don't know Christ personally, it's He hasn't drawn you. Personally that would scare the living crap out of me if I knew that God wasn't having anything to do with me because my heart was hardened.

God is trying to show you hey I got it I died so that you may have this cure take it or you shall surely perish because of your sin. See We throw ourselves in hell when we decide not to take that cure because that is our death and heaven is our life. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only begotten son(Jesus dying so that his blood could be the cure) that whoever believes in him(whoever takes this cure doesn't matter what you've done in the past) shall not perish(shall not die) but have eternal life .(heaven or will live forever without the taint of sin)

For me, it took awhile to understand I am loved so much, that the undeserved, unmerited grace makes, faith takes, was exactly why we named our daughter 'Grace' nearly three decades back. To understand that my spirit is perfect, my soul can be renewed daily, as I became a new creature as a born again. All provisions have made readily available. Jesus took the nails, and imagine his body took on every sin, disease,....I mean, wow! "I and the Father are one." "It is Finished" reminds me "All Things Are Possible" because of the resurrection of God made man to Die and rose for us. Lastly, what if? What if this was all true? What if? Are you willing to maintain your self righteous ways? Or, learn about the righteousness of God. Love covers all. Today I am called to be dripping with love. What an honor to be on that path that was laid out 2000 years ago. Let's Go! 2018 is all about influence to destination. Good night and best of many years to arrive you blessed, healthy, renewed and prosperous by his unmerited, undeserved grace grace.

Good interpretation, Lee... Gerd Lüdemann (born 5 July 1946 in Visselhövede, Lower Saxony), is a German New Testament scholar. He taught this subject from 1983 to 1999 at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Göttingen. Since 1999 he has taught there with a special status as Chair of History and Literature of Early Christianity. He is married with four children and seven grandchildren. After periods of teaching and research at McMaster University (1977-79) and Vanderbilt University (1979-82), he was appointed in 1983 to the Chair in New Testament Studies in the Theological Faculty of the University of Göttingen. Following a series of historically critical publications culminating in the publication of his book Der große Betrug: Und was Jesus wirklich sagte und tat (The Great Deception: And What Jesus Really Said and Did) in 1999, in which he argued that only about five per cent of the sayings attributed to Jesus are genuine and the historical evidence does not support the claims of traditional Christianity, the Confederation of Protestant Churches in Lower Saxony called for his dismissal from the Chair of New Testament Studies. Lüdemann stated that his studies convinced him that his previous Christian faith, based as it was on Biblical Studies, had become impossible: 'the person of Jesus himself becomes insufficient as a foundation of faith once most of the New Testament statements about him have proved to be later interpretations by the community'.[1]

The simple fact remains that freewill is yours. You choose what you want to believe or not believe. Based upon my beliefs....notice I said "my" because this is just my point of view.... I look at it this way for those who want to argue and say that if God doesn't change someone's mind then he has predetermined you are doomed. How I see it is that he gives us freewill to choose. He knows our beginning and our end. Everything else in the middle is decided by us because of freewill. I look at him as our father. A parent is suppose to love and guide their child. They teach them and then let them go into the world. A parent isn't responsible for what their grown child does. Their child chooses to do what he or she wants. Its just like us we make our decisions. We don't have to agree. That is the beauty of freedom.
@Kestrel19719 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Benton No, you do not choose what you want to believe or not believe, AT ALL. Belief/acceptance of a claim is an intellectual test of validity based on a standard of evidence. I just got done reading his book, which might I say is not a book for atheists but on the fence Christians who may be having doubts. If you take his word without doing the slightest bit of investigation, then I'm sure you will find his arguments compelling. "As an atheist, there was no accountability." 2:30 - Paints a nice picture of how atheists are. Drunk, abusive, empty. There is so much wrong with this I can't even begin to comment on this. "Is Christianity true... all you have to do is answer is did Jesus return from the dead." - 7:10 - It would be if the claim could be investigated. It's a claim that hasn't met it's burden of proof. No more than any of the other biblical miracles. "... I have to accept the bible as historical documents." 9:20 - The bible isn't the evidence, it's the claim. "Evidence list : 10:50 - Josephus was written after the Gospels. Not an account. Tacitus was written 116 AD, 70 years after the supposed resurrection. The Passing of Peregrinus, written by Lucian was a satire written in 165 AD, how is this even remotely considered evidence? Mara bar Serapion and his letter is a mention of how the wise are punished unjustly and is taken from a Christian perspective while using historical figures to demonstrate his point, this was written as late as the 3rd century and isn't historical in confirming the resurrection. The Talmud, now do we accept other contradictory religious texts as evidence? I could confirm the Egyptian God's using the Bible if that were the case. "Jesus death is indisputable..." - 11:30 Funny because historians are still arguing over if Jesus was an actual figure or not. "Legends..." 12:30 The gospels do a great job at confirming the accounts have the Hallmarks of Legend. The accounts Mark, Luke, John, Peter all were written much later after the events. As they are written, they grow in length as time gets longer. (You'd expect it to get shorter since memory gets worse.), the powers of Jesus grows as time+length goes. The Gosples don't match in details. "Road to Damascus." - How is this evidence? It's pulled straight from the bible. That's circular. "This was formed within months after the event." - 17:10, there is NO evidence of this. The earliest writings of the account were done 30 years after the purported event. This isn't "Historic Gold" it's cherry picked from a single historian which nobody else agrees with him. "... We have good historical records that the tomb was empty...." 18:35 - No citation, just claims it. "How can you account for a religion exploding without this actually happening?" - 19:20. You'd have to ignore the OTHER 21,000+ religions who also had an exploding of followers after false events that never happened. This is a joke. It's like if a Mormons said, "How else do you account for the boom of Mormons if Joseph Smith didn't read from the tablets?" "Embarrassment..." 19:50. Nearly every mythology has this, nearly every compelling story has this. This isn't compelling in the least but it's a good dissertation on narratives. "Enemies" - 22:20 Pulling from the bible, circular logic. At least Stroble is self-aware that there are more logical explanations like stealing a body if it existed. "They had no motive for lying..." - 24:00 Bullshit, martidum for false beliefs isn't a Christian exclusive theme. There is nothing more powerful than being an idol to a religion. "The best explanation is it really happened..." What a stretch. "Eye Witnesses.." 24:50 - We have 100,000 eye witnesses to Sathya Sai Baba performing miracles as a Hindu guru and yet nobody bats an eye. Eye witness testimony is NOTORIOUSLY unreliable. On top of that, the "Eye Witnesses" are from the bible. "4 Gosples" 28:00 - They are not reliable sources of "History" since they are the claim, not the evidence. On top of that, they are self-contradictory and filled with holes and lack continuity. The rest of the video is full of holes... I'll leave it here for now.

Pascal's Wager = It's better to make assumptions about god than risk eternal torture in his basement. But if it turns out that the one true god is one that hates people fraking their gift of reason & being gullible to a fault & wasting their one life on a toss up (Pascals wager), then you are so screwed... Homer Simpson's version of Pascal's wager "Don't pray to *any* god because if you're praying to the wrong god, then you're just pissin' off the real one." Pascals Wager, one of the most compelling reasons to avoid all gods. The frequency which is brought up among the faithful indicates more about the nature of god's relationship with man than all the bibles in the world. Why worship a god that keeps itself so distant that folks are reduced to the roll of a 10,000 sided die regarding their fate? Why is gullibility so cherished? Who could worship such a god?

That's just a "god of the gaps" fallacy. The correct answer to "How did we seemingly beat insurmountable odds against our own existence?" is not "God did it" it's "We don't know" and we might not ever know. But our ignorance does not give us licence to start dreaming up supernatural beings to explain away what we don't understand. We should just be honest and admit that we don't know. Jennifer Benton and my fellow Christian brothers and sisters I applaud your speaking up without reservation in regards to the undeniable truth about our Heavenly Father Yaweh and our Lord and personal savior Yeshua. However I would gently suggest perhaps that you do not waste your words on deaf ears. The aethist barring a life altering event, will NEVER Accept what is true because of one simple reason. They rely on their own limited thinking. They are not humble enough to put their prejudices to the side and accept the idea that in reality there is NOTHING complex at all in regards to the existence of GOD and Jesus. These individuals are merely a result of a society that demands that there has to be an intricate and complex series of evidences to support what to them is impossible. As Christians we go by Faith. A doubter or Atheist would never understand the simplicity of Faith because they have been conditioned to rely on their own limited intelligence, books, science and philosophy. Just from reading some of the comments being put forth by these people, mostly acerbic in nature if not sarcastic, it illustrates the sheer ignorance and willful denial of what should be fairly obvious to those who have eyes to truly SEE. The very fact that they cannot provide an answer themselves as to WHY they doubt the existence of GOD and JESUS nor provide evidence to support their claims, only underlines the futility of their arguments. Faith is a GIFT. Free will is a gift. GOD is a JUST GOD because if he were to force us to believe in him then we would merely be automotons. Robots. Then what would be the purpose of being? We are therefore free to CHOOSE to serve a JUST and gracious GOD or try going about our own way thinking we have all the answers. Judging by some of the comments put forth here by skeptics I would say going your own way only leads to MORE questions and endless theories that NEVER have a definitive answer. I will continue to let Faith which has thus far NEVER Failed to reward me with incredible life changing events Be the foundation of my peace and the guiding light in my life. Peace, Strength and blessings to everyone.

Actually wait a while and eventually he will but it will be to late then . One thing that scares me though what would happen if you saw a miracle happens with your own eyes and it was proven to be true and this man said he was God? Would you believe him? I really hope not. Cause the Bible talks about in the end times that will happen and he won't be God but the Antichrist and if your not careful and we are in those times(I don't believe we are yet) then you will for it thinking well that was something" I can see" . Also to your comment God doesn't work that way because then we wouldn't have a personal relationship with him. God wants to have a personal relationship with you not just a belief in him. He doesn't give a crap if you believe in Him I mean according to the Bible even Satin believes in God and Believes that Christ existed and knows the Bible backwards and forwards. I mean the Bible even says pretty much( In my own words )"good for you even the devil and his angels believe " see God wants a relationship not a religion. He doesn't want you to sing and pray and do everything right if you don't have a relationship with him all of that is useless and meaningless. You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. Only through Jesus we have eternal life ✝️🕊💞 Romans 5:8 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 2 Corinthians 5:21 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Romans 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Acts 2:38-39 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 14:6 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Romans 8:38-39 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Hebrews 4:12 KJV "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 13:16 "And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." These are the sacrifices that please God.

+Andrew Suzuki Well, Andrew, Lee does a great job explaining everything religion has to offer in terms of evidence. If a whole bunch of references to Jesus from people who were not alive to see his crucifixion is enough for you, great! But for me, all that proves is that people believed in the stories, not that Jesus ever lived. If a whole bunch of early responses is good enough for you, great! For me, I want legitimate sources, not early ones. The fact that these are so early makes them fishy. Lee doesn't provide any justification for why these sources are legitimate, he does a bit of "slight of hand" to imply that early = legitimate. He is wrong. If an empty tomb is somehow good enough for you, great! I don't know why that would be good enough for you though, because clearly, the mere existence of an empty tomb shouldn't be good enough for anybody. If people who said "The apostles are really sure of it" is good enough for you, great! For me, there are many people to this day who die for Allah, so if "They seem really sure" is evidence, then Islam is winning. We know Alexander the great existed for three main reasons. He had: References from others mentioning his name and acts. Archaeological evidences, such as busts or carvings. Evidences of historical impact. Things he did. Jesus only has one of those three, and he has the weakest of them. We have no idea what Jesus looked like. Jesus changed nothing on earth during his time here. We're missing 30 years of his life.

Being on the crossroads im always on the lookout for good apologetic material which present a rational and unbiased sense of theology. Sadly this was not the one, not even came close to presenting the case for christianity.Sad he misrepresented the non-believers to be immoral. He thought the opposite of christianity is drunkenness, sexual promescuity and pent up hatred towards god. This person needed help for his marriage. All these sources and historicity of jesus are not verifiable and all it takes is a few minutes from ur part to check it or if u wish one can take the same methodology and make a case for any religion. Why were the followers of Mohammed so willing to die for him even after his death and spread islam if not for miracles and belief that he was the messenger of allah. Does that make islam true? As for hallucination people still around the globe claim that jesus appeared to them (not kidding) and is like publising a book where i saw an alien spacecraft along with my 500 friends & relatives and based on the numbers i gotta believe. Only takeaway of this video was the creed and other extra sources which i gotta study more in my spare time and better go for CS Lewis.

CS Lewis is great. I recommend listening to Cold Case Christianity podcast by J Warner Wallace, as well as reading some of his books. The guy is a homicide detective who was an Atheist for 35 years before he started becoming convinced otherwise. His need for evidence is what drew me to him. It wasn't until he had been working on cases that had gone cold (exactly our situation) for 15 years that he started to change his mind. Also, he grew up in a Mormon household. He thought both Mormonism and Christianity were baseless beliefs for comfort. He talks about the day he became a Christian was the same day he became a not-Mormon, because the methods of investigation he used to, say, convict a murderer were the same methods he applied to Christianity and Mormonism.

If ever a book had the potential to make converts it would be this one. As a Christian, I used to study, not only with one or more bibles, but I'd have my biblical dictionary, an atlas of the holy lands, a biblical commentary, and a concordance. The one thing I never studied with, which I should have, in retrospect, was any sort of literature from the skeptics. I knew that the Christians were the "good guys" and any force trying to overthrow the good would by definition, have to be evil. Unfortunately, eternal punishment for finite crimes never seemed fair, so I wondered what the skeptics had to say about it. One book led to another, one subject to another, and pretty soon I discovered that the bible is not what it purports to be. Professor Emeritus William G. Dever (archaeologist) says: "I am not reading the Bible as Scripture… I am in fact not even a theist. My view all along-and especially in the recent books-is first that the biblical narratives are indeed 'stories,' often fictional and almost always propagandistic, but that here and there they contain some valid historical information." (Me again) The Bible is not inerrant, it is not "inspired" in the sense that God used a supernatural force to convey his message to the "prophets." I urge the student of biblical history to visit jesusneverexisted dot com, or kyroot dot com for more compelling evidence that the Bible isn't merely the Greatest Story Ever Told, but it is the greatest fraud to ever be foisted upon over two billion people. ~ May your studies lead you ever toward the truth, whatever that truth might be..
So... if you don't believe in the God of the Bible, you have no moral compass?

I'll leave it here for now

Critique of Lee Strobel: 1’00” Decided as a teenager that god does not and cannot exist. That is not a rational statement atheism. A rational statement would be that we do not know if God does or does not exists, but the evidence indicates that it is not very likely. I have little or no confidence that god does exist. If his atheism is not based on reason and relationally, than it was not more than a belief system to begin with. 1’30” Makes not even being interested in checking out the other side the equivalent of being a skeptic. No. As a teenager he was not only not rational, he was closed minded. This is typical of teenagers. He took this idea of skepticism into his professional career. 2’00” His “skepticism morphed into cynicism” - because his skepticism was not the healthy open minded type of skepticism, but the closed minded unhealthy type of skepticism. 2’30” His “logical” assumption is that without god there is no framework for morality. This is just not a factually true statement. He came to the “logical” conclusion to be a hedonist. This is not a logical conclusion. The conclusion does not necessarily stem from the premises. He is simply wrong on this point. He chose to be immoral and is blaming that on his atheism. The man cannot take responsibility for himself. 3’15” He is telling us about the failures of “hedonism” which really has nothing to do with atheism, even this those this man claims atheism as the cause. It was his own lack of moral fortitude that was the enabling factor. Atheism does not cause hedonism and his alcoholism. 5’00” Wife (who needs emotional and psychological support due to her alcoholic and abusive husband) becomes a Christian. I would hope her life would get better. This is no evidence of god or the truth of the doctrine. Just than a caring community can improve a life. But this man thinks it just might be a miracle? 6’45” Starts investigation. 7’20” Core claim: Did Jesus rise from the dead? 8’15” Reference to Paul post ressurection. The Bible is true because the Bible says that it is true is a circular argument. The Bible is not sufficient evidence to prove any claim made in the Bible. That is simply how logic works. This journalist is not using reason and logic here. 9’25” The New Testament is a mix of documents, many of them would not be considered to be “historical”. His generalization is misleading. 9’55” Start the 4 E’s First E: Execution. We he talks about no dispute he is seeking in hyperbole. There is no indisputable conclusions about the resurrection. All of the references are singular, indirect, distant in place and/or time. This is extremely weak evidence. 11:30 Simple “Appeal to Authority” to claims that something that is obviously being disputed is indisputable. Again, the man is not using classical reason and logic. 12’00” Second E: Early (reports) 12’45” His claim: In the first century the early Christians follow a creed that was based totally in fact. His evidence: The person passing down the creed thinks that is it so important and will pass it along to you unaltered. First this is merely an assumption. Second, this is not at all evidence that the creed is based in any fact, let alone completely in fact. This again, regardless of the claims that Jesus appears to 500 people other than this apostles, is still simply the Circular Argument fallacy. It is the claims the Bible is true because the Bible says it is true. (14’00”) 16’00” Paul, has formulated a creed is not evidence that what the creed says is fact or true. This is a rambling circular argument at this point. 18’30” Third E: Empty (tomb) Mentions that there are some good historical reasons for believing it is true but only refers to the Bible. 19’10” William Lane Craig is a pseudo-intellectual professional Christian debater who is renown for misusing and abusing classical reason and logic. The “Jerusalem Factor”. Unsubstantiated Claim: the open tomb was know to Christians and non Christians alike. It is this wide spread knowledge that allowed the story to gain traction and grow into a movement. Again, no way to know who knew what. Same circular argument, the Bible is true because the Bible says that it is true. Craig is also making some predictions about human behavior. 19’45” The Criterion of Embarrassment Women discover the empty tomb. Women were not considered to be credible. So why tell a story that would hurt its own credibility? That is exactly the type of thing one might do if one is attempting to replace an old paradigm with a new one. Its is a new world order, a new testament. Women play a symbolic roll in Christianity. The assertion that it must be historical fact and not symbolism is not supported by any evidence or necessity of logic. 22’10” The enemies of Jesus say the tomb was empty. There are other natural reasons for the tomb to be empty. We do not yet know it was filled because every new point is built upon the precious Circular Logic fallacy. This is yet another repetition of the Circular Argument fallacy the Bible is true because the Bible says that it is true. 23’45” Strobel is explicitly making the claim the the Bible is a historically accurate and reliable document. This is not a journalist. This is a “believer”. 24’25” Strobel makes the claim that the suffering of the apostles is evidence that what they claimed is true. This is not a true claim. Many people suffer greatly for beliefs that they hold dearly even if they are not true. They do not even have to be religious beliefs. Strobel is simply making a false assertion about human nature here. 24’46” Fourth E: Eyewitnesses Oh, my! This is from a journalist? Someone who should know better than anyone else about the questionable reliability of eye witnesses, it should be a journalist. Appears to 515 eyewitness. This is recounted in the Bible. The non-biblical evidence is said to be 9 records of the apostles seeing the risen Christ. This is simply asserting, assuming the records are accurate, that the religions visions or hallucinations of these men is evidence that Christ actually rose from the dead. This is not evidence of reason, logic, or science. 26’30” Claim: The conviction the apostle’s have in their beliefs make them true. This is again a terrible argument. There are many people who have extremely strong convictions about things that are not real or true. Again this is all reported in the Bible. (Circular Argument fallacy). 29’45” Evidence that the apostles taught followers is not evidence that what they were teaching is true. 31’00” Scholar states that its is a historical fact that the apostles had experiences of the risen Christ after Jesus death. Even if we assume the truth of that statement, there is no evidence anywhere that says it could be anything other than a hallucination, a subjective mental experience. 31’31” Equating this own atheism with that of this scholar is misleading and distorts the scholar’s position. 32’15” Again misusing a scholar. The claim here is that because the scholar says that a mass hallucination of 500 people seeing the same vision is not possible (which may be true) means that the story must be talking about a real risen Christ and could not be fictional. Yet he still goes on to fallaciously argue that since this mass witnessing has to be true, this proves that individual’s hallucinations were not really hallucinations but the actual risen Christ. There is no reason to believe the premise is true, and the conclusion does not follow from the premise even if it were true. Strobel is using terrible logic and reasoning., 36’00” Repetition of the false claims that being willing to die for something makes it true. 36’15” Preparing to present his “conclusion” from all of this “evidence”. 36’40” Due to the overwhelming evidence, it takes more faith to be an atheist than to be a Christian. Strobel is unaware, for whatever reason, that he is not very good at evaluating evidence. As I have demonstrated above, his evidence is weak at best, nowhere even close to overwhelming. He makes it seem overwhelming by his use of logical fallacy and misuse of logical reasoning. 37’00” Strobel concludes that the resurrection reality happened. 37’30” OK. I have throughly explained what Strobel’s conclusion is not overwhelming evidence to accept the claims that a miracle that violates all known laws of nature occurred with the resurrection of Christ. Expounds on himself as a “believer”. Plus receive. Christ died on the cross for our sins. The moral argument here is that torturing and murdering an innocent person to atone for the sins of another is a divine example of moral standard. 38’20” Strobel blames is immorality on not being a “child of god”. He simply was not moral. He feel the need to be moral nor did he reason the need to be moral. Either one of those two conditions would be equally sufficient to produce moral behavior and are independent of being a “child of god”. One does not beed to be a child of god to be moral, but apparent Strobel feels that this is the case for him, and is therefore evidence to him that Jesus is the risen Christ. 39’45” This is his conversion. 41’00” Attributes his conversion as God’s answer to his wife’s prayers. Strobel will use is conversion to be his source of morality. This was his choice. One could also choose empathy and/or reason. 43’20” Begins to assert the scholarly study in this field is revealing that the resurrection is historical truth. 43’45” I am happy that this man seems to have saved himself and his family. This is a good thing. However, this is by no means evidence that the Jesus literally and historically rose from the dead.
