very helpful Allen. I have the vitodens 100W, i have identified my terminals on the boiler. The Nest Heatlink appears to need 240v and then i run the other 2 wires back to 1 and L on the boiler. so 5 core cable. L,N &E from the boiler circuit into the heatlink. Remove the link between 1 and L back at the boiler and use the greay and black spare wire into 2&3 at heatlink end and 1 and L at boiler end. If i have understood you correctly. Thanks

With the thermostat itself I didnt have a stand for it and put it on the wall. Luckily for me the wall had an under stairs cupboard behind it with power socket in it for my tv that's on the same wall. All I did was drilled a hole thru it and plugged it up in the mains. Much better than hard wiring it. Well worth the 170 quid for it tho

Thanks for the video. At 6" into the video, you are wiring into the № 2 and № 3 connections. But, as the manual for the 100 WB1B says "OpenTherm control compatible", can you not install on the OT1 and OT2 connectors instead?
@jorkirasalas27262 жыл бұрын
No! You’d blow the boiler circuit board! OpenTherm protocol uses *low voltage* to modulate the boiler for room heating only. This vid by Allen is showing connection in an S plan system which does not modulate the boiler; it just uses on/off switching of boiler with HW &/or room heating decided by cylinder and room thermostats. For OpenTherm operation the system needs to be changed to an X plan, where the boiler is modulated by OpenTherm room thermostat for heating cycle but that is overridden by the cylinder thermostat when mains voltage switches the boiler for high temperature to heat the cylinder to avoid Legionella dangers (cylinder stat set to 60C).

Hi Allen, interesting video! How about doing one for a Viessman 100-w system boiler feeding an unvented cylinder but using an X plan and Nest to attain proper boiler modulation with OpenTherm? Seems like not many installers know how to do this and are just installing the old S plan, which is a great shame considering this boiler has one of the best modulation capabilities and the current drive to reduce carbon emissions and improve boiler efficiency. Viessman seem to push their four-pipe scheme for DHW priority, but that might not be suitable for every install, especially when replacing a boiler in an existing two-pipe system.
@jorkirasalas27262 жыл бұрын
X plan was, I think, invented by Intergas to achieve Domestic Hot Water Priority at full heating temperature to avoid Legionella, but with OpenTherm modulation of the room heating for gas efficiency and comfort. Apparently just needs some appropriate wiring changes, a normally open water valve (instead of normally closed with S plan) on the heating circuit switched by a wire feed from the NC DHW valve, and an OpenTherm controller such as Nest 3rd generation. Apparently Tado has stopped doing HW control as nobody was implementing it in UK!!
