That's how you are, I'm like this too, and the key of it is, you have to accept it. If you are like me, you get interested almost obsessively in a subject, and once you understand enough, you lose interest. And that's okay! Don't try to become an expert on just one thing just because it is the more common model of knowledge. You will know enough about a lot of subjects, to build a general knowledge that is very useful! The "aha" moment of when what you are learning clicks into everything else you know is the best felling ever, don't go against it.
@carolann8113 жыл бұрын
This is how my father was. And at the end of his life, he had such a wealth of experiences and memories about so many different things. And even if he didn't master a skill or an interest, he had enough experience and information to talk to someone about THEIR hobby or interest or skill and ask questions of them. He'd learn more and the person would feel they'd met someone who was truly interested in what they had to say.

Well, once upon a time, this was actually something to aspire to. See: Renaissance Man may refer to: Polymath, a person in the archetype of the High Renaissance, of broad talents and expertise (e.g. Michelangelo), in particular straddling both humanist and technological concerns (e.g. Leonardo da Vinci) (Wikipedia) The world needs people, who are interested in a wide variety of subjects just as much as people, who are experts in their fields. Without them, communication between different fields tends to be very slow and cumbersome. For example, take the challenges we face in straddling the gap between technology, ecology and economy. Plus, people like you are a lot of fun, to be around, imo 😉

THIIISSSS I feel like "positive thinking" has both helped and hindered me. I no longer feel miserable, but I also no longer... feel? Kind of hard to explain, I have emotions, I'm not empty. It's just that I've no longer allowed myself to dwell on sadness/stress/ any of those negative emotions, because uh-oh, that's a big sad thought. The world is too corrupted and complex so if you really sit and think about it... yeah you're going to be sad. Which seems counter productive to 'positive thinking' but then, it's like, it might be positive, but is it TRUE, and is it the thing you should actually focus on? It's like... idk, imagine being given 99 pieces of bad news but the 1 piece of good news is the one thing you're meant to focus on. Like that seems more like denial to me. Basically everyone needs to find that balance, question everything and allow a range of emotion. Sadness doesn't equal badness if it makes logical contextual sense to be feeling those emotions in that situation.

it's really important to self-reflect, I try my best to do both, being positive and getting positive habits into my life while also questioning myself a lot. I'm college student. I love asking questions. I hate when people around me do not ask. I mean, we all there to study, it's okay to not understand stuff you've never heard before. I think it's not normal that people are afraid of asking, that people are afraid of teachers. I think asking questions is one of the best things I've learnt during school.
@Marczking3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what teachers you had. Good teachers would of course encourage questions and discourse. But my experience with most of my teachers was that they didn't like questions, as it could highlight some gaps in their own knowledge, nothing they'd want to admit. Or, other teachers explained/answered the exact same thing they were just saying before. They weren't flexible in their classes to go "off topic" or diverge slightly from what they were "teaching". Of course I had the whole range of possible teachers, but it was a general theme that you should just listen and copy what the teachers say. Needless to say, I'm very happy my school years are long behind me, what a waste of life time xD Oh yeah, based on this, with quite a few teachers it was in your own interest to not ask questions, as annoying them too much would effect your own grades down the line XD The other extreme of the spectrum would have been if people ask a question every two seconds and interrupting too much. But a good teacher can handle that too, if it's a question about what they're talking about right now can go into it, otherwise take time at the end of the lesson for taking & answering questions that came up during the lecture. P.S. Ooooh, also a final reason not to ask questions (in school): some teachers did dive into questions, and then added those topics as material for your tests. So let's say it would've been a conflict of interest: Nice to learn something more, but you're also adding additional learning material for yourself and all your classmates... :P
@---dy8nr3 жыл бұрын
@@Marczking I'm very sorry for your negative school experience. I can agree with your opinion partly. For me personally knowledge is more important than passing the test. I think it's all about teacher's qualification, there are bad teachers which is sad. But there are cool teachers too who you can talk to. I can understand people who are afraid of asking but I still hate (what a strong word) position when people decide to be silent versus being active and responsible. Actually topic is vast, so we can talk privately (is it a right word?) with e-mail or something if you are interested in it. Whatever your answer will (or won't) be, good luck to you, I wish you good teachers and pleasant learning.

I remember lot of this rest mentality was rooted in the rebellion against my parents. I played videogames, watched shows and ran off to books to deny my parents the right to rule my mind. Now that I'm older, these acts of freedom have become bounds themselves. They now rule my mind, not my parents and not even me. So often we carve these caves of comfort, only for them to become a prison of possibilities. I haven't owned a TV in 15 years. I've never looked back. I pirate the occasiona show that becomes cultural icons like GoT, The Mandalorian, etc.

@sonnyecho I couldn't agree more. The average person in the USA watches 15 hours of TV a week. A full time college student spends 12 hours a week in the classroom.

Yep, love this! I get the same weird feeling, used to love watching a good series but now I feel it is not "interactive" enough, and I keep thinking I should be doing something else. So started learning again and I got A LOT of questions ... also, my fave secret girl crush :)

I’ve seen two shows all the way through in total. Thought that was really weird of me and thought nobody else watched entire shows so this blew my mind!!

Your're so wise Lefie! 🤗 I'll cut back on my anime addiction. I won't watch a new series until I get to were I want to be. Also I just want to say, I'm still mad about the ending of Lost. 😡

Just wanted to say I FREAKING LOVE YOUR MIND arghsgrufrh it's so refreshing to hear perspectives like yours -- very hard to come by nowadays. I don't know how I stumbled upon your channel but I'm always glad I did. P.S that's a beautiful vase of flowers, are they real or artificial?

You seem really interesting and open minded...it's great for a person not to take themselves too seriously and not be afraid to stumble in the pursuit of something different.

I feel like people who got stuck at the "time spent watching tv" part really missed the point here. Anyways, always good to see how you talk about some subjects that have been so worn out, distorted and emptied throughout the internet recently. You always have a more interesting take on them, and seem to be able to get the most out of them for what's really useful for YOUR life and what matches YOUR needs and values. That's an awesome ability I'm constantly trying to cultivate myself. In this video I felt like I could take a peek on how you do this. Thank you! P.S.: I'm brazilian so I felt a little proud to see 3% in your list, haha, even though I didn't finish it yet myself! What did you think of it?

Lefie, I love the sentiment of being confident in your convictions through staking your ignorance and crushing our egos. However, I highly suggest keeping a short amount of your time for consumption as opposed to 100% dedication to flow state on your own creation. This is because a small amount of consumption leads to creativity and inspiration. If we consume nothing, then we have nothing to be inspired by. In a sense this goes back to the quote "all art is stolen".

I've always told myself that asking questions made me weak or made me look stupid, but all that's done is force me to work 10x harder and longer than I need to. So much of my life was wasted doing busy work or banging my head against a wall trying to avoid imposing on or confronting people. Literally years of my life gone. Well past time for a change.

Never feel embarrassed to ask a genuine question. Anyone who belittles you for it is garbage. I had a really humbling experience in regards to growth through questions while working retail. Our Assistant manager was giving instructions to one of the younger cashiers, and he finished by confirming if she knew how to look up UPC codes with our scanners. She said yes of course. Then as soon as he walked away, she turned to me and asked me how to look up UPC codes. She didnt feel comfortable telling him or asking him because he was one to belittle people if they didnt know something he thought they "should know already". Seeing her moment of panic with the Assistant Manager, but me being the person she felt comfortable asking for help was touching. I try to make sure I answer everyone's questions directly and without judgement now.
