I’m really digging the “all-over-the-place” vlogging, were you just share what goes on in your mind, it doesn’t need to be an event or so for me. Also, I feel the same when I’m alone for a couple of days, thinking about a less consumerist lifestyle and actually reducing all that I have that is material in any way.. I’ve been moving a round a lot lately due to my studies and really felt that the essentials were always the same, whereas all the other stuff is just so unnecessary and only clogging my life. Trying to figure that out as well 🤍Thanks for sharing!!

A good friend of mine helps out with an organization called "Got Skills" where every week they take young men who don't have father's in their lives and teach them different skills. Sometimes it's how to dress for a job interview, sometimes it's how to tie a tie properly, some weeks it is how to operate a lawnmower, other weeks it's how to prepare basic meals, their last get together was giving back. They helped out a food pantry. I think something like that is priceless because those life skills are so important and it's something young people don't learn in school. You have talents to share, maybe sharing those with young people? something along those lines?

Allana--so love hearing your thoughts about your "quarter-life crisis." Even though I'm in such a different industry, still so relatable. Would love to hear more in the future. I haven't tried minimalism, per say, but I'm always trying to live minimally in terms of my exposure to technology/social media. Trying to keep my brain/heart/creativity fresh! Also, as a video idea re: your question about where the beauty world is headed...would so love to see you do a video where you try to use the same 10 products or so for a week, doing different makeup looks with that limitation. As someone with a TINY collection, this would be a super fun way to learn how to be creative with makeup while also coming from a more minimalistic place! xo

yeessss LOVE the vlog!!! also living for the mid-video monologue on consumer culture and the beauty industry- it's so overwhelming and I personally admire your content so much because you don't show endless streams of new products and new launches, but rather stick to what you know and love and I am so here for that. i love the honest discussion about it all, it's so great to know other people are thinking of these issues and starting to figure out ways to be more conscious and sustainable. you're starting from a great place in lessening PR and consuming less fast fashion i think!! being educated is key, and it's so cool that you opened up about this stuff, absolutely LOVED this video and you in general. you rock. 😘❤️🌿

Everyday ‘boring’ vlogs are my favorite! I love the talk about being more minimalistic. I’ve been trying to go low waste for about two years but clothing was always hard for me and I started doing a capsule wardrobe after watching your clothing videos and it’s so cool! I’m loving it so far. It makes it so much easier to not want to buy everything!

I appreciate you so much A! You are one of the realest out there and so down to earth. I am a history teacher and a cheer coach and sometimes it’s hard to escape from work because I love so much what I do! I catch myself watching history vids at midnight thinking about what I could use for my class and when it’s not that, it’s cheer vids to inspire me to create better routines for my kids. KZbin is full of those two subjects, but sometimes I just need a break!!😅 This is where you come in handy! 😂 I truly feel like I’m just listening to a friend, since you talk about real everyday stuff!! (even when you’re in a funk, I often feel the same way 😂)! I never leave comments, but I just got done with my last internship to be a teacher and you really did help me go through it! Thank you so much A. I wish you Happy Holidays! Thanks again for your realness! 😌❤️ Love from Montréal!

Guuuurl, I feel you on the whole minimalism tip! I watched that documentary last year and began really decluttering my bedroom (where I spend the most time) of STUFF and clothes I’ve had since I was like 14. I declutter my room at least once every few months - even if it only means I’m getting rid of an old pair of socks or trash I’ve accumulated. Fast forward now to less than a year away from turning 30, and that whole minimalist attitude is being applied to my personal life - purging everything and everyone that doesn’t bring me joy or add value to my life!

I also get random urges to declutter and honestly I feel soooooo good after and to know that someone else can use the items I purge brings me joy 😊❤

this year i started fostering kittens and supporting my local spca. i've found so much joy from doing this! i know its such a small step and little thing but seeing new families adopt these kittens gives me so much hope and joy. i've also really tried to start shopping my closet, taking unused things to consignment and buying from thrift stores as much as possible. now i'm sticking to buying the basics if i have to and building a smaller more wearable closet. i'll have you know, you and sam have been key in making these decisions for myself so THANK YOU

I’ve watched both documentaries. Since watching minimalists a few years ago we decluttered massively and have been so much happier since. Everything is so much easier when you have less stuff. OH MANNNNNN I totally get you on the minimalism and feeling overwhelmed by stuff! I think especially for people our age there is a huge amount of pressure to present yourself in a way that showcases your status through brands and high ticket items. We’re so influenced by influencers that even personal instagrams are coming off like they’re advertising. It isn’t all negative, some days I’m so inspired by Instagram! I’m excited to see where social media is going, I think there is a movement coming where the “real” is embraced, which makes me hopeful for positivity, diversity, and acceptance to flood the internet world! Been feeling the same recently about consumerism and influencer culture, and could not agree more with your sentiments. I will say that the beauty videos I love best are the ones that give tips/tutorials with the beauty products not emphasized or not even mentioned. I've noticed in the last year a bigger focus on reducing, reusing, repairing, recycling! And I am here for it! I usually do a quarterly editing/purging of "stuff". I give it to family, friends and charity. My 2020 goals are low-buy. We have upcoming home repairs in the spring, so saving for that instead of buying stuff. I also try to give more "experiences" as gifts - dinner dates, concerts, theatre events, cooking classes, sporting activities. This was a terrific video, Lan! I also love the idea of creating outfits on a monthly basis, please do a video on this. You ROCK, 💯.

I think it’s awesome that some influencers are wanting to consume less and really influence others to do the same but at the same time it’s nice seeing people talk about products they are passionate about. I think a good mix is nice, it’s easy to tell when you really love a product and it helps the consumer make a more conscious choice. I love how honest and relatable you are!
@merelmetterademaker26244 жыл бұрын
so. relatable. and very cool that you shared your thoughts! I watched the minimalism documentary last year and it changed the way I look at consuming so much!! I gradually over this year got rid of every clothing item that I just kept for keeping sake, and now only have things that I really wear. I didn't buy any clothing for over 6 months and I now make lists now of items that are really missing in my wardrobe. The items I do buy are a well thought out purchase and of good quality. It gave me so much more peace of mind not have to ' scratch that itch' of buying. I did notice I bought more 'other stuff' (cookbooks/makeup/skin and haircare, so I'm trying to this year only buy something if I need to replace it. Not to add to my collection.

Loved that video and how genuine you were. I think everyone’s getting burnt out from social media turning into constant ads and sales. I worked at a wilderness therapy program in a National Forest in Arizona that really opened my eyes to how little we actually need and how light and free we actually feel living with less. I volunteered and worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters and actually got a message last night from a “little” I had in college about how much the year we were paired up meant to her and that was like 10 years ago. Like one hour of your time per week (or 4 a month) doing basic things can mean so much to a kid! There’s animal shelters, or you could even reach out to a youth or homeless program to help get outfits at thrift stores/learn interview tips for job interviews.

I agree that the beauty community feels like a shift is happening where brands responded to the customer’s consumption and now as consumers are taking a step back and saying it’s just too much. I had a moment where I was buying a lot of beauty products and realized that a lot of it I didn’t end up using or just didn’t like and would just go back to my old favorite products or just bring overwhelmed with the amount I have. I have two small draws on my vanity desk full of stuff and I got overwhelmed I can’t imaging what it’s like getting stuff all the time and constantly being surrounded by things and clutter and then go have the guilt to waste on top of it. I’m glad that a lot of creators have spoke about their struggles with consumption because it makes you take a step back and realize that it is becoming just way too much! 🧡

I get so upset like that too sometimes!! The thing I feel makes the most sense to me and helps me not feel overwhelmed is thinking “you can’t change the whole world but you can change your world”. So I am focusing on going low waste, plant based eating and not participating in fast fashion. Buying ethically and sustainably. Thinking how much does each thing I buy affect people, animals and the earth. So I know that my actions are kind to all I am affecting. Living consciously and kindly!

I love the blazer. I’ve really been considering purchasing a staple blazer but also I feel like I have too broad of shoulders 😂. But to speak on the minimalist thing. I like to think there’s nothing wrong with enjoying quality items but I’m also a purger. So for every few new items I get I donate some of my clothes to a women’s shelter or different things. The older I’ve gotten (28 now) the more I’m into experiences instead of materialistic things but I still like to find a balance. I think the fact that you’re even having that struggle shoes you’re a good person and that’s why I’m a loyal follower of your channel.

Precious paws rescue in simcoe county ON. They don’t have an actual rescue facility but rescue dogs and set them up with volunteer fosters while they take care of any medical issues before putting them up for adoption. I got my dog from them and everyone from the person who interviewed me to the person who came to tour my home and the people who run the website/social media/answer emails were volunteers. With the skills you have with social media, video editing, etc. You could do a lot of good with an organization like this! Also our local hospice. What a god send. When my mom was there it made such a difference from being at the hospital. Volunteers would bring different crock pot foods, baked goods, or even just fill the fridge with necessities. I was really thankful to have home cooked meals instead of cafeteria food in this time. Another volunteer came with his guitar and sang to the patients. People would bring flowers, knit blankets, lots of little things they could do with the talents they had. They put on lots of volunteer-run events that the patients and families could get some joy from in the most terrible time of their lives.

I loved hearing your thoughts during the GRWM segment! I did a big Marie Kondo last summer and it approved my quality of life so much. Also please show us your putting together outfits process!

Hey Lan! Loved this style of video. Recently I’ve divided my 74 sqm apartment into sections and then just started Marie Kondo’ing it (yes it’s a verb now😝) the whole thing from start to finish clockwise. (Over several weekends) So; bedroom first (including wardrobe), then living room pt 1, living room pt. 2, kitchen and so on. Asking myself if the item brings me joy/is useful or if it’s just clutter now. It’s been SOOOO satisfying and you WOULD NOT BELIEVE the amount of crap I have taken to the second hand stores and thrown out - even for such a relatively small apartment. I feel so much lighter now! So much more at peace. And I have promised myself that I will not buy crap anymore, only high quality items that I know I will love and use for years. Actually it feels wrong now buying something just for ‘the lols’ or the novelty factor. Who would have known that the answer was LESS STUFF and not piling on more stuff to make us feel better!? Bet the big corporations don’t like this shift in consumer awareness. It’s so necessary though. For sweet mama earth. I’m doing the same when I look at ingredients lists in food and in makeup/skincare. Less is more, we confuse the body less and everything is simpler! For example there is only 1 ingredient in my moisturizer now - rose hip seed oil. Skin has never been better. Not with Kiehl’s, not with Oskia, not with friggin La Mer. It feels so good to be free. PLUS! Don’t get me started on all the money I’m saving. OK, enough from me! LOVING LANMAS, love Meryl, thank you for the awesome content!
