Blake is a music producer and singer-songwriter that hosts a live podcast geared to helping musicians and producers navigate their music career in a really grounded way. Blake started his career at the age of 15, writing and performing music in bands, and was offered his first publishing contract at the age of 17 years old.
While playing around the state of Texas as a singer-songwriter, Blake ventured into producing albums for local bands in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He quickly established a reputation of becoming the 'go-to' producer for his signature vintage-retro sound. He began mentoring the artists and bands that he worked with, helping align their careers with their goals. As the internet began shaping the music landscape with streaming, Blake then shifted his career into digital marketing strategies and online artist development.
In 2017 he was then hired to run the Music Career Development department of the Los Angeles Film School. After separating with the college in 2022 due creative differences, Blake moved to Gruene, Texas and started his own podcast and music development system aimed to mentor young musicians. He also wrote a book encompassing his entire music system's strategy guide. You can grab a free digital copy of his book here: bit.ly/freemusicbook

Lyrics:
Memories follow me left and right
I can feel you over here I can feel you over here
you take up every corner of my mind
whatcha gon do now
ever since the da day y-you went away
no I don't know how
how to erase your body from out my brain
whatcha gon do now
maybe I should just focus on me instead
But all I think about
are the nights we were tangled up in your bed
oh no (oh no)
oh no (oh no)
you’re going round in circles got you stuck up in my head (yeah)
Memories follow me left and right
I can feel you over here I can feel you over here
you take up every corner of my mind
your love stays with me day and night
I can feel you over here I can feel you over here
you take up every corner of my mind
whatcha gon do now
ever since the da da day y-you went away
someone tell me how
how much more do I gotta drink for the pain
whatcha gon do now
you did things to me that I just can't forget
now all I think about
are the nights we were tangled up in your bed
oh no (oh no)
oh no (oh no)
you're going round in circles got ya stuck up in my head
Memories follow me left and right
I can feel you over here I can feel you over here
you take up every corner of my mind
your love stays with me day and night
I can feel you over here I can feel you over here
you take up every corner of my mind
whatcha gon do now
did ya know you’re the one that got away
and even now baby i'm still not ok
did ya know that my dreams they're are the same
everytime I close my eyes
Memories follow me left and right
I can feel you over here I can feel you over here
you take up every corner of my mind
whatcha gon do now
your love stays with me day and night
I can feel you over here i can feel you over here

Hi I think you should check out the BTS Room Festa 2021. It gives you a rough idea of the diverse sound this group is capable of. Fantastic live vocals and I love that it´s a medley of their B-sides, not the greatest hits and it still is astonishingly good. Also i second the My universe Coldplay collab, plus the Documentary, it really is lovely. Tiny desk concert is awesome as well.

Charlie Puth actually has absolut pitch! And Jungkook does not need any help with his tone. He knows how to hold it and surf on it. A super skilled singer with many different colours in his voice. And he can rap. JK are also credited as a producer in some BTS songs but he is the one who does all the chorus and adlibs. Do listen to his selfproduced song "Still with you" wich he wrote. A jazzy song with amazing vocals. You have to lower your tounge when you say the letters k in his name. Then it sounds kind of a "g" (but it is not...).

You're pronouncing Jung Kook's name almost perfectly! The "J" is hard like in the name John, but also leans close to a "ch". The "K" in the beginning of Kook is closer to a "g" than a "k". the "oo" in "kook" does not rhyme with "cook" rather is a long "oo" sound like in "food" or "June". If you find it difficult or want to avoid mispronunciation, you could also call him JK ("Jay Kay"). It's a very common nickname for him.

So here are some information: Jungkook has perfectly shown the fact he can sing that a cappella/in live, his voice is natural, he is a talented singer that sings out of love for music and not for work (as he clearly demonstrate). Charlie and Jungkook had another collaboration singing "we don't talk anymore" in live. Even thought Jungkook is a really good singer he is not a native English speaker so we can hear a little bit of pronunciation that may remind us that...but is only for some words, he did a really good job. (For a Korean speaking and learning English is just difficult as an American trying to speak and learn Chinese). BTS even thought you don't notice that when you are new to them, have really distinctive and different voices. Jungkook is the main vocalist with Jin and Jimin...even thought he has had more lines than the other two in many songs. Jungkook, we can also say, has a voice that reminds us of Justin Bieber (since it is...we can consider it "sweet" and very "likeable"), he may have a lot of success in America for his voice. You need to listen to other BTS songs. I recommend you: (if you want to listen well to their voices) -house of cards -blood sweat and tears -still with you (Jungkook voice) -baepsea -the truth untold (vocal line) -stigma (V voice) -lie (Jimin voice...in this you can see how much his voice is particular..go also see his dance to this song, a masterpiece) -anpanman (for some rap) -mic drop (for some good rap and sound) -fake love (a Masterpiece..for the concept, the rap, the voices... everything, along with blood sweat and tears (you need to have read some books to understand this one well haha)) -black swan (a masterpiece...voice, message..with this song, you understand what a real artist is, is like a poem for art, you need to look at the lyric (the main point of the song))

You might not find a lot of ARMYs recommending it bc we usually start with the more famous songs but I heard one of the producers say that J-Hope was very meticulous when they were producing this song 😁 It's from one of their latest albums called BE which is a pandemic album and the title of the song is kind of a play of words with disease and also "dis" being a prefix so dis-ease meaning having a hard time 😁

That’s so refreshing to see in a KZbinr reacting to BTS: people not having a knee-jerk reaction to being challenged. It’s so nice to see someone actually demonstrably knowledgeable about music production (not just saying they are). Thank you for mentioning the distortion; you mentioned Jungkook’s voice, and I’m a little sad that you heard it here with the distortion. He has a very pretty, free-spinning voice, with medium power and incredible control - especially considering he’s often dancing while singing. The best, clearest studio example of his voice is either his song “Still With You” or his parts on the Coldplay song “My Universe” (for My Universe, he is the first Korean part). Still With You was recently made available a capella, as well. If you’d like a link, I can find one for you. There are many many live clips of him singing, but I don’t know how far you want to dive into those yet. The distortion works well with the song to lend that other-worldly, almost too much feeling that compliments the subject matter, but they did lean a little heavy on Jungkook’s voice in my opinion. A couple of people, including Charlie Puth, have mentioned that Jungkook has perfect pitch, but there’s no true demonstration beyond, as you have said, him having incredible relative pitch. Jungkook does do some production work, but if I remember correctly, he didn’t for this song. He has worked on others, and is very active in terms of the vocal guides and adlibs with most of BTS’ catalog; it would be safe to say that his vocal “flavour” is heavy imprinted on many of their songs. Ooooof, I have so much to say. I’ll leave it off here. Thanks for reacting and being logical and calm. That’s a rare trait online nowadays.

Oh i love that you pronounced his name right the first time too! And gosh, yes, his voice is amazingly like edited but mostly not bcos he can naturally change his vocals a lot for whatever style he wants. It's absurd but it's like magic. But some people will call his main vocal style as "trendy", not unique but still golden.

hello. thank you for your explanations which are very clear although I am not at all a musician. I finally understood why Western songs bored me so much since I discovered kpop and more precisely BTS... we never get bored and their songs never seem too long to me whatever their style. I hope you'll agree when you hear more of their work. and thank you also for the fair and delicate way of expressing your opinions.

JK is one of the best vocalists anywhere. He has been training since the age of 13 and 7 companies wanted him. I recommend his songs Euphoria and My Time to get a feel for his voice. I also recommend watching an intro to BTS video before getting too far into the songs. I think you will get more out of it if you know them a bit and what they do. There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. It is important to start with the right songs. It is easy to find their most popular ones. I would do Mic Drop, Fire, or ON Kinetic Manifesto next. They have a wide range of music in their catalog and their videos are very good.

This is difficult to put into words but a big reason why ARMY loves BTS so much is not even the music or the mv's but who they are as people, what they stand for, how they carry themselves as people and how much they love and respect their fans. They are genuine, humble and kind (and hilarious too), they speak out about the things they care about and they encourage us to be like that too. I'm a metalhead, K-pop is really not the music I naturally gravitate towards, I also don't care about any other K-pop groups. I like their music because they're BTS and I love them if that makes any sense. For example hearing Jungkook sing gives me goosebumps because I know how much he loves singing and how much work he puts into everything he does, the same goes for all the other members.

Charlie has true perfect pitch, he can tell what key an engine is whining in. He produced this song himself. He said he told JK (nickname) what he wanted, and that a week later he received "pristine and perfect" vocals from him. I suspect that JK has "undiagnosed" perfect pitch, I'm not sure how much technical knowledge he has in that area, he just knows - I'm supposed to sing THIS note and nails it. He started as a trainee when he was 13-14 years old - his BTS bandmates were at his middle school graduation! K-pop groups have assigned hierarchies within them - JK is the main vocalist (what we would call the lead, but the main is the top dog of that category and then there are multiple "leads") and then "subs" that can fill in as needed). He records guide vocals for the other members to learn their parts, he is credited with background vocals (they call them chorus) on most of their songs, also helps create and sing harmonies, often with his own stacked vocals, and he is also the ad-lib king. He is completely dedicated to perfecting his vocals, he even sings while running to practice keeping his voice stable while doing their vigorous dances. In the Proof Anthology they just released, there was a third disk on CD only that is all demos and unreleased material - another gift to fans! There is a version of "Still With You" on there, written, produced and sang by Jungkook - but it's just his isolated vocals - stacked in some parts, and it's amazing. I geek out so hard at that kind of stuff!!! Footage of them in the studio is kinda scatterd around within their mountain of content. The "My Universe" making of mini documentary is probably the best out there - it's so awesome seeing them work with Chris (they are fast friends now!). Watch that and then the finished MV - it is an EPIC collab! Here is the documentary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJqwkJZje8hqqcU

When I watched the music video by myself i actually thought that the fast changes of shots were very annoying and frustrating! I couldnt focus on things properly and i really dont like it. Thats probably because BTS doesnt do this and i mainly watch their MV's. they also make kinda long songs for todays standards and thats because, as the lyrics in "yet to come" say, they dont care for trophies, titles, top100 or things like this that much. Of course they care but its not the main thing they focus on :)

I know that you’re analyzing and not dragging songs. As a person who went from solely rock to BTS, I might recommend Fake Love. The music video has to do with their fictional storyline, so it might be a bit confusing tho. The behind the scenes of the MV is really cool too! There’s a lot that is practical that was surprising the first time I watched it. Thanks again for the reactions! Fun fact: Both Charlie Puth and Jungkook have perfect pitch. Charlie Puth revelead in an interview that there's only three artists who have ever sent him perfect vocals that you can just "copy and paste" into the song with no work needed; Boyz II Men, James Taylor, and Jungkook. The music was also made to "move" around the room (if you wear headphones or have proper stereo/surround sound) to match the lyrics, so the slightly "swervy" feel to the music supports the feeling of having music or a voice "stuck in your brain", if that makes sense. :)

About picking favorites with regards to voices, it's actually fine since it's a personal taste. It doesn't mean one is lesser than the other. Like within BTS vocalists, I like Jungkook and Jimin's voice so much because of their unique and perfect tone for me, but for low tone, V's voice is my favorite and when it comes to high pitch, I love Jin's voice the best. For the name of Jungkook : the J is like dj and the G and the K has similar pronunciation, just between the both. You have to make a sound not really like a G but not really like a K, just between. So it's like "djunggook" But you can just say JK instead if it's more comfortable for you ;-)

Some of their other songs that are kinda a mix of rock and a bunch of other stuff are things like Dionysus and even Not Today. Again, back in their early days they were doing a lot more 'hiphop' stuff, and I suggest you check a couple of those out. BTS has such a broad range of songs and a good look at some of their stuff, which i'm sure you have seen a lot of comments about, it the 2021 Festa Room Live. There are videos of them in the recording studio, and funnily enough, during one of their variety shows 'In The Soop' the members came up with and Suga produced the theme song while they were supposed to be on vacation, as he brings all his equipment with them everywhere. I would love for you to keep checking them out and uncover the true beauty of BTS. trust me, it's worth it

I think the reason we as fans are so dedicated to BTS is because for many of us, they either literally saved our lives, or were instrumental in our recovery. I wouldn't be the person I am today without BTS. As for pronouncing Jungkook's name, you are really close. Jungkooks name is very difficult for non-Koreans to pronounce correctly. To say his name correctly, try saying it with your teeth closed. Move your lips and tongue, but don't actually open your teeth. Once you know what it needs to sound like, you can move your teeth again, as the closed jaw is just a trick to help get the hang of it. And if anyone wants a brief Hangul lesson to understand Jungkooks name better and why most of us say his name wrong, please read on. When Jungkook chose his stage name back in 2012-2013, "Jungkook" was the correct romanisation of his Korean name "정국." However, the South Korean government changed the romanisation system they were formally using a few years ago to more accurately match the correct pronunciation. So the correct way to write his name using English letters is actually "Jeong-guk" and that is more representative of how to pronounce his name. However, he stuck with "Jungkook" as his stage name for simplicities sake. Korean is a language with typically softer consonants and vowels than English. It is also a very fast spoken language, so you don't linger on sounds the way we do in English. Instead, everything kind of blends together to make soft, lyrical and fast language. The sound of consonants also changes if they are followed by a vowel or not. When they are followed by a consonant or no sound, the consonant should be "cut off" at the end without opening the mouth. Try making a "uk" sound and close your mouth on the k sound. It is only just there, right? If the consonant is followed by a vowel, then it is released and isn't cut off. Try making a "ka" sound. See how much stronger the k sound is when followed by a vowel where you open your mouth. This is why Jimmy Fallon often calls Jungkook "Jungkoooooo" he has been told the last k is almost silent, but hasn't been told to use that k sound to close his mouth and halt the oo sound. Now to break down Jungkooks name. ㅈ Is the first letter in Jungkook's name. It isn't a hard J like in English, it is softer J with a very slight ch to it. ㅓ Is the first vowel. It is romanised as eo and isn't an oo or an u sound it doesn't have a parallel in English. It is a softer sound than English vowels. ㅇ Is ng when it is at the end of a syllable. It is also a little gentler than an ing in English. Put them together and you have 정 or Jeong. You don't want to go for a strong Jung, it needs to be gently spoken. Now things get tricky. ㄱ This is the g/k consonant. When this sound is followed by a vowel, it is pronounced as a g, but it isn't as strong as an English g such as in good. ㅜ This is very close to an u sound in English, but again is gentler and also shorter. ㄱ This is the g/k consonant again. When is is followed by another consonant or no sound, it is a very faint k sound. Where this gets trickier is if, like BTS, you call Jungkook "Jeong-guk-ie" that k/g sound turns into a g sound because it is followed by a vowel and therefore isn't a cut off k sound. So as well as not having the correct spelling of Jungkook's name, and having our own accents to deal with, and Jungkook's name pronunciation changing slightly depending on if you are saying a vowel immediately after or not, it is really difficult to pronounce it correctly. I recommend practising while keeping your teeth closed, that it how I fixed my pronunciation.
