Aww, No More Dream their Debut song. June 12, 2013. That's right, this song started it all. Jungkook, V & Jimin were still in school. When I say school, Jungkook was in Junior high. If you want to know what happening with BTS, how they are feeling and what they are thinking, just read their lyrics. You need to know their back story. They started on the bottom with a company teetering on bankruptcy. Their company had NO pull getting them auditions or stage time. They had little money to market themselves. Suga tells a story, where he only had $2.00 so he would have to decide if would eat that day or take the bus. This song told us what they wanted their hopes & dreams to be but ended being their reality of a day to day life. They are asking: Who do you see now in your mirror? In Korea parents are pushing to get education, so you can get a government job, not becoming a rapper or singer. Being forced into a dream that isn't your dream.

Here are the lyrics [Refrain: RM, All] What is your dream? (What is?) What is your dream? (What is?) What is your dream? (What is?) Is your dream just that? [Verse 1: SUGA, RM, Jung Kook] I wanna big house, big cars, and big rings But actually I don't have any big dreams Ha, ha, I live so comfortably Even I don’t have any dream, no one says anything Everyone thinks the same as I am The completely forgotten childhood that was filled with so many dreams Don't worry about university, I'll go somewhere even if it’s far away Okay, mom, I'm going to the study room right now [Pre-Chorus: V, j-hope] What were you dreaming to become? Who do you see now in your mirror, I gotta say Go your own way Even if you live one day Do something Put your weakness away [Verse 2: Jung Kook] Why aren't you saying anything? I thought you said you didn't want to study You are afraid of dropping out of school, aren't you? See, you're already getting ready for school Grow up, you are just all talk, you have a glass mentality boy Stop! Ask yourself, have you ever tried hard? [Refrain: RM, All] Hey, what is your dream? (What is?) Hey, what is your dream? (What is?) Hey, what is your dream? (What is?) Is your dream just that? [Chorus: Jung Kook, Jin, RM] It's a lie, you such a liar See me, see me ya, you are a hypocrite Stop telling me to switch the path, hey, take care of your own business Please don't force me (Say) La, la, la, la, la What is your dream? What is your dream? (Say) La, la, la, la, la Is your dream just that? Is your dream only that? [Verse 3: SUGA] Okay, the boring same day, every day just repeats Adults and parents cram us with dreams stuck in place The No. 1 dream job, a government employee? The dream wasn’t forced, a relief pitcher in the bottom of the ninth [Verse 4: j-hope] Throw a fastball towards self-study that is a waste of time Disobey the hell of a society, grant a special pardon to your dream Ask yourself what is your dream’s profile Become the subject of your own life that's always been suppressed [Pre-Chorus: Jin, Jimin] What were you dreaming to become? Who do you see now in your mirror, I gotta say Go your own way Even if you live one day Do something Put your weakness away [Refrain: RM] Hey, what’s your dream? Hey, what's your dream? Hey, what's your dream? Is your dream just that? [Chorus: Jung Kook, Jin, RM] It's a lie, you such a liar See me, see me ya, you are a hypocrite Stop telling me to switch the path, hey, take care of your own business Please don’t force me (Say) La, la, la, la, la What is your dream? What is your dream? (Say) La, la, la, la, la Is your dream just that? Is your dream only that? [Bridge: RM, SUGA, Jung Kook] You don't know how to live You don't know how to fly You don't know how to decide Now you don't even know how to dream Open your eyes, eyes, eyes Everyone, now dance, dance, dance Now, dream, dream, dream again Don't move slowly, don't hesitate, wassup! [Chorus: Jung Kook, Jimin, Jin, RM] It's a lie, you such a liar (Yeah, yeah, yeah) See me, see me ya, you are a hypocrite Stop telling me to switch the path, hey, take care of your own business Please don't force me (Say) La, la, la, la, la (Yeah) What is your dream? What is your dream? (Say) La, la, la, la, la Is your dream just that? Is your dream only that? (Yeah) [Outro: RM] To all the youngsters without dreams

If you think about it, this is their debut song from a company which was so small it nearly went bankrupt but they always threw the money on good quality music and video and never compromised which paid off big time. I have never seen or listened to a half arse effort from them. It just doesn't exist whether it's group or solo projects. Their attention to detail and perfectionism are insane. 💜

Trying to answer your question about their songwriting process on a catchy chorus. RM who is the leader and I would say the main lyricist of the group does a lot of live streams talking about how things come about. So they think of a concept whether it be for a song or album and they start to write. RM mentions he puts a lot of effort into not just the meaning but what is catchy. He has stated that a good song doesn't just have a good beat, but a good chorus that people can sing to. It has to be nice to listen to on repeat. RM even thinks about the vowel endings and how that affects the sound of the songs. He then adds it has to have meaning because to him a great song has a purpose. Now in a sense of what gets selected, everyone including their in-house staff (or outside artists) writes, composes, etc. melodies, lyrics, etc. and from there those are picked to be in the next album and they build from there to create a song.

Thank you. I think that about sums up what I am trying to say in the video. That would be a different process than let’s say how a singer-songwriter would compose a track. Or how a group that has a “bring what you have to the table” and let’s figure it out as we go mentality.

Album music tells J-Hope story and he recomend listen it in order. I think himself told allso that he can write bangers but he wanted this out of him before move on... @@BlakeMakesMusic Actually they do have a writers' round type of lyric writing as well. RM mentions many times how he maybe can't think of a chorus so one of the others writes it or they know the concept and everyone takes a swing. Then they get together and decide "this melody from Suga with this chorus from V and RM's verses etc" When you have seven people writing songs for a group you can't say they only have one style of writing.

While I am grateful for your reaction, BTS DO THINK about what they have to say, it's just that they are so good that they can put those thoughts in a track that sounds good. The video is from 2013, their debut song: they were teenagers here. I think you might like Outro: Tear: there's no music video, but a beautiful live performance at Wembley. It's a heartwrenching song about that time in 2018 when they thought of disbanding and it was written by Suga, one of the three rappers.

I love seeing musicians and producers react to BTS with their takes on the music and artistry. I really enjoyed this one. So, this is their very first song and music video from 2013. They were originally formed as a rap heavy group so you can see that the rap influence was strong in this one. The school bus appeared at the end of Yet to Come as they went "back to one" in a sense. That moment represented ending their first chapter and moving on to chapter 2. As you go along you will recognize more elements from that video in other MVs you see.

Thank you for your reaction. I appreciate your insight on songwriting and production, and you have interesting things to say that I want to respond to. I hope you don't mind my long comment. 1. People's short attention span. I read about how singers these days try go get a viral tiktok or a short hit single. But BTS still makes 4-5 minute songs and releases *concept albums* (their "Map of the Soul: 7" is included in Rolling Stones' list of 50 best concept albums of all time), even series of interconnected albums. Their most recent release, J-hope's solo album "Jack in the Box", is a very cohesive album that you need to listen to in order, so you get a story from beginning to end. Their pandemic album "BE" takes you on a definite emotional arc. 2. Most of their official MVs have good *subtitles,* except their early ones. For those, you'll have to go to the "1theK" channel. Just check the setting before you watch the video. If "English" is available, you're good. If it has auto-generated lyrics, find another video. "Enjoy BTS More" provides English subtitles to their live performances. 3. While most songs have catchy lines for fans to sing along, K-pop takes this to another level. They have *official fanchants,* with specific sing-along lines and call-and-response shouts. If you want to see what a fanchant sounds like, there's a fancam video of their US television debut of "DNA" at the AMAs in 2017. The general audience didn't know what hit them. The video: "BTS - DNA 171119 Loud Fanchant AMAs" (though maybe you should react to the official MV first before watching this). 4. *Their songwriting process:* Everyone, from BTS members and their in-house songwriters/producers, can suggest lyrics and melodies for a song, and the best ones are selected and compiled into the final version. In CD 3 of their anthology album "Proof", there are demos by individual members that didn't make it into the final song. For example, we have V's version of "Spring Day", Jin's version of "Epiphany", and J-hope's version of "DNA". The three rappers, though, are required to write their own lyrics because authenticity is essential in rap. Suga has mentioned that for certain songs, he had to rewrite his verses multiple times because they kept being rejected (maybe by the in-house producer). Their Western co-writers say that they would receive an instrumental track and a specific brief, and they would write melodies over it and submit several versions. Big Hit would then pick and choose the parts that they like. Their Western collaborators (songwriters, producers, mixers) have all said that working with BTS/Big HIt is so easy because what they want is so clear, and their tracks are so organized (for mixers), so they can simply follow the brief. Perhaps this is what makes their songs so varied and catchy. They have a wealth of material to choose from and they can pick and choose the best ones. 5. *The lyrics.* Others have commented on this. Their lyrics is one of the main reasons why BTS is so popular. This might be surprising because they sing in a language that's not commonly spoken, and people might think their popularity is due only to their good music and good choreography. But thanks to translation, their lyrics and their positive message have helped their fans in many ways, including even bringing some of them back from the brink of suicide, helping others to get through depression, to cope with grief and loss, to love themselves, to heal from toxic relationships, to find comfort in hard times, or to simply bring a smile to their faces.

This was one of their first two singles which they debuted in 2013. The Kpop industry is known for catchy songs, but empty lyrics, without depth. Sometimes very repetitive and practically without message. BTS since this first single strove to give a message with his lyrics, this song is a criticism of the educational system and the social pressures on children, who in the end, end up having no dreams of their own. RM wears glasses, so as not to show his eyes, because he was very attacked by haters for not entering beauty standards for an Idol. The same JHope, wearing a mask like that of horses, because the haters told him he had a horse face. It was their way and the agency’s way of using those comments against haters. RM and Suga are the main songwriters and composers of the band, and both are literally geniuses. RM has 145 of IQ and is the leader of the band. Suga is also the main producer, his passion and his specialty is beat's maker. He also produces for other artists. I think you will enjoy Mic Drop, DNA, Louther Than Bombs, Dionisious and Dope.

This video was their debut song on their album '2 Cool 4 Skool' released June 12, 2013. They debuted by performing this song on June 13, 2013, on a music show. That is how they do it in South Korea. You debut your music on TV music shows. The youngest member was - Jungkook - was 15 years old, and the oldest member - JIN - was 20 years old. So most of them were teenagers, and SUGA and JIN were 20. They debuted as a Hip Hop Idol group, and they were writing and producing their own music from the beginning, with their in house production team. I will link you the subtitled version to this, since they had a message in this song for the youth of their generation, and a bit of a call out to thier haters, which they already had at this point. They trained together since 2010, and two of the rappers came from underground rap/hip hop (RM, SUGA). No More Dream w/Eng. subs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKWsq4utramKhbs

Just commenting here to say that I received a notification yesterday about someone replying to a comment I left on your Magic Shop reaction and when I went to go look at it, I saw the video was no longer up on your channel. Since I've seen a lot of reactors watch that particular video without any hard copyright strikes, I can only assume you took it down because of the wave of disagreement you received in the comments and that's a bit disappointing because I don't think anyone had a true problem with you as a reactor, just your assumptions and the bias that comes along with them. Hopefully there's a separate reason why the video is no longer available but if it is simply because of the bad reception then that makes me think you are only reacting to bts, and maybe kpop in general, for some quick views and positive feedback.

I received a bit of backlash via email and If I were doing this for views I would have left it up as it was tracking to be my 2nd highest viewed video. My intention for the channel is to learn from the music and the artists, not put out negative commentary. I may put it back later but I don’t think I was ready for the reaction and didn’t anticipate it. It was trending because ARMY was driving people to downvote the video. Despite the fact that dozens told you in the comments that there wasn’t a translation issue but rather you were not accurately understanding the song…you still posted it on Twitter. It’s still not a romantic song. You will struggle to understand it until you take it into a different (and it’s intended) context. Millions upon millions of native English speakers understand this song’s translation.
@BlakeMakesMusic

@@98generals I understand that. I also have automated posts to other channels when I upload a video, so it has nothing to do with leaving it up somewhere. If I am not understanding the song, then that is fair. I never claimed to. These are opinions. I shouldn't have to put a disclaimer on my videos so people don't get triggered, however please remember, I have heard maybe 5 BTS songs. To think that I would be even 1% as knowledgable as even a casual fan would be silly. I made the video private because I do not want to create a misguided backlash. Its your right to remove a comment, unsubscribe or do whatever as much as it is mine to remove content that I deem not good. My channel is not a BTS reaction channel. Its a music channel. This kind of reactions in a short amount of time make it difficult to continue navigate videos like this a content creator and especially difficult to even want to be included in a group that reacts that way. Also, if there is a comment on a video, I can't change the conversation or idea in the video. Its already done. It becomes a pile on. It would be more productive for ARMY to come on to my livestream while being on video and have a discussion rather than scream in the comments, share to downvote, or send me nasty emails. I really do aim to create positive content on my channel.

In order to truly “get it”, you need to watch: 1) A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7 by Taylor; 2) The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS (2022 update) by Rice Squad 3) The Rise of Bangtan series (currently 21 episodes with a few more to come in the future). Rise of Bangtan is a fan-made series, but you would never guess it. Aneesa, the series creator, does an incredible job of telling BTS’ story while also mixing in information about South Korea and the Idol system. If you really want to jump down the rabbit hole, you might want to decide on your approach now. I say this because you happened to do their very first song today and you’ve seen very little other than that. If you want to start at the beginning, you’re in the perfect scenario to do so. If you don’t want to do it that way, let us know your thoughts and ARMYs will help point you in the right direction. FYI, including pre-debut tracks, solo works, BTS albums, games and Web-toons, there are around 300 songs in their discography. Plus, there are almost 200 episodes of “Run BTS”, their variety show, 4 seasons of “Bon Voyage”, their travel show, and 2 seasons of “In the Soop”, their staycation show. And, 4or 5 additional documentary style shows. In other words, tons of content. Also, some cultural things to be aware of: 1) When BTS members state their age, it will be 1-2 years older than international age. This is really important for understand how young they were when they started. 2) Korean names are stated with the surname first and then their given name. 3) South Korean and Japanese men are much more affectionate with one another than men in the west. Just don’t be surprised when they embrace each other, tell each other “love you”, compliment each other on their looks, or even hold hands; it’s cultural. However, let me say that if any of the members are part of the LGBTQ+ community, I support them 100%. 4) K-Pop is known for the way idols are found and trained. Something unique to K-Pop is that Idol trainees live together in a dorm or apartment. Our guys lived together full time for around 7 years and are basically like brothers. The “Rise” series addresses this in detail. 5) South Korean men have a mandatory obligation to serve in the military for 18-22 months. A couple of years ago, a change was made to allow Idols to put off their enlistment until age 30 (international age). Jin, the oldest member, turns 30 on December 4, 2022. So, all BTS members will be enlisting over the next several months and will come back together as a group in 2025. Until then, we have 5 more solo albums that will be released by each one of the members over these next few months. RM’s album, Indigo, is set to release on December 2, 2022. Jin just released a single, The Astronaut, which was a song that was kind of gifted to him by Coldplay. He performed it live in Argentina with Coldplay just a couple of weeks ago. j-hope also released a new album, “Jack in the Box” back in July. He headlined at Lallapalooza and broke their 30+ year ticket sales record. Jungkook just performed a new song, “Dreamer”, earlier today at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar. BTS also held a free concert in Busan, South Korea a month ago. 4 more things…. - BTS is all about lyrics and performance. For accurate lyric translations, use Doolset. It’s like genius, but it’s just for BTS. doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com - If you do lyric videos, the ones with the most views are not usually the best translation. This is where I would ask for help from K-ARMY (Korean speakers) - The KZbin channel, Enjoy BTS More, is great! Check it out! Lots of live content that has had accurate English translations added. - BTS lyrics are incredible and their videos are amazing! So much so that many songs/videos need an explanation. There are 3 channels to know for these. DKDK TV, Bookish Theories and xCeleste. Sorry this was so long. I hope at least some of this will be helpful to you. As Jimin would say, “you nice, keep going”. Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

This being there first song, the video doesn’t have English subtitles, but the lyrics were purposely written. Check out RM’s Joke. It’s amazing. If you do look at the explanation video. It makes more sense to westerners.

I don't believe BTS has a general process to their song production. There are several members in BTS who often produce for them, they also have a handful of producers they closely work with and they also occasionally outsource talent they work with. I am not musically trained, but I remember RM talking about this in an interview (I think it was in the subway in NY when they played games with Jimmy Fallon and performed ON at Central Station) that for him beat is crucial and often the beat comes first and everything else is built on top of that. However, on occasion, there's a message that inspires a melody and it's taken from there. I imagine producers can be quite versatile, even if they have a process they find works best for them they may occasionally depart from that. Nevertheless, I think listening to you breaking down a song and trying to figure out the production process is interesting.

Hey thanks for your comment. I put the video on private temporarily. I felt like my thoughts weren’t fleshed out the right way and what my points were seemed pretty unclear. The points I was trying to make were taken incorrectly and could have been stated in a more clear way. I may make the video public again but it was not my intention to make negative content. It was trending to be my 2nd highest ranking video and I just wasn’t too stoked about it. If you want my full thoughts you can check out my comment here kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXW0p2ewqraVmtE

Thank you for your feedback. I am going to have some bad takes or less than ideal things to say in a reaction to a song sometimes. I do think that my point was taken in a negative way when I was trying to explain a complement to the group about songwriting skills with arranging the melody. I personally think that as a songwriter it’s always best to try and make a song as catchy as possible especially if it’s upbeat. Sometimes my thoughts aren’t articulated as well as they could be. It’s not meant to be insulting to the group. But I honestly appreciate your feedback.
