Left handed scissors and cutting left-handed

Most "left handed" scissors are just right handed scissors... with a different handle and held in the other hand. This makes it almost impossible to see what you're cutting and uncomfortable to cut with. The correct reverse blade scissors (shown in the video) are very rare. You wont find them in stores sadly. I'm glad this video has explained this issue as so many people don't seem to understand when you tell them as a lefty you must cut right handed.

Now I realize why I could never cut fabrics and tougher materials....and I always felt ashamed that I don't even know how to use a pair scissors... got to go get some left handed scissors now.

Wow! I have always been a lefty (though my mum wanted me to write right-handed), and I have always used right handed scissors. I get exactly the same thing as the person said! I really want to try left-handed scissors now! :) Go lefties! :D

when i was in school, there was never any left-handed sciossors, so i was forced to use right-handed ones. anyway, i didn't think there was that much difference -- but now looking back i realize that i was always uncomfortable (hand strains), and i couldn't get them to work sometimes if they were "loose" like everyone else could. i thought i was just bad at cutting. that wasn't the case though...

I (a lefty) find left-handed scissors completely pointless. I learned how to use right handed scissors in my left hand without any problems mentioned in the video. What's more? I find lefty scissors nearly impossible to use. I can cut with right handed scissors without any problems, cut my circles clockwise without bending or ripping the paper, and don't feel any discomfort. I grew up in an almost completely right-handed family and have adjusted a left-handed like to a right-handed world.

It's true that if you use the wrong hand with the wrong scissors, but i've never understood why. I've tried to cut wrong with my right hand, and to cut right with my left hand(on right handed scissors) but the right hand always cuts and the left hand never does. it puzzles me.

I've never had any real trouble using right handed scissors on my left hand, I guess I just got used to them.Funny thing is, my mom once bought lefty scissors by mistake, and gave them to me because she couldn't use them on her right hand.

I learned to cut left-handed with left-handed scissors but at home there were only right-handed scissors. So I tried with right. Now I can't cut at all, no matter what I do, I can never cut something neatly.

Much better to have the right blade on top. True, it is a bit harder to see the cutting line but for tough challenging materials both blades can have their cutting edges twisted together in a clockwise sense looking down the scissors. Left blade on top requires cutting edges twisting together in an anti-clockwise sense looking down the scissors which is achievable with the fingers but NOT achievable with the thumb throughout the entire cutting stroke. Nearly all scissors' edges will splay apart on tough materials unless twist is used.

@heather65459 I was just stating my opinion. I didn't mean they were pointless for everyone, just to me. I understand that a lot of leftys cant use right-handed scissors (I mostly know ones who can, though) it's just that I personally don't have any use for them.

when i was a child i used scissors that was supose to be both left-handed and right-handed but it still looked ugly. and i was upset because even the boys in my class could do it great but i couldn't :( but now 10 years later someone told me that it was the blades that did it!

me being left handed all my life & me growing up in the 80's and having 2 go to school that doesn't have any left handed scissors really sucked for me because i couldnt cut right using right handed scissors and i had sum mean ass trolls 4 elementary school teacher's never wanted 2 bring all my artwork home with me we used 2 make a huge envelope folder that we would put a whole school year of artand crafts projects cuz i thought my artwork i did in class sucked because we always used to make holiday deco to take home 2 moms

Well good for you. But while we learned to handle righty scissors, that does not change the advantages to lefty scissors. So don't act like lefty scissors are pointless.

I just gave up when I was a kid and taught myself to use them with the right hand. I'm somehow ambidextrous, and some things I do with my right hand. But my left hand dominates nonetheless. But it seems I could train myself to do many things with both hands. I don't know how difficult it is for a pure left handed person to do this. But even if I use scissors with my right hand with some skill my hand still hurts after a while. Seriously, fuck scissors.
