9:57 The reason why most fighting games on the SNES use black borders is that the time to update the characters' graphics to VRAM is very short, so if both characters update their graphics at the same time, depending on their size , this will cause a v-blank overflow. So, to extend the v-blank time, the developers used 'forced blanking' on the screen. This isn't a big problem for other game genres, if a lot of characters are about to change their graphics, just make some of them update in one frame and the rest update in the next frame. DKC and other animation-intensive games do this trick too. But for a fighting game, it's important to have instant visual cues, so the developers preferred to crop the screen like this.

As someone was heavily into Initial D at one point, the reason for the water in the cup is the character is delivering Tofu at night and he has to keep the car stable while making deliveries quickly. The water in the cup is there to make sure his driving is stable to not mess up the food
@HeinousinAppearance
@HeinousinAppearance Жыл бұрын
Seeing a non-Initial D fan review an Initial D game is hilarious, these SEGA Initial D games are very popular in arcades. One called like "Arcade Stage Zero" and another called "Initial D The Arcade" are fairly new and is a coveted item for certain American barcade type locations - a whole chain here in Orlando seems to almost specialize in them.
@QF_Dan72
@QF_Dan72 Жыл бұрын
The art style of Initial D is the main reason it appeals to many fans. I'm surprised you don't like it. Racing at the mountain with narrow roads in Japan is what they call Touge that has been going on since the 90s. Also regarding the soundtracks, they are actually eurobeat.

A couple things about Initial D Special Stage. It's based on the arcade game which was released in the west! They just removed all the voices... The game is 1,000 times better in first person with manual transmission. It was designed with those settings in mind. It has a sequel on the PSP as well as another on PS3.

The original Strikers 1945 was never released outside of Japan that i know of... There was a released 'called' Strikers 1945 on PS1 released in USA, but it was actually Strikers 1945 2 and not the first game. Strikers 1945 was released in Japan for both Playstation and Saturn. DonPachi and DoDonPachi were only released in Japan on Saturn and Playstation, i don't think either one released outside Japan.

I've actually been playing Frame Gride myself recently, and it is indeed really good. However, seeing Joe question if it's possible to turn around faster confused me at first, and as I continued to watch his gameplay I realized why: He never strafe dashed a single time. While A does make you jump, that's only when you double tap it. Simply tapping it once make you dash, and when you do that while holding L or R you strafe dash, which allows for the camera to spin around just that little bit faster & make it easier to keep your opponent on screen. Just found it a little weird that, despite bringing up VO, Joe never seemed to play Frame Gride like VO, which is all about strafe dashing to keep yourself focused onto your opponent. Beyond that, though, a very solid & enjoyable episode of Game Sack.

Wow, thank you for covering Gegege no Kitaro Gyakushuu Youma Daikessen. There's barely even playthrough videos of that game. For years I've been trying to collect all the 2D platformers for PS1/PS2. I wanna make a video covering all of them, but there isn't even a list to look up online, I really want to make the first complete 2D PS1 platformer game list(platformers are my lifelong passion). I'm pretty close outside of a couple mediocre oddities like Agent Armstrong and a couple Japanese exclusives. I can't even find a working rom/disc image of Gegege no Kitaro Gyakushuu Youma Daikessen, and of course it's very expensive and hard to find. The same 2 copies have been on ebay for over 5 years. Besides Little Ralph, this Gegege no Kitaro game is one of the few 2D PS1 games that I still needed to get. That sucks that it's not amazing, but it looks fun enough. Now $400 fun, IDK. And if interested, don't get it confused with the other PS1 Gegege game that is like $20-$50 and is an RPG style game. Great job archiving this game I'm a Game Sack review, it may be the only youtube review of it online, I had no idea how the game played, hit detection, quality, etc, just short gameplay shots.

If you still haven't found a working dump, you might be interested to know that the r/Roms Megathread has a link to (what I'm pretty sure is) every game pre-PS4/XBone, including Gyakushuu! Youma Daikessen. I tested their BIN/CUE file for a couple minutes in an outdated ePSXe build I have on my PC, and the game seems to work just fine, so if you're still having trouble, try another emulator.

Unfortunately, you have to come to expect that not every game is perfect, and this terribleness would sometimes cause games to stay in the area from whence they came. Add to that the trouble they'd go through of not only translating all the text of Kitaro into English, but getting an at least semi-talented voicecast to read the text out loud as the characters saying the words.
