As a left handed shooter I have to disagree with a lot of this, having owned several guns cast right handed. There is a tendency / need to tilt your head over the rib to get your eye straight down the rib with all guns cast right handed, sure you can lift your head higher to make it easier but then you can end up to high down the rib and miss everything over... even guns that are relatively straight , mk38 as an example , would mean doing that, i can only see straight down the rib and keep my eyes level using a true left cast gun ... even the picture of your left mount on this vid you have your eyes slightly tilted to line your left eye up down the rib..

@@AlexSDU There are a few bullpup rifles where the left-handed configuration ejects from the left (because otherwise the shooter would be getting the casings or even the bolt handle into their teeth.) At least Stery AUG and Tavor have such left-handed parts available.

Sure gun fit is key, but being left handed the top lever on most guns is a bit more awkward for lefties. Also semi autos most are right handed throwing spent cartridges out across your face and having the bolt and having to load right handed, until you use a left handed gun you dont realise the comprises you have already made and had to get used to

Well if you're a left handed shooter trying to shoot a gun with a cast off stock, you're going to have a real hard time getting your eye to line up with the barrel. Sure you can do it with a bit of contortion but you'll never shoot your best. Almost all double barreled shotguns have cast off stocks. So as a lefty you will need either a neutral stock which are rare in the double barrel world, or one that's cast on.

For break action, yes, the handedness matters less. For bolt, pump, and lever, and semi auto... the gun's handedness definitely matters. Between the safety, action, and cartridge ejection... it can pose awkwardness in movement and potential safety risks.

Almost gave up thinking i was just a crap shot. Sold the beretta bought a left handed invictus completely changed everything! Everything! So no I don’t agree with any of this.

Which eye is your dominant eye? Extend your hand with your thumb covering an object. close your left eye. If you are still covering the object, you are right eye dominant. If the object is uncovered, you are left eye dominant. you should shoot to have your dominant eye closest to the rifle. Your non-dominant eye will remain open to observe the field while aiming with the dominant eye.

Really improved a lot for me when I switched to LH gun...I always feel shops like to sell you a "neutral" gun because they have them in store. Another thing...yes the gun is unloaded but please take your finger off the trigger by default. An instructor doing this really gives me the cringe.
@14goldmedals
@14goldmedals 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! *Off target=Off trigger, On target=On trigger* I drilled that motto into over one hundred armed guards that I trained from novices to being qualified to carry sidearms publicly in Canada. Of course training included many other things such as weapon retention, but the number one rule was unless you're pointing/aiming at a threat that finger better be off the trigger and on the frame or trigger guard. I'd like to add that I'm a lefty and have never been able to buy a Beretta O/U shotgun because they do cast off their buttstocks. I own a Browning 725 Sporting with adjustable comb and I can shoot it well. But I did see the same model advertised without the adjustable comb as LH so I went and tried it for fit at the store. I was amazed that it fit perfectly! It was a real a-ha moment for me as a shooter for nearly fourty years now. So to my fellow lefties don't settle for a gun that you have to wrestle to fit you, seek out LH guns and I see the odd Beretta LH advertised so before I'm too damn old I may just be able to buy one and enjoy it!

Great explanation! The problem arises when your left handed and all your kids and grandkids are right handed. Many of the older guns were neutral cast out of the box, but not today. Benellis seem to be set with rt hand cast and yes they can be changed to left hand cast. However the "great" Benelli does NOT offer the few shims needed to make it neutral cast. Hummmm it should be noted here the more reasonably priced Mossberg 940 comes with shims for right, left, or neutral cast.

We went dove hunting with my right handed roommate walking on my left to sweep from right to left and I sweeping from left to right from the centerline. In the event a cartridge explodes in the chamber aren't barrels designed to rupture back and to the right? This being the reason why an instructor shouldn't stand off the right shoulder of a shooter. That is a far more dangerous position for a left handed shooter as it would put the head and face much closer to the explosion direction. Wouldn't a left handed gun would have the barrel designed to blow the opposite way to a right handed gun?

This guy is a little full of himself. Sure a lefty CAN shoot a right handed. Sure fit is important but ergonomics make a difference too. On a true left hand o/u the breach lever pushes away from the shooter to the LEFT side of the gun. That way you don’t have to rotate the grip in you hand to push the lever back toward the right as with a right handed shotgun. May seem like a little thing but but little things add up over time.

Being a lefty I recently made a discovery concerning barrel selection on the Browning Citori. I normally shoot the Citori for sporting clays, and am in the habit of shooting bottom barrel first. Hunting grouse I had a Cyl choke in the bottom barrel with 1 oz of steel #4 shot, and I.M. in the top barrel with a Remington #2 HD load. I was hoping to maybe spot a low flying goose as they have been travelling between fields . Unexpectedly , a grouse flushed. { How else do grouse flush ? } I slid the safety forward , and unintentionally to top barrel position . Out went a load of 1 3/8 oz. Remington HD non tox . The tight pattern didn't have much distance to open up . After an obvious miss there was the thought that I shan't shoot top barrel as the pattern will be too tight. So I held fire. Upon opening the action to reload I discovered indeed, the top barrel had been discharged by mistake, and was confusedly trying to process the why. That's when the second grouse flushed. Being essentially in the process of navel gazing over the barrel selection matter, that grouse also happily sailed away unscathed . The Citori was in my hands still cracked open. And two normally happy Labs were giving me dirty looks. The moral of this long winded tale is for this lefty the top barrel will now be first barrel when hunting. A true left hand Citori would have the barrel selector reversed.

On over and unders with left-handed does the way you break the gun is it not different direction? Cuz if I pick up a right-handed going to break it I have to push the break leaver,, and some models with a longer brake stroke are harder to push over,, I'm kind of new to over and unders and have yet to hold a lefthanded one but I believe that would make a huge difference

Depending on the application, left vs. right-hand CAN make a difference in autoloaders, especially in tactical situations manipulating the gun efficiently as possible under stress. Is a left-handed gun NEEDED even then? Absolutely not (not unless you're endeavoring to compete at the highest level of 3-gun). Can a left-handed shotgun make a southpaw quicker and more efficient, sometimes, yes. At least marginally. There is also the matter of preference concerning shells shooting across or away from your face (when it comes to semi-autos). I am a right-handed/left-eye dominant shooter, and I prefer right-handed shotguns that I can adjust for left-handed shooting (and I don't care much about the direction of the shotshells). Not all guns comes with shims, however, or even have them available at all aftermarket or otherwise (e.g. Winchester SX4, CZ Drake). But for break actions, you're exactly right. Another consideration, whether we're talking about shotguns, rifles, and pistols is the rare situation where a catastrophic malfunction occurs. In these situations, usually having the chamber facing away from your face is safer than not. Again, these issues are rare which is why manufacturers still sell right-handed guns with reversible manual safeties for left-handed shooters, but accidents/negligence does happen (especially when handloading). So you're right for the most part, especially considering break actions, but you're not completely right especially when it comes to semi-autos. So I would refrain from saying it makes absolutely no difference at all. That's not true, but the differences are overstated in most situations (but not for all).

My son loved the gun - I had trouble due to the palm swell. I ended up with a very bruised and bloody middle finger on my left hand after every round. I spent another $3400 to purchase my own Miroku ML11 left hand version. From the very first shot it was comfortable, I hit targets and no finger damage. Rule number 1. Never point a gun at anyone unless you are willing to pull the trigger. Rule number 2. Never put the barrel of the gun in the dirt, nor on the end of your foot. Also your opinion of left handed or right handed is not correct in my opinion. Sure you don't need a left handed gun to shoot. but as for left handed or left eyed individuals, it makes it so much easier to have a gun specifically built to accommodate for the differences in shooting. other then the safety problems and differences in gun preference, id say you now a thing or to about shooting and your Knowledge was good for the most part.

The problem as a left handed person isn't aiming down the sights it is getting hit in the face by ejecting cartridge. Shotguns and Pistols are fine but AR-15s or AKs bug the shit out of me because I am always expecting to get hit by a cartridge. Is there a way to mitigate that? I shot a ACR Bushmaster that ejects somewhere other than the right side of the gun (I forget where on the ACR) that was nice.
