The paint and pouring medium mixtures is generally the most expensive part of acrylic pouring. There are some ways to reduce the amount of paint you use in your fluid art and help you save some money.
1. Use thinner paint - Keep in mind this will make your paint mix mour are you won't get as many solid colors.
2. Use a spinner - Using a spinner lets you spread out your paint as much as possible. You will always get a inside-out / starburst look when you use a spinner like this.
3. Manually apply your base coat - this allows you to not let as much paint drip of your canvas for the initial application of paint.

@LeftBrainedArtist I am so excited to start doing acrylic pours! I am a resin artist and have always loved to paint! Be it houses with my husband or on canvases and I am actually about to start making content and am at the beginning of my journey, Would you be okay with me linking some of your videos as tips for others/mentioning you in my videos? My first piece I'm sharing as content will be a hybrid of a acrylic pour and resin. So many of your videos have really helped me figure out the colors, mediums and how to not make mud! Lol now I just have to get up the gusto to actually pour! Thank you so much! 💓

I use an offset spatula to apply my basecoat. Extra paint on it can be re-applied to the canvas, or scraped back into the cup, and it's a LOT easier to clean than thick paintbrush bristles!

Thank you so much David ☺️ I've been watching pourer after pourer and it seems that they always leave out an important bit of information or a step so you do have to do their course to actually achieve anything with decent results. I have learnt SOOOOOO many different tid bits of extremely useful information also you explain EVERYTHING! you don't leave me at the end of any of your tutorials wondering 'what the Nora did he do there?'🤔 unfortunately just after discovering LBA I broke both my wrists so over the 6 week period where I actually can't do myself I've been watching David - tutorial after tutorial after tutorial - and in 3 weeks time (yes half way through)👍 I will be set and much more confident in my approach. I've started preparing the little things I can while waiting like printing pdf etc. All u can say is thank you so much as before I became incapacitated I already was improving and with what I've learnt while also being entertained I feel I will be able to achieve some of the styles I've been trying for 3 years now😊👍

This speaks to my soul, thank you so much for making this video, David. I love watching many YT pouring artists, but I've always been rather uneasy watching the amount of paint I see _some_ just wasting - apparently without a second thought. 😱 Some artists get paint and other supplies sent to them by PRs, or receive affiliate credit via their viewers at art outlets. *I don't remotely begrudge them that at all,* it just means their supplies are at least partly covered, so they don't have to be _quite_ as cautious with how much paint goes in the bin! 😳 I think perhaps they don't always quite remember how expensive paint can be for those buying it out of the household budget.

So true. I also try to save as much as possible on those big pours by scooping it up or using the drying skins as cabachon jewelry or bookmarks.

The second one was my favorite esthetically, I like lots of color, everywhere 😁 but still, saving 20% of your pint using the spinner is great! @LeftBrainedArtist

Oh, don't add medium to pre-mixed paint. It should be fine how it is. Some are even a little too thin and you want to leave them out for a few hours to thicken up (let some water evaporate).

For small canvases I don’t. The silicone mat acts like glue and keeps it on. You can use double sided tape or put some paint on the under side of the frame where it touches the spinner too but that also makes more mess/clean-up.

Hi there this does not have anything to do with this video.. I just have a question that I think you might be able to help me with. When the paint recipes appear as 65% paint, 20% Gloss Medium, 15% water. How does that translate in ounces, or grams? Your help will be much appreciated.
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
Take the total amount you want to make of that color. Say 2 ounces. Then multiple each part. So 2 * .65 you get 1.3 oz paint. 2 * .2 you get .4 ounces gloss medium. 2 * .15 you get .3 ounces water. Just to make sure you can add your totals back up 1.3 + .4 + .3 and you get your total 2 ounces. same thing goes for grams but you'd says I need 60 grams and multiply by 60 instead of 2.
