I was the Transport Officer at Omega in 1976 if I remember the year correctly during a 3 month border camp. Bob was a member of 4 Maintenance unit at that stage. What he says brings back wonderful memories.

I can relate to Bob's story about appropriating spares for the Mercedes 911 truck. On one my trips to Rundu from Omega the radiator of the Mercedes packed in. We managed to limp into Rundu by stopping every now and then for the engine to cool, pour whatever liquid we could spare into the radiator (I'll let you imagine the type of liquid). On asking the Tiffie store in Rundu for a spare radiator, we were met with a wall of laughter. Anyway, as Bob says, 'n boer maak 'n plan. During the day we had spotted on old Mercedes refrigerator truck in the US park. Under cover of darkness armed with a torch and a couple of vice grips, we swapped radiators and made a hasty return to Omega.

I still remember the time of handing out the brand new R4 packed in plastic bag with oil covering it to Bushman, and then returning it for having R1 back.

Can relate to this man. The training of Spykers people followed the same process. Was looking after the logistics for the training basis and ops teams. Rule in ops area, if a vehicle was unattended in bush you recover it and it is yours. In Grootfontein ( Belofte Fontein) we had always a great run to source equipment.
