Legacy Conversations - Special Forces Questions and Answers (Episode 2)

We have three retired South African Special Forces members with us answering viewer questions. Lt Col Douw Steyn, author of “Iron Fist from the Sea” (with Arne Söderlund). Major Jack Greeff, author of “A Greater Share of Honour” and Small Team expert. Lastly, Col Frans Fourie, 1 Reconnaissance Regiment Commander. Together they have more than 50 years of experience and all hold the Honoris Crux Medal (for valour). One of the many questions they answer is what automatic rifle they prefer in African operations and which handgun for self-defence at home. Another is if the “gym types” will make Special Forces Selection… Yet another is about hygiene behind enemy lines. It is a captivating conversation that will continue with follow up episodes. I knew Douw Steyn personally while with Masonite who employed COIN Security (with Douw working for them) to do our Estcourt Manufacturing facility. I recall a bridge that Douw blew in Angola - deployed by strike craft and then land ops. All very fascinating Special Forces ops. Thanks, guys.

Excellent as always..enjoyed the interview..i was always thinking about that raid in Umtata i think it was there. ..It made sense as at that stage that area was a foereign country as it was not part of south africa.So therefore that spec forces could attack it..Well done Koos and all the operators for excellent answers.

Remember the day the photograph with the whales behind Douw was taken clear as daylight. Those two humpback whales, mother and calf, stayed with us for hours and just wouldn't leave. Really messed with the programme.

Thankyou gentlemen for your time, once again riveting stuff. During clandestine operations, did any of you come across or use the British Welrod, probably Mk1, silenced pistol, I have heard Rhodesian SAS talk about them, but never specifically, a very silent weapon and designed primarily for assassination, but certainly would have a role in small team operations.In 70's and 80's I don't think there were quieter weapons in 9mm?? Thankyou.

Simple question..low technology assets like dogs?Highly proficient intelligent dog breeds -if these were used by the enemy,how to escape and evade../how does this impact surveillance in operations where dogs are utilised?although it’s known that SWAPO,Cubans,MPLA never used them ..thanks
