Based on their most recent ruling, here's just one "fun" paradox that the SCOTUS has now allowed for: 1. The Constitution (in plain text) gives the President alone the power to hand out pardons for federal crimes (an official act). 2. The Constitution (in plain text) clearly lists bribery (a crime) as one specific reason that a President can be impeached, and removed from office for. 3. A President may now accept a bribe (a crime) for a pardon (an official act) ... and even if they were 100% House impeached, 100% Senate convicted, and then tossed out of office and politics forever ... that President, that person non-grata ... that criminal ... may NEVER be prosecuted for the crime that they were impeached for. I don’t know if taking the bribe would be considered an official duty. Issuing the pardon might be an official act. Still the ruling means the president can violate the law when issuing official orders. He could position the national guard in an area with protesters and order an attack on the protesters with the slightest provocation, like someone threw a bottle at the guard, and he could not be prosecuted for the resulting deaths.

It means the president isn't obligated by law to give lawful orders. He is a law unto himself. However, the UCMJ says that military personnel are obligated to obey lawful orders. I presume up until now that military personnel would expect to receive lawful orders because the president is subject to the same high order of justice, but now the Supreme Court has explicitly said that he is not necessarily subject to the law of the land. So what law is the U.S. military subject to? When the president gives an order, is that a new law? Do they mean the laws passed by Congress? States? Whose law is the military subject to? What about the civilians serving the executive branch? Whose law do they have to follow?

Unlike the police, congress, FBI and other organizations, there was no immunity for a president's actions while in office after he left. The court also strengthened the separation of powers envisioned by the founders when they formed the three separate branches of government, the legislative, the executive and the judiciary. The founders required that these three branches of government be separate. Our democracy has been strengthened.

If you read the ruling you’ll find it’s the opposite. It declared quite clearly that such an act is something he is immune against. Asking the DOJ to investigate someone is a clear and obvious official act. Asking them to investigate an opponent like you argue is however illegal. But now he is immune if he makes an illegal official act! Although now a POTUS have even more effective ways to deal with an opponent than having to find a corrupt AG, corrupt investigators, a corrupt prosecutor, a corrupt grand jury majority, a few corrupt judges, an unanimous corrupt jury, 5 corrupt justices, and a corrupt House majority or 1/3 Senate, to make it happen.
