@@jestfullgremblim8002 Yeah, it was a thing indeed. I used to do it wtih my siblings. We owned one copy of super circuit so if you did wireless play with those who didn't have copies, they played as Yoshi exclusively and you could only play the Mushroom Cup tracks. Same applied to DS only the other players got to play as the multiplayer exclusive Shy guy, who had perfectly balanced stats. It was common in the GBA days like Sonic Advance 1 and 2 had a multiplayer where in Download, you collect the most rings in a unique stage (and the characters chosen were based on player order so P2 was always Tails, P3 Knuckles, and P4 was either Amy in SA1 or Cream in SA2), but with multi cart multiplayer, you could race each other on actual stages. Ironically Sonic Advance 3 didn't have multiplayer at all.

When I was a kid playing Mario Kart 64 for the first time, I remember sucking as every single character, but then when I selected Wario, I began dominating and constantly doing a lot better than I previously had, so I constantly picked him from then on, so I feel accomplished that I was able to do so well with the "worst character" in Mario Kart 64. :D

That’s super wholesome, and I feel this! I had a similar thing happen to me too! Back when Smash 3DS first came out, there was this one guy I couldn’t beat at school. No matter what character I played, it didn’t matter. Then I got Samus in random, and all of a sudden I was destroying this guy! I learned way later that Samus was like hella bottom tier in Smash 4 up until the very final patch of the game’s lifespan.

A few notes on MK8DX. 1. Baby tracks exist, where the speed stat is trash. (this is very nuanced though, and is almost 200cc only now or completely gone.) 2. Because of the handling stat, Baby Peach/Baby Daisy have held more world records than Baby Rosalina/Lemmy. Those are all of my nitpicks. Another thing, you ended up picking the correct tires, as Metal tires have a +2 invincibility stat over gold tires (due to the balance patches.)

In Mario Kart Wii, the stat priorities should go like this. 1st: Speed 2nd: Drift 3rd: Weight 4th: Mini-Turbo 5th: Acceleration 6th: Off-Road 7th (Last): Handling We all know the Flame Runner is the best vehicle in the game since it's fast, heavy, and has good drift (the three most important stats in the game) and is an inside drifting bike. To find the worst vehicle in Mario Kart Wii, I'll have to reverse engineer that philosophy. The worst vehicle in the game is slow, light, and has bad drift. It must either be a Kart or an outside drifting bike, so this automatically eliminates the inside drifting bikes (the Bullet Bike, the Quacker, the Magikruiser, the Jet Bubble, the Mach Bike, the Sneakster, the Dolphin Dasher, the Flame Runner, and the Spear). First, let's find all vehicles from the twenty-seven options that are slow for their respective size classes. Absolute Banger Kai, been waiting for this, a few opinions here. For Mario Kart 64, I'd argue that Luigi is the worst, due to drifting being more important then handling for going fast in 64. Luigi would then be the worst due to him having lower weight then Mario. But still it's personal perference they both suck anyways. For Mario Kart Wii, I'd rank the Booster Seat as worse then the Nanobike, because with a bike atleast you can wheelie to offset the speed imbalance, it also has little to no speed loss when turning in a wheelie. Then I'd pick Toad, because acceleration and drift make little to no difference on a vehicle that turns like ASS and already has close to max accel in the first place, whereas Baby Mario is fighting for his life to stay on the track in the first place. In terms of character combo for 8DX, you're correct in picking Baby Peach and Rosalina. However with WORST CHARACTER? I'd give that out to Baby Mario's weight class, as Baby Daisy did manage to score a world record on Donut Plains 3 200CC. So atleast she has some merit to her. Tiny discrepencies, that's all. Keep on making gold.

Yeah, simply the worst characters are the ones with the worst items (and multipliers) so the Common tier characters with Bubble are the worst. Bubble is the only special item that not only doesn't give you points, but even prevents you from getting points by actually racing as well, so it's self sabotage.

A few notes on MKWii. 1. The Bit Bike isn't the lightest combo in the game. The Quacker is. 2. Drift is considered to be far more important than mini-turbo. (hence why the Phantom sucks) 3. Bit Bike, which you considered the worst vehicle in the game actually had a world record for a long time due to it having important stats in that category. 4. Although bad for online play, Baby Mario is the most common lightweight in world records. 5. Bit Bike is one of the lightest vehicles in the game, but has similar weight to the Bullet Bike and the Magikruiser. 6. The drift stat is so important that an otherwise balanced vehicle like the Phantom becomes absolute garbage. I honestly think that the Baby Booster/Booster Seat is the worst combo in the game just because it can't wheelie.

Notes: Drift style is far more important than the drift stat. Also, having more than a certain amount of drift has diminishing returns. Mini Turbo does not have diminishing returns.

(Retro Rewind, where it also affects drift stat). All high speed, high drift vehicles are good. (Especially on DK Mountain and Snes Mario Circuit 3.)

Wheelie is obviously meant to have a huge disadvantage in how bumping is costly, but when you're that close anyway items are a greater worry. I love karts in Wii, absolutely. Mostly designs. But I've never played a single track where the stronger mini turbo mattered more than wheelies. Add to that inside drifting and even without Flame Runner Wii is a bikes only game for serious players.

The best thing about MK7 is that acceleration doesn’t matter at all due to a technique called Delay Drifting/SSMTs. Essentially, all you have to do after getting hit is hop after a second, and right before you hit the ground, move your CPad to start a drift. You’ll be back up to top speed instantly

As a MK7 player myself, I'm surprised you nailed that part because a lot of times people dont know much about the game due to the lack of interest. But yeah for anyone wondering, every other class at least has some use cases. Small for battles and high accel combos, lightweight like yoshi for underwater, medium for small hitbox + glich categories and heavies ofc for max ground speed. Cruiser is just fully outclassed. The worst character in Mario Kart SNES is actually Bowser because of a recurring Mario Kart mechanic, the Rivals and also a SNES exclusive mechanic CPU items. So every character in the game has 2 Rivals and every CPU has special items they'll pull randomly that the player can't obtain. Bowser suffers the most from this mechanic specifically because Bowser's Rivals are both the Mario Bros and both the Mario Bros special item is the Star. This means the 2 computers that are programmed to pressure you the most have the strongest CPU items in the entire game and they can pull them in any place. This makes winning games as Bowser feel virtually impossible at times because the Rivals, there's only 2 other characters that have to deal with 1 of the Mario Bros, Luigi's 2nd rival is Mario and Koopa's primary rival is Luigi (this is also what makes Toad the unequivocal best character in SNES because Toad doesn't have to worry about the Mario Bros.) Poor Bowser has to deal with the 2 most dangerous CPUs in the entire game alongside some piss poor handling so avoiding the sparkly bros will prove to be an exercise in futility

For Double Dash, the Koopa King is NOT the worst kart, it has a bad mini turbo like all heavy karts but has the best speed. The worst kart is the Boo Pipes for how slow it is. The worst characters would be Petey Piranha and King Boo. Yes, they can use all special items but that's a double edged sword because you can still get the less useful special items (especially Giant Bananas)

I feel like it's not right to rank what the worst character/vehicle is based on how well they can execute speedrun strats, especially since the majority of Mario Kart players are mostly just casual players who aren't actively competing for World Records. I think it would have been best to give two options in that scenario: one that's the worst for standard/casual gameplay, and one that's the worst specifically for speedrunning and competitive gameplay.

Technically the caveat is that if you're playing casual, then this video technically "isn't for you" as he pointed out, the characters that are the worst are particularly the worst at the stats that are most important for winning races, but if your goal isn't to actually win, then the worst is purely subjective... like you hate Queen Bee because she...'s just some giant NPC from Mario Sunshine that stole Birdo's slot as a playable character. XD Super Circuit though seemed to objectively be the worst since Yoshi doesn't give those GP points, and while you could argue the Bobomb is the worst item in Double Dash (as well as the heart), I personally find the Bowser Shell was often likely to come barreling back towards me since you can't launch it backwards, unlike the bob-omb (plus the bobomb mode in battle mode is so much fun!). Wario isn't likely to ever be blown up by his own bomb, but I've been hit countless times by Bowser's own shell. and throw the Bowser shell at DK's giant banana..... yeah... (for those who don't know, it'll bounce RIGHT back into your face). I'd give the edge to Bowser being the worst.

I’m genuinely quite glad to see why playing MK8 felt so weird to me after spending hours for months playing Wii. My go tos as a kid were baby Peach/Daisy with the bullet bike, which I had no IDEA is actually considered one of the best combos next to Funky+Bowser bike. I didn’t want to give up on my childhood mains, so I would try to play them in 8 and they just felt SO different and outclassed. Even if the stat changes are minute in the grand scheme, I feel vindicated!!!

There are a couple things I want to say. I think speed, miniturbo AND acceleration are the most important stats in mk8dx. Since there are 2 main strategies, bagging and frontrunning. For bagging (staying back to get good items and make a comeback), you need high speed to catch up faster. For frontrunning, acceleration and miniturbo are the most important with invincibility and speed being second most important. So the worst combo should have low stats on at speed acceleration and miniturbo, not only that it'd also have to be an inside drift bike since they cannot get purple miniturbos and most small time saving shortcuts cannot be done with sinside drift. For mkwii, a bike cannot be in the worst combination. Inside drift and wheelies make bikes straight up better than cars. Acceleration is probably one of the least important stats since if you hold both forward and brake you get a miniturbo wich gets you to top speed far faster than high acceleration Thst means the worst combination is toad on the booster seat

The heart has it's niche, but unlike Mario Kart Tour, it's PAINFULLY rare in Mario Kart Double Dash, and due to the nature of the item pool in that game, most players are throwing single greens, single reds or bananas around as only Koopa and Paratroopa (and Petey and King Boo) can get triple shells (not that they'd protect you from all three) and it doesn't protect you from transformation collision like Stars or Chain Chomp. The best thing it can do is block a Blue shell, but... good luck getting in first place with one. Fire balls at least act as a pseudo triple shell with how common they are, but you're right, they are lousy. I personally rate Bowser shell worse though... at least if you hit yourself wtih your own fireballs, you just spin out and carry on. Bowser shell though... and you can only throw it forwards so you can't even use it to keep people off your tail.

Worst item depending on skill and preferred shortcuts has to be Chain chomp. Odd choice I know but hear me out. Chain chomp takes control away from you. You move faster and mow down everything in your path, but you yourself are swaying left and right as your character is holding on to chain chomp with its rampage. The number of times I've regretted using it as I'm left at a bad angle or just in front of a banana or something made me avoid using it unlesa I had to. Star is better any day, and thankfully Bullet Bill fixes most flaws with chain chomp. Bobombs can spawn while you're first, and they are great both for defense and offense. I'll give you heart might be underwhelming, but it lasts as long as you don't get hit. IOW, using both well is skill issue. I'm surprised a Wario Peach combo is the worst when it was my main. Then again, I use that combo because I'm picking faves more than anything.

I understand what you are talking about, and as a Mario Kart player, it is always important to understand their strengths and weaknesses. Also, seeing Baby Peach being the worst character in MK8 Deluxe hurts my soul cause she is one of my mains alongside Luigi, Daisy, Link, Isabelle, Diddy Kong and sometimes Donkey Kong. But I noticed she will suck if you give her the worst kart combination, so I understand that clearly. By the way, I love Mario Kart Double Dash, for it was the first Mario Kart game, and seeing that combination you talked about is disgusting. I hate using the Koopa King kart cause it has a bad recovery if you get hit. Plus, Wario and Waluigi, in my opinion, have the worst special item cause of how dangerous and risky it is. At least Peach and Daisy's special item isn't bad and sometimes you get lucky getting it when you are between 4th to 2nd. The best special item is basically Pety Piranha and King Boo cause they can copy all the characters special items. Not to mention I love using Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong in Double Dash cause basically you can set good traps with their huge banana peel and mostly the Ai is always dumb enough to fall for it. Plus, I have seen so many people use Yoshi a lot in MK8 Deluxe with the teddy bear bike combo with the small blue or red wheels so I'm guessing he's the best character with the best combination from I'm seeing and thinking.

Same, Double Dash and DS are mine. Controversial as it sounds, I like the risk/reward nature of Snaking as anyone can do it and doing it often leaves you vulnerable in a competitive race to messing up and crashing. What holds MK8 back despite being the most balanced is how much items matter where the majority of online players "sandbag". No other Mario Kart game was sandbagging a dominant strategy. it was a risky one, but you weren't going from 12th to first reliably like you do in MK8 Deluxe. Heck I'll take boost hopping over bagging anyday. If items are going to determine who wins or loses, I might as well just play Mario Party and turn off minigames.

Good video! I've been playing Mario Kart for decades and I've always been curious about this topic. I didn't know Mario or Luigi were the worst in Super Mario Kart. I actually struggled the most in Super Mario Kart using Yoshi or Peach as I never could get enough speed (even with 10 coins) and the 150cc CPU players just seem to leave them in the dust! Bowser definitely is a force to be reckoned with in Super Mario Kart once you get the controls down, but he takes a lot of skill to use. Bowser is the only character I can completely smoke the CPU players. I didn't realize they did Yoshi so dirty in Super Circuit! I _never_ could get 3-Star ranks with Toad, Peach or Yoshi. I now know why I usually stuck with Bowser for getting good ranks! 😅

For double dash I’d say the worst combo is petey and king boo in the bowser off-roader. The reason why is for all the kart reasons you stated, the fact petey takes up so much space regardless of position, and both of their specials are randomized from the others. Peach and daisy’s special is bad (because you cannot get it while in the running. You have to be middle of the pack or worse), but it has its uses defensively and offensively (as you can say, run into the bowser shell intentionally. It doesn’t work on blue shell though).

If your metrics are purely based on a single player experience, where you’re just looking at raw stats and not accounting for item usage, the judgement for Super Mario Kart seems like a good pick. However, I feel like things get more complicated if we take enemy cpu item usage into account, because *specifically* in Super Mario Kart, CPU’s tend to spam items themed around their character. Donkey Kong jr has bananas, yoshi has the exclusive Egg Drop which acts like a banana, Bower has shells, but if there’s one or two characters that you definitely don’t want to face against, it’s Mario and Luigi. They spam Stars like crazy and with how bad the rubber banding ai is in this game, you have to be a god at the game to be able to even keep up, much less actually beat them, especially on harder difficulties.

The baby booster is definitely worse than the bit bike. The bit bike has wheelies so is substantially faster on the majority of tracks. A vehicle with minimum stats but access to wheelies would probably be about as good as the baby booster, it’s probably the worst Mario kart vehicle ever.

I have to disagree with 2 parts of the mk8dx combo and its the fact that jet bike is almost definitely worse than steel driver and monster tires are worse than gold and metal under most circumstances considering the disadvantages of using them being destroying the ability to do air hops into drifts because those tire make you bounce after using any ramp

Interesting in every game except 8 Deluxe.... I saw a video of a guy doing that as a personal challenge and after a few races where he just wasn't getting close to top seed, he just went back to cheese strats like bagging. Ultimately proving that game doesn't require skill at all. At least the other games don't rely on item luck and short cut memorization to win. actual technique matters.

I would argue the Bob-omb is a worse special item than the heart. Sure hearts are rare and they seem to only show up when you're far behind and need some aggressive items, but the Bob-omb actively hinders you half of the time. They pop constantly when you're around 4th place or so and if you get hit by a lightning while holding a Bob-omb it explodes on you causing you to take longer to recover from lightning and most of the time you end up facing the wrong way on the track so it takes even longer to recover.

You can throw them backwards for a really good defense. and generally you're not hitting yourself with a Bobomb. I'd actually argue Bowser Shell is the worst because it's very easy to hit yourself with it if you throw it in tight cooridors, since you can only throw it forward. Chain Chomp is also quite overrated....

I don't think Tour would be that difficult to work out. You would essentially have to find the characters that get no additional boosts on the most courses, and then after that, if there are multiple characters on the same or similar amount of courses they don't get a boost on, look at the special items (lord help any character with the bubble)

I could’ve sworn R.O.B. was tied with Bowser as the heaviest character in MKDS. Tbh, I thought the entire reason we saw him in the character select screen was because Kai was about to nominate them both as the worst character. Still, his frame is smaller than Bowser’s, so if it was a matter of who obstructs the screen more, Bowser would still be worse.

For Wii, I'd say the Booster Seat is worse than the Bit Bike. Wheelies are broken in Wii, so the Bit Bike has a significant speed advantage in straightaways

Bit bike being able to wheelie makes it better than the booster seat, while booster seat can snake and get red mts that last forever. Slowest character I think is Toad. I think baby Mario has speed, but he has weight which is better for being in the air

On MK64, the worst one is definitely Luigi by a landside. He has the slowest acceleration and weight compared to Wario and other heavyweights, and less weight compared to Mario, which is a middleweight. The list goes by this 1 - Yoshi/Peach 3 - Toad 4 - Bowser 5 - DK 6 - Wario 7 - Mario 8 - Luigi

I would argue that Yoshi and Birdo are the worst characters in Double Dash because their special is just a red shell that drops powerful items on the field for other racers to pick up, and there aren't really any standout medium-class karts. Baby Mario and Luigi are also pretty bad, with their special being mediocre and only available to them in 6th place or below, but they can at least benefit from a variety of good karts. The Heavy racers all get somewhat-decent specials and have some slightly better options in unlockable karts.

I think you messed up really badly in the Double Dash one. The Heart Power does protect you from Red Shells, which is quite potent, there is still a benefit for using it. We want something which has no benefit. Toad, Toadette, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi all have this in their Special which is only obtainable when you're trailing behind which is further amplified as bad by King Boo and Petey who can access all of them. This means that you will be down useful items when you're around 4th, where you rely on speed to catch up. 1st place is the goal. While yes the Koopa King has flaws, it is still fast, the biggest weakness of it is Acceleration and its Big Frame correct? Having a power which outright stops you from getting hit circumvents this. You're also able to use this to catch up from when you're in 4th and stop getting as many good items where raw stats matter more. It also combos well with the Bomb item early in a race potentially letting you hit everyone. I tried to look up the drift types and I couldn't find any info classifying the karts with them, but we are looking for a slow one with the criteria for being bad on lightweights to optimize being bad.

Huh. Today I learned that my MK8 and Deluxe main that I routinely kick ass with isn't very good. Waluigi/Rosalina on the Jet Bike with Slim Tires. I feel I can be more precise with the inside drift. I guess unless you're in the top tier of competitive players, what works for you and feels more comfortable is better than copying the meta.

On a statistical level, the Bit Bike may seem like the worst in mario kart wii, but it's important to note that it is, without a doubt, better than it's counterpart. The bit bike can wheelie, automatically making it massively faster than the booster seat on straight lines by a very significant amount. Bikes in general, aside from possibly the phantom, are just better than karts. The booster seat is likely the worst vehicle in mario kart wii, then.

It seems that now, in mk8dx, at least in time trials, mini turbo is more than twice as worth speed, so bowser is actually worse. The bittybuggy (compared to teddy buggy trades 2 speed for 1 more mini turbo) has half of the 96 world records in this game, and it is what a lot of top players use. So i would say bowser is the worst in mk8dx. He sacrifices every other stat for a speed stat, and funky kong is objectively better.

I'm actually surprised that a bike got worst vehicle ranking at all in Wii. Bikes in Wii had the completely broken wheely that made them edge out most karts at straight roads. It's so broken that bikes never got them back after Wii even though inside drifting came back (albeit more balanced). If anyone picked a kart for any reason, it's just to flex. With their only use being specific time trial tricks, karts in a Mario Kart game were the clear worst choice for anyone looking to win. And yet Wii actually is my fave despite all these flaws. Go figure.

The Heart is so op in Double Dash, you literally get double protection with a single item and while being in 1st place, you can also steal any item you want. Also Baby Peach and Baby Daisy are the best characters in Battle mode in 8DX

​@@generaljf7233 not to mention that if you do block an item, you can use it in your favor AND it gives you a larger pick up radius for items like mushrooms or stars that are lying on the track, which situationally can be a downside but on tracks like rainbow road its pretty nuts the only real downside here is that you get it relatively rarely, but ironically enough if paired with other racers this isnt as much of an issue since youve got a second item slot to work with for more common specials a better contender for worst special would have been one of the fireballs since while theyre relatively common, they are extremely easy to block or otherwise dodge, only go in a straight line and because there are so many of them and they bounce off the track a bit are more likely to hit you than other items, including things like the bowser shell and bob ombs
