I have been a culinary intern at this buffet, and believe me, we really value quality and guest satisfaction. Like, we throw low quality foods (not necessarily spoiled) even if it will cost us huge losses. Also, sofitel spiral always have something extra to give, they do events, in the morning someine would sell taho (filipino delicacy) and walk around, someone rides a bicycle and goes around the buffet to deliver newspaper to anyone who wants it and we have this thing called "pass around" wherein we go around the buffet with samples of our foods which are not in the buffet itself and offer it to guests. And cmon spiral has it's own cheese room! And it is included in the buffet. I was an intern, and now, im a regular guest in this buffet 😂♥

For foreigners $60 is very cheap but for us Filipino sit's not really. 😆
@estoylaroca6 жыл бұрын
For foreigners it's cheap because of the ridiculous prices (as a fellow filipino) you guys have! Other country's buffet prices are justified since you guys also have a higher minimum wage / wage than Filipinos. Even cashiers and janitors make much more money in the US than those office workers in the Philippines. But yes viewing it in an international perspective, the buffet is ridiculously cheap for the quality and service that you can get. But viewing it from a Filipino perspective, it is definitely a luxury buffet, since we also have much more cheaper buffets, albeit it's more of a "specific" buffet rather than an "anything buffet" just like in this case. We have buffet specifically for chinese food, burgers, wings etc. ranging from $5-$10. Current trend is korean bbq buffet, which costs around an average of $10. They are all delicious and affordable, but you gotta take in mind that they were made for Filipinos, so the service might be slower, food quality not as great as that in Sofitel, but at the cost of $10? Specially if you're a foreigner? For sure it'll actually be worth it.

I’ve been here every chance I got to Manila. My girlfriend & I would feast on almost all of the dishes there. Some of them she wasn’t really familiar of (Italian meats & French cheeses) I’d let her know how they taste. Teppeyaki was our number one choice. Mike should’ve done a prosciutto, artichoke heart & beef cheek pizza with Irish goat cheese. That’s the pizza I always got when they had it. Expense-wise, for a local it’s expensive (& I do mean local, not OFW). OFW-wise, THIS IS A REASONABLE PRICE. Could you imagine if they had this in EU, US, or Dubai? They’d double the price.

In the F&B industry, Filipino hospitality and service is legendary. So legendary that they are all over the world, for example Dubai has tons of Filipinos and Dubai is a super rich city, hence it goes to say you wouldn't work there if you don't cut it, since they are rich enough to replace you anytime if you don't meet the mark.

From a Fijian perspective (country of less than their 1million people and GDP/capita of less than $4,000) this is very very very cheap for the qty and quality of the food offered. No Fiji resort/location would be able to pull this off. An avg buffet ranges from FJD 30 - 200 (USD 15 - 100) and the range is normally only a few seafood dishes, lovo, Indian and Chinese dishes and a few pasta's and salads. You'd be lucky to get anything else. The Philippines have a lot of things going for them to be able to produce and market these quality foods at such prices. Definetly a bucket list stop for me.
@afcgeo8825 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, Fiji is a bit overpriced due to its over-reliance on tourists, especially Australian tourists. It's getting to be similar to Bali. The Philippines aren't that popular with tourists yet, so visiting there is A LOT cheaper. However, it is much more dangerous in the Philippines for tourists and locals alike and there's not much in the world like the Mamanuca, Moala or Yasawa islands.
@beatriceyabut16255 жыл бұрын
Nice backhanded compliment lol
@brenmagtiza5 жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 an issue with the peace and order in the Muslim area in Southern Philipines doesn't make the whole country unsafe. Unless you want to venture into those off-limit zones due to security concern, you'd find yourself generally fine and intact. The problem with foreigners visiting the country is that they try to explore the areas that have been identified as "dangerous" e.g. southwestern Philippines with its Muslim-secessionist movement and/or red light districts where drugs, sex and crimes intertwined, and when bad things happen due to their recklessness and carelessness, they'd cry wolf when in fact, they just get what they deserved.
@afcgeo8825 жыл бұрын
Bren Magtiza I was actually meaning the crime issues in big cities (Manila, Cebu, etc.) because they specifically target the tourists, unlike in most countries’ big cities where criminals mostly target the locals. This is especially true of crimes against women. The Philippines are unfortunately still under-developed in their culture toward tourists and women and the police are unreliable and very often corrupt, even at the lowest levels
