Gale definitely deserves credit and is just as much the resident expert as much as Randy/Randy like characters. It's Gale who figured out the killing pattern in 2, who the killer is in 4, and is just as easily able to sense every trap and trick by 5 that Syd can. The fact that Syd willingly hands her a gun in 5...Gale is a final girl in her own right. Syd doesn't just HAND you a weapon

I agree! I got the chance to pass the torch, as it were, to my 12 year old this weekend. They had watched all the old movies and we watched 5 together. Was real worried, since 5 is much gorrier than the last few, but I had nothing to worry about. This kid was happy as hell watching all the blood and gore!

Gales evolution from "nosy bitch who could be the killer/could die and I wouldn't care" to an arguable hero in her own right has been one of the best things about Scream. Legit she could have died in 1 or 2 and I wouldn't have cared...but now. I really cannot see the series without her. Yes...YES...syd is EPIC. Love her to death. But the sisterhood she and Gale develop over the course of Scream is a real thing. She goes from not trusting her and punching her to trusting her enough to hand her a gun without question in scream 5. That is real.

It is actually quite tame in every category that horror movies go hard in. It isn’t that gorey, it isn’t that uncomfortably sexual, etc. Scream actually has amazing characters and plot. While other scary movies have shallow characters and a plot that either doesn’t make sense or is barely relevant, the Scream movies used well written dialogue and fun twists that keep you entertained.
