What a strong and powerful testimony. I'm glad that she spoke about her relationship with her body, about the impact that speaking up and seeing no consequences for this man had on her. I can relate to that. I applaud her also for presenting her experience in such a concrete and composed way and for daring to give a name. What people don't always realize is that on top of all the hurt and shame victims feel, they sometimes don't speak up because they don't want to ruin the life of their aggressor and their family. This is not a with hunt. It takes a lot of courage. Thank you Diana Nyad.

A friend of mine called me yesterday saying she was groped by her boyfriend's mother's boyfriend. She didn't want to tell her bf because she didn't want him to destroy the guy's car because thats not just touching his girlfriend but also cheating on his mother. She felt terrible, she blamed herself, said she shouldn't have popped into the house alone. "Why do women wait so long to come forward?" because they blame themselves instead of perverted predators who actually do wrong.

Certainly women can be loud & deflective but that doesn't mean they would not be targeted. This kind of language puts the blame on women, who obviously come from every type of background & could be the type to speak up but are outright silenced. If anyone points a finger stating "it's because of this..." point a finger at the behaviour of the perpetrator and abuse of power as to shove the full weight of accountability back to where it belongs.
