Absolutely NOT!! I have been buying these books for decades and it just hit me after watching the Little mermaid re-make amongst other movies that society has a problem with seeing a happy Black American couple who love and support one another on film and television. If they are placed together there must be tension and instability or the Black American male and/or female has a non-Black American counterpart or they simply leave out the Black American male all together. There’s definitely a racial bias and bigotry toward happy, loving, supportive Black American couples and strong Black American family structures in film, television and apparently literature. The lack of integrity for a dollar has ran rampant in my community!! Not buying another book that where the lead is a Black American male or female with a non-Black American counterpart!!! Is there some hidden rule where Black American men and women are not allowed to be love interest of one another? The hatred, envy and jealousy of a loving Black American couple is real!! We are no longer normalizing this bull$hit!!! Young Black American little boys and girls need to see themselves happy with one another!! MAKE US AND OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH ONE ANOTHER NORMAL OR LEAVE US ALONE!!!!

I just finished this last night! I was so presently surprised by all of the important conversations presented in this world. It was SO refreshing to read a fantasy book that didn't hide from complex topics. So brilliant. I can't wait for the next one.

I really liked it. I think I’ll like it even more a second time around because I felt a little impatient waiting between Bree’s sessions with Patricia because I was more interested in that magic system. Knowing how it turns out will probably make me not feel that impatience.

Hi Sam Thanks so much I was super confused during the live show so this helped a lot. I'm like Paige and have now gotten into Arthurian Legend thanks to the Camelot Riseing trilogy. This would be my first urban fantasy. How is the abuse and rape written? Is it told or shown? Appreciate you always answering my content questions. I have to be careful with TW's because of my anxiety,. It can be frusterating because now that my brain has accepted more of the fantastical my mental health has me on a short leash when it comes tofantasy reads.
@ThoughtsOnTomes3 жыл бұрын
Not a problem! The rape is alluded to, as it is rape within the context of slavery and doesn't happen to the main character. Same with the abuse. We hear about the after effects of the abuse that happened historically, but not it happening in real time.

@@ThoughtsOnTomes Cool thanks so much. I'm saving this for a tome tople and am so looking forward to it now that I understand the concept . In the same vain I know you loved Addie Lerue. It sounds so good but don't know if I should try it . Don't know if it would be too much. Read her middle grade and that scared me. The end of House of Salt and Sorrow re the stepmothers bargan gave me a book hangover so am conflicted about Addie.

I'm somewhat near the middle, but I'm really confused by the different titles. Pages, Merlins, etc. Can anyone explain pls> Thank you :)
@ThoughtsOnTomes3 жыл бұрын
Merlins are the magic users. Pages are basically "in-training" and Squires have been chosen as basically a second in command.

I’m listening to the audiobook and I’m confused. Why they refer toGreer as “they”. They introduced them as Greer Taylor and say they are Russell’s but then it sounds like it’s one person ?? Did I miss something?
