The whole missile duel before the infantry clash then flank with cavalry thing has been done to death and is so boring. I can’t stand older total wars now because Warhammer gives me so much freedom and diversity to branch out from the norm.

This sort of guide is great and has a way longer life expectency then 20 turn guides. I would love to see more of these. Just you showing in depth what you should watch out for, what pitfalls to avoid, which perks to pick, which research to focus and which units to get, but most importantly why you do it. I hate a lot of guides because they are more step by step guides without explanation. This guide is more freeform and easier to divert from if you want to and gives a better understanding of how to play a faction. Looking forward to more of this, keep up the good content Legend

Few points. 1. They took away his mortis engine, so that GAWD! 2. The Furies may be worth keeping around to kill fell bats. In my campaign, he got a second unit of bats and the drones alone against them took awhile killing them. Also, they make great rear chargers into a crumbling unit that still has tons of HP. (Altho drop them after his faction is done cause, I mean…)

I actually really like Nurgle Furies. They are cheap to recruit and do a good job harassing back lines and damaged units. They can also be used like an expendable roadblock in emergency situations. The poison attacks really help them out, weakening the enemy.

The variation i saw from others guides was: - recruit another Lord that you can move close as extra hero/wizard - power up ku'gath in his fighting capabilities and not magic - uses the heros for magic.

Here is the better plan, just abandon the chaos and get back to kislev razing one settlement after another, just keep one or two as your capital. By the time you are back to pragg, it should already be razed or captured by skaven or norca. 9/10 times. just capture that, easy game from there

with diplo bonus vs your daughter, it is easy to secure the south front. so you could just kill the skaven and get back to chaos with a secured home base. I even manage to get orthadoxy to like catarin by making alliance with both of them. and later confederated both...

I wanna point out that you can just travel North to Kislev and the chaos waste by the underground sea-way. It's quiet enjoyable up there. The Humies are very good plague spreaders. Plus if you play multiplayer campaign you can easily do a WOC and Ku'gath while being close to eachother.

That's something interesting, I've finished Campaign of Ku'gath once, and it's doable but painful at the beginning. And it's slow, I took the part of Cathay and the rest was in hands of my ally Lokhir and Snikch.

I tried this, and it went well, although not exactly as Legend did it. I had to fight Ghorst in the city, but as an added bonus he had wiped out the Skaven armies completely, so when I joined the war the Skaven accepted vassalization at the same time. I also ended up going Haunted Forest first because the remaining army was on the other side. I used my second army as ambush-bait and wiped out the main remaining army that way. Great guide!

To be honest, I migrated to the High Elf island colonies right after wiping out the lizards and let Ghorst take the Dragon Islands. Then went down to the Southern wastes. Was pretty fun.

Another tip I want to give that will help Nurgle players after taking out Helman Ghorst, remember you can always spawn an army of Nurglings anywhere to defend your territory. It works incredibly well against the ogres. Clump all your units in trees and let the ogres come to you at a disavantage and spam Stream of Corruption. You would be surprised by the kind of battles you can win with a full stack of Nurglings, it's kind of absurd lmao.

I'd add that going for resource settlements early, just to get the hero cap raise from them is important too so you can get that sweet movespeed from cultists and best exalted heroes in the game. Those will be your dmg dealers eventually. The nurgling spam is really good, you can also use them sometimes to exploit a weakness.

And you did it without taking advantage of the WoC expansion. Well done. Though it would have been absolutely ridiculous before they reduced Ghorst's regen to 50% and took away his mortis engine. That mix of mortis ghorst with regen, mortis engine with regen, corpse cart with regen, and a crypt horror on top was rather hard to deal with.

This is a very helpful guide to me. I'm coming from Warhammer on the table top. Collect Maggotkin of Nurgle so naturally I want to play Ku'gath. Then l get my teeth kicked in being completely new to Total War.

This is probably needed for Legendary difficulty. On high\very high i was able to more or less consistently fight Lizardman and arrive right at the time when Ghorst smacked down Rats and still has his army damaged and sitting in conquered settlement. Major settlement may be even better, because it will have holes in the walls and AI derps because of it.

It's never needed, ghorst is plenty beatable on legendary on turn 9-13 like you would normally encounter him. Just have to get heroes of nurgle asap and zerg him down, rest of army is not a threat.

I like this guide it's really good. I do typically recruit a 2nd unit of plague toads, usually with 2 plague toads and a deathheads I can isolate gorst away from my infantry and since the new AP damage addition to the plague toads, they can kill gorst pretty well without taking much damage from his mortis engine, otherwise almost exactly the same as what you did here.

the main takeaway that I fully agree with 100% is that dread rock should be avoided until later - I'm kind of proud that I had also come across that separately from you. the difference between your strat and mine (admittedly on a lower difficultly - normal) is almost every aspect - I take the stone isle, I redline nurglings and have the hero cast, I work towards recruiting heroes (something that i don't think would even be a viable option without his champions of decay). But the turn difference from taking dread rock vs avoiding dread rock is MASSIVE - COB defeated around turn 25/26 (and wildly variable) versus COB defeated around turn 11 (and consistent). I'm going to have to try your plan out and see how it goes XD

As a note - for the last two I autoresolved every battle and you can do that on normal with this strat lmao - you have to recruit dudes into the second army and it seems to always take an extra turn.

They really need to adjust demon unit decay. It’s one thing with the undead because most of their units are super cheap, but a lot of demon units are pretty pricy. I think they should make it more like a heavy stat debuff and if they really feel like they need to keep units decaying make it so they have to cross a health and unit count threshold before they are allowed to take decay damage.

I also have a strat, but quite different: Turn 1: infect Ku'gath with buboes or Rot, attack an army, loot a settlement. Recruit a chaos warrior lord, toss one unit between 2 armies to up the spread count for a bit (It will be 8), Ku'gath is level 3, do the recruitment reduction skill, recruit 2 toads but save the money overall for lords, construct the resource building in capital. Join war with Skaven through Ghorst. Turn 2: recruit a lord (chaos warrior), go to a channeling stance with both Ku'gath and second lord and move them towards northern port settlement, where the army is, recruit 2-3 nurglings. Turn 3: Besiege the settlement with Ku'gath, move both lords towards him, attack and loot the settlement. Spawn plague cultist of Ague, move towards Stone bay(?), or the skaven minor settlement to the north. Recruit 4-th lord, recruit 1-2 Nurglings or 1 plaguebearer if you want to. Turn 4. Attack the major settlement with Ku'gath, move 2 lords (can't move 3 to the coast), loot the settlement. Wait for rebel, infect the Ghorst with Cultist you spawned earlier. Turn 5. Attack the rebel, take infections (Lizard rebel is better, because you can get up to 300 infections, but if you have bad rng, 80 infections from Nurgle rebel is still decent). Spawn another plague cultist to infect Ghorst. Turn 6 Return and move towards the infected Ghorst (he should besiege the Skaven minor settlement at that point), recruit Nurglings till full stack. Turn 7: recruit 5-th lord at northern settlement, sell settlement to Ghorst, attack that settlement and take it back. Disband the 5-th lord Set ambush bait to try to lure Ghorst. Turn 8: AR Ghorst whether he is going into ambush or into the city(or still besieging)

I tried this campaign back when Helman still had his mortis engine the strategy I came up with was securing my province then leveraging the 80% ambush stance the home province provides and a bait army of nurglings to bait Helman into making a mistake took him out then used it as my breakout opportunity to march on the haunted forest.

I have discovered that the best way to deal with ghorst is by using the plague drones to kill him. Have 1 or 2 furies for bats then shoot down ghorst with the drones. Then his army will charge at yours leaving ghorst behind where you can thin finish him of with the flyers in melee. (I'm saying this before watching the video so if I'm right lol)

I remember I got through my Nurgle campaign thanks to some random glitch. I moved my units to camp Ghorst's reinforcement arrival point to fight them while Ghorst's army lumbered over. For whatever reason the 2nd army didn't show up. I lured Ghorst away with Death's Heads and fought his first army. Then fought Ghorst and the Mortis Engine with my single entities away from my army. Afterwards I didn't win the battle, even with no enemy units on the field - once I moved my forces away from the reinforcement point THEN the reinforcements came in - about 25 mins late. The reinforcements battle was easy but would have wrecked me if they arrived when they were meant to.

I played for the first time yesterday and got super late game, was excited. then that Gorst guy got as strong as me. I could weather the storm vs like 4 factions sadly, was a fun first experience though, im liking the plague guy.

I noticed that for a player who's good at being efficient and optimal you weren't placing most of your streams of corruption ideally, at least at first. It's wider than it seems sure, but you could be placing it back a bit more to hit with the wider parts. Especially the first ones could've been dealing around 10-20% more damage. I'm nitpicking I know, and it could've dealt friendly fire if you aren't careful.

Just want to offer another tactic for you guys if you can get to the settlement before Ghorst destroys it. My favorite thing to do is declare war a turn early (offering skaven to join war and getting paid), going into ambush stance, and then sitting next to the settlement. Even if the ambush fails, Ghorst often just attacks anyway, and together with the skaven units, you can easily autoresolve this fight. At this point, I like to have another Lord (mortal one of nurgle) sprinting to catch up to the main army. I have also been able to just autoresolve taking Ghorst's main Tree settlement immediately afterwards (unlike Legend's preference to go for Gnobly Gorge) Some variance on that depending how his other armies move, but the second lord allows you to do the usual besiege and flush out nearby armies tactic. --Also want to add that I love these types of aggressive, early targeting type of campaign starts where you quickly crush the main threat in an odd way. Good shit Legend.

Beautiful guide. Honestly I'm not even sure the double stack is a big deal once you know how to deal with Ghost (sniping him with the bugs lol). Obviously avoiding that situation makes the beginning much, much easier though. The whole strategy of stacking into a corner with the regen and heals though makes so many otherwise tough fights completely one-sided.

First notice that Ghorst doesn't start with the Mortis Engine anymore. That damned thing singlehandedly killed my entire army in all my tries to play Kugath. It was so fun that I stopped trying.

The drones and frogs have huge unit mass, I have used them to delete stacks of light units on steep hills. And drones on walls vs lighter units do realy well. Niche, but could be usefull to know some battles

I tried him recently and I actually had a pretty easy time getting rid of Ghorst. But even now that I've half-killed Greasus, I still feel like his campaign sucks. I can hardly build anything or recruit any units because everything is so expensive even though I control 3 provinces my income is still low. I have one and half armies of mostly nurglings so I feel like I should not be hurting for money. I even tried spamming the favor on spread plague to supplement my income and I can still only build like one building every like two turns. BTW if you're having trouble killing ghorst, use the plague drones to snipe him off his cart and/or gank him with exalted heroes.

i justfollowed this guide managed to take teh haunted forest by turn 8 byforcing a field battle between 3 vamp armies and the garrison, kugath got 4.7k kills with stream of corruption!

If you delay killing Ghorst a couple of turns and focus on taking out the Lizards, leveling Kugath and unlocking plagues your campaign will be in and much better position overall. Ghost will not be much stronger on turn seven (at Skrap Towers). Exchanging the Mortis Engine for an Black Coach will make the battle much easier.

31:10 you might of been able to put Ku'gath in ambush stance with the second lord in forced march to make that an easier battle. Plus you get 1 more fights worth of XP. However, I dont know if you would of been able to reach the Haunted Forest on the next turn.

Bet it helps now the starting Lizardman enemy lord doesn't get a Carnosaur mount from turn 1. That was an annoying speed bump before you had to take down Ghorst. EDIT oh and Ghorst doesn't have that Mortis engine any more? Seems like it should be straightforward enough then. Still think Legend's tips here on taking Ghorst out ASAP are useful.

I am just playing this campaign, so this suggestions are more than welcomed. I almost killed off ghorst, but then Greasus showed up and started rampaging. The big problem with nurgle is that you can't fuking recruit units! Once an army dies you must wait like...50 turn for a new fullstack

Any time i have a unit “hidden” in the trees, the AI automatically knows they are there and b-line straight for them. So I don’t bother hiding units anymore. Only stalk seems to work, but “hidden” as a tag, otherwise, seems pretty worthless.

The fact they removed Ghorst's starting mortis engine definitely made things easier, as if they were still there his corner camping would be disastrous Also the CoC DLC with the exalted hero of nurgle does absolute wonders against ghorst and all his monstrous guys: turns out they suck at dealing with armored/armor-piercing single entities
