great video. the book by art burton, BLACK GUN, SILVER STAR is a great book about Bass Reeves. the thing that gets me is that his exploits were mentioned in all the area newspapers dozens of times..... he was somewhat of a celebrity back then. Everyone knew who he was. citizens knew he was the legendary black deputy marshal. Criminals feared him. then he retired and his career was marginalized . but it's good he is eventually getting the recognition he deserves. He was probably the best u.s. deputy marshal in history.

What an amazing human being let alone peace officer, sad that he lost some of his offspring to illness and his first wife also, but very sad that a son went off the rails having a law abiding father with a fantastic reputation like Bass had. Excellent documentary, very well done. Thank so this.

Truly enjoyed this presentation. It was easy to follow and most interesting. I have done teaching (as a nurse)lecturing. Just love it. I was told I had a gift for it. You do too. Since I retired from nursing I have been studying history: Wild West, Civil War U.S. prez. and famous shipwrecks. Enjoy it all! Look forward to doing.additional ptograms

9 children? There's another documentary that states he and his wife had 11 children. Names and DOB's of them were also stated, as well as her death being at the age of 55, not 56.

This is not Bass Reeves. Please stop passing this mistaken picture of him. This is a cabinet card from a private collection thought to be Bass Reeves that sold at auction for $12,000.

LOL. Talk about armchair quarterbacking. Instead of it being Tuesday morning it's 130 years later by a jackass that isn't taking into account that black men had very few ways to provide for a family at the time and he fell into a lucrative job he was good at. What was he supposed to do? Quit and farm and sell his crops for 1/4 what they bought the same thing from a white person for?
@keithwilliams11103 жыл бұрын
Wow, you are shithead! Reeves took advantage of a golden opportunity to work and provide for his family. How many black men were able to involve themselves in law enforcement? Unfortunately, life is a trade-off. One thing gains, while something else loses.
