Regardless of how many cores we're comparing Intel version is still more expensive than AMD ones. It also applies to their last gen models like their 5800H and 11800H (both have same cores - the Intel version is 100 - 200 USD more expensive).

they increase the price on both amd and intel versions for first few months to get that sweet $$$ after which there are like 300-500$ sales which are totally worth it at that point, same way you can find Ryzen 7, rtx 3070, 1 tb storage option for like 1600 $ for prev generation.

Me too. This looks great but too heavy for my liking. I'm either going to pick up a Zephrus G14, G15 or Legion Slim 7i. I really like the portability of the G14 at only 1.7kg, but the 16" screen on the 2.25kg slim 7 would be better for gaming, though the G15 would split the difference at 2kg. I also can't afford the 2022 Zephyruses (would have to buy 2021 versions), while I can afford the brand new slim 7i. Decisions, decisions.

12700H + 3070 or 3070 Ti is the best config for this laptop. The 3060 lags behind. With the 3070 or 3070 Ti it's much more capable. Also, you said 32GB RAM is the "max supported" which is wrong. It's the max you can order from Lenovo, but this laptop will support 64GB DDR5 if you upgrade it yourself - so it might be worth saving money by ordering with 16GB if your plan to upgrade the RAM to 64GB. Also, the prices of these in the UK are stupidly low and extremely good value - and yes, you can buy them now. Oh, and you also didn't mention it comes in Glacier White too - a custom colour option at no extra cost (or £10 sometimes), with a much nicer blue backlit keyboard. Looks way better than the grey body and RGB.

I have the new slim seven i with a 3060. Thanks for this excellent overview of the 5i Pro. I just picked one up yesterday at Canada Computers as an open box and got it at a great discount over the normal price here in Canada. You mentioned that the maximum RAM capacity is 32GB. I find that extremely hard to believe, given the brand new DDR5 controller, dual RAM slot configuration. Unless Lenovo has put some kind of artificial cap on max addressable RAM in the bios. I'd be willing to bet money that at the very least, you could put two 32GB DDR5 modules in it for 64GB.

@@pranavapn18 The Legion 5i was a beautiful machine, with its metal lid, keyboard deck and bottom cover, and excellent, snappy responsiveness to all tasks, including the SSD read and write speeds, and gaming is outstanding. However, it gets hot, with the CPU and GPU consistently running around 85 degrees, with regular spikes just above 90 degrees even on balanced performance mode. Also, as a result of higher heat output, the fans are significantly louder than the AMD 6800h/3070Ti combo on the Legion 5 I opted for instead.

My issue with the G14 is that it's parts aren't high TDP, so they don't really get to run to the max potential of the silicon. I'd rather pay less for a Legion that gets comparable performance due to thermals.

I have been debating getting a replacement for desktop for a while since it has been having issues. Debating between the Legion 5i Pro with the 3070ti, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17, and the Razor Blade 15. The reviews I have seen of the Razor seem to indicate it is over priced so I am leaning toward the Lenovo or Asus. It would primarily be used at home and connected to my Samsung Odyssey G5 monitor and keyboard and mouse, but would be nice to take on longer trips in some cases

Lenovo has jacked up the price on the 5i gen 7... 12700H + 3050Ti + 16GB RAM = $1780 For that price you could get last gen with an 11800H + 3070 + 16GB RAM (which is on sale for $1801.99 (MSRP is $2119.99), because they are likely artificially holding off releasing gen 7 models until inventory of gen 6 models dwindles) But the Intel variants of these laptops are absolutely priced higher than similarly spec'd AMD models Take that 11800H + 3070 + 16GB RAM + 1TB SSD @ MSRP $2119.99 Compared to Ryzen 7 5800H + 3070 + 16GB RAM + 2TB SSD @ MSRP $2079.99 (only a $40 difference but other models have bigger gaps) Lenovo may hike the prices equally from Gen 6 to Gen 7, but Intel variants are pricier... what features aside from historically Thunderbolt may play a part in that?
