Great review! I also got the Legion 7, RX6850M XT with Ryzen 6900HX maxed out pre-configured version. And I also noticed that it doesnt matter if you are on quiet, balanced or performance mode, not matter the gpu goes up to 140W. Absolutely love this, because the temps are even in the quiet mode great, and I can also game while my girlfriend watches tv right next to me on the couch and get full power. Great device, sold my Legion 5i Pro I7-12700H RTX 3070TI to get this device, I dont regret anything. Altough the 5i Pro was also great, but the Legion 7 looks and feels much more premium.

@@Vladyugi sorry for the late answer. I have some pictures of benchmarks I ran when I first got my L5P, but I till now did not run many benchmarks on the new L7. If you decide between 3070TI and RX6850M XT, get the RTX card if you also want to do creative work like video editing or 3d modelling/ animation. RTX cards really are the best in this regard. For pure gaming performance, I noticed a slight performance uplift from 3070TI to 6850M XT, not much but noticable. I absolutly love that I can run the L7 AMD version in silent mode and get nearly full performance, while with the L5P 3070TI version, I ran the laptop mostly in balanced mode (which equals to around 100W gpu wattage) and the performance was worse while being louder in games like Battlefield 2042. Pure gaming performance: 6850M XT (also nice to have 12GB VRAM instead of 8GB), for mixed usage: RTX 3070TI

Fantastic review! I thought about waiting for the 2022 Legion 7, but I got a very good deal for the 2021 version with the 5900HX and RTX 3080 16gb for $1440. It has been a great machine and I use it as a desktop replacement. Hope it will last me for 4-5 years.

Performance on Intel laptops is really good and tempting to buy but at the same time it suffers from heating and battery backup issues which holds me back from buying one All amd machines are a perfect balance between performance and efficiency which is what exactly a laptop should be

I can't help but wonder if more wattage (TDP) on the AMD 6850Xt would give it performance comparable to a mobile Nvidia rtx 3080/ti. That being said this AMD version of the Legion 7 doesn't have the battery heat issues the Intel version does. If you look into the gen 7 Legion 7 Intel models users are getting battery temperature warnings already a few months after launch. The palm rest temperature is a good sign on this AMD version.

the laptop at graphic intensive gaming will only gives cpu 30w , at 30w the 6800h is faster than intel, also at higher wattage 6850m is afsater than 3080ti, so amd will have a 5-10% lead imo.

As usual great and detailed video, but about the battery life did you completely disable the Discrete Graphics . it should be able to get 10hrs out of that 99whr.

Yes I was expecting 10 hours! I will keep playing as I have heard there is a bug on the power save mode with this model and I ran it in power saver. And I had hybrid enabled so the 6850xt should be switched off when not in use. I will keep playing and update you if I fix the issue

How do you completely disable the dGPU? This laptop runs in either hybrid mode or dGPU mode. The only laptop manufacturer I know that offers that feature is Asus ROG.

If your battery is shorter than expected, try setting all power options (BIOS, Windows, Lenovo software) to balanced. Ryzen 6000's new adaptive power management requires these settings to take effect. You'll also need to use it in this mode for a while as well because it learns from experience in order to deliver a system specific dynamic performance and efficiency scale.

​@@MashITTech Well, I am mostly interested in gaming performance since, to be honest, the 6000-series of CPU is no match for Intel's 12th gen beasts, while the mobile graphics 6850M XT seems to be very good and often more than comparable to nVidias mobile cards. So how does "Advantage edition" do for the whole and what is it really. If what I've suspect is true, AMD has a real chance of bringing back some real competition through the laptop/PC tablet market. Because this machine, despite some mishaps comes at a real bargain compared to brands like MSI, Ryzen, Alienware and even ASUS, even if they do very cool stuff. The support plan from Lenovo is half of Dell/Alienware, but I don't yet know if they are as good. Another thing that baffles me if you could squeeeze it in, is why people insist on talking about "Thunderbolt 4" when USB4 is the same AFAIK. The USB consortium have even promised to stop adding commas and Revs, so the next version would simply be USB5. Leave Thunderbolt to Apple, I say. Any idea about the laptop/desktop market share BTW? A long text, I know, but you asked for my wishes. 😊

The one thing mashit missed is the cpus only get 30W while on graphics intensive gaming, so it pulls ahead of intel laptop. and 6850m performance will defenitely leaves the 3080m and 3080ti behind with this much wattage. it will be nice to see a comparison between intel 3080ti vs 6850m.

I just got the 6900hx 2 days back. I humbly disagree that lenevo should reduce the size of the power brick or slim the laptop. I had a Razer blade RTX 2060 prior to this and that machine was slimmer with sleeker power brick and boy that never helped. I constantly hit 100c on all cores and the power brick never managed to run the laptop in full power. I think lenevo is doing an excellent job with the chassis and the power brick.

That’s nothing to do with the size of the power brick but everything to do with razers throttling thin chassis! Alienware have a slim 330w adapter for the x17 and x15 and they allow the laptops to run full power. If they switch to GAN chargers they will have the same capacity whilst being much much smaller

The razer battery bloat is for 2 reasons. 1. They use cheap cells and 2. They let the battery get way too hot in the thin chassis. The cells they use are rated for less than 45c but it gets way hotter because of the thin aluminium chassis radiating the heat

Can't thank you guys enough for this review - I've just picked up one of these with the Ryzen 7 6800H and an AMD Radeon 6700m for a £1,099!!! I paid a little extra for the 3 year warranty. Going to be using mine as a Linux work horse - just hope GPU power management works (i.e. hope I can power down the dedicated GPU when I don't need it). Anyway, should have my unit in my grubby little hands tomorrow - can't wait! 😄

I just visited their website tonight and it looks like they (unfortunately) went out of business :( I'm really loving this laptop, does everything I need it to, great battery life on Linux for light tasks, makes a great desktop replacement, everything is user-upgradable, great display (etc etc etc). Just very happy with it.

I've decided to buy a Lenovo Legion 7 gen 7 version, but i am oscillating between the AMD and Intel versions. I would buy it mostly for gaming, but i have no experience with the AMD laptops at all. I'm a bit confused with the time spy score because my g15 advantage edition with the 5900 HX and the 6800m actually got a better score of 11,776 overall with a gpu score of 12,033 and a cpu score of 10,505. Btw I ran the test @ 1440p With that being said I did upgrade the RAM from the slow ram it came with and I'm running it on an external screen that directly connects to the 6800m. But even with those confounding factors its still strange considering the g15 advantage edition is almost $500 less and has an "inferior" 6800m graphics card. I wonder if it has something to do with your power profiles not making much of a difference. It doesn't seem like they're pushing the hardware to perform to the best of it's capability.

I have managed a 12k gpu score but only once! What TGP does your model have? The Alienware m17r5 6850xt has 175w and scores much better than the legion. I am going to tweak around with mine for the next few days and try and improve it. I will keep you posted

@@MashITTech The TGP is 150W on the g15 advantage edition and it wasn't like I had to run a lot of tests for my score it was literally the first test I ran that got 11,776. Thanks for responding, I'm really interested to see if the software handling the profiles gets updated to push the card a bit harder, if using an external display would help or if the laptop comes with slow ram...🤔 Btw I said it was "almost $500" cheaper because I've seen it (very rarely) on sale down at $1200(unfortunately I bought mine for $1600 lol)

hello mate very nice review. In my country the legion 7 r7 6800h rx6850m xt goes for 2700 euros. The intel version goes for the same price (i7 12800h rtx3070ti). I want to use only for games and a lot of VR gaming (quest 2 PCVR). What do you think is the better option. thanks in advance.

For the same price I would choose the intel version. The intel has much better cpu performance at the expense of battery life. The only reason to choose the AMD is if you need better battery or it is cheaper like it should be

Thank you so very much for doing this in depth review mate ! I waited and missed it being in stock 3-4 times waiting on a review ! Never came . I purchased anyways for the little extra battery and it was just recently on sale for 2,000$ LESS than the maxed out 7i that’s value you can’t look away from rtx be damned . It’s not worth 2k extra !!!!! I can’t wait to get my unit . I got the maxed out version with one year of on-site service and 1 year of accident protection for 2200$ ! But seriously there’s only one of video and it’s just shows some graphs compared to the 7i . It didn’t even have a actual unit in the video ! If I was not already subscribed I def would

glad it helped mate. I will be doing a video with more comparisons between the 7i and ryzen versions but in all honesty I am keeping the ryzen version for better battery and cooler palm rests. The intel CPU is better but in games you won't notice the difference and I have a desktop for my video editing

@@MashITTech that was my instinct as well . I even thought of waiting for next gen to start going into laptops until I realized they would be super expensive just like the 7i . Also many avid laptop gamers told me but something nice for 2k and in 2 years get another . Don’t spend 4k now and in 2-3 years want to upgrade . And that I’d be much happier if I did that way . So I went ahead and purchased without a full review but yours gave me peace of mind

Also Jared did a bunch of test between the 3070ti the 3080 and 3080ti and he said the few extra frames you get from going higher in price were not really worth the price to performance he recommended not going higher than a 3070ti in a laptop for the money ofcourse but with this one punching just above I’ll be super happy with the result coming from a desk top I patched together with a gtx1650 no external power . I’m used to being stuck at 59 FPSin COD . This will not only be my first laptop but also my first REAL gaming PC

@@MashITTech thank you again for all your help but I’m at a crisis ! I just got the laptop . I had NO CLUE about the AMD driver issues . I play tons of COD . And the recommended driver is 22.5.1 but everyone is saying it may not run MW2 unless you use the new untested 22.11.1 . Which drivers did you use ? If the new one was used did you have any crashes ?

I own the legion 5 pro the placement of the keyboard is far from being ergonomic. I wish they would ditch the numpad and take the Tmodels keyboard. The touchpad is just horrific.

I agree with the touchpad location. And on a device of this size I tend to agree with you as the cramped number pad is hardly a selling points. I understand a lot of people still want number pads but I don’t know why they don’t just safe them for 17” laptops where you have room for a full sized keyboard

If you're educated enough you know even though the intel is "Faster" you don't always need that especially if you have a desktop as well. You want a well balanced cohesive laptop with great features, great screen and battery life.

Well, my laptop does surely show performance difference b/w the modes. I'm currently in auto setting and my GPU is pulling only 7W of power and if the setting is set to quiet and I play a game, I can see a drastic difference in the frame rate.

This is how all my previous legions have behaved! What model and conjuration do you have? I don't understand why I am get full GPU power on quiet mode (and I am not the only one). The intel model throttled the GPU heavily on quiet and a little on balanced
