Great review, just two comments on the specs. The 13900HX has 24 cores, 32 threads, not 24 threads as indicated here. The 24 threads is for the 13900H not used on the Gen 8. Also, I believe Windows Hello is not possible on the Gen 8 as it has no IR sensor which is unfortunate, but not something that will bother me too much. I prefer no frills and loads of power. As far as I can tell it offers the best value proposition. With the excellent cooling it outperforms many other 4080 laptop offerings coming close to some of the 4090s available on the market now. After a week of researching all that is out there I've placed my order for the pro 7i.

Honestly I get the feeling they're holding out for a Legion 9 model or something similar, or Lenovo is just trying to cut corners to adapt to the absurd price hikes from Nvidia. The touchpad is plastic instead of glass, the design is much more boring and looks cheaper (in my opinion) without the brushed aluminum chassis from last year, there's no more fingerprint reader, there are fewer Type-C ports (seriously, who needs 4 USB-A ports anymore), there's no icon illumination for the back ports, and the AMD model isn't even coming to the US. As much as the performance of the 4080 looks really tempting, I think I'll be much better off sticking with a good deal on a 3080Ti or RX6850M XT model from last year, even if they don't perform as well. Well, that or wait a bit for the inevitable Legion Slim gen 8, which should hopefully bring the AMD Phoenix processors once they're available next month.

I don't understand why people complain about the size/weight of the power adapters. Are you mouse or men. If carrying a laptop and power adapter in your back pack is too much for you,then you need to start going to the gym and put some muscle on. How small do you want a power adapter to be..a tiny 330 watt power adapter will over heat quickly and not last long.

You need to include a desktop 4080 into your graphs. It is disingenuous and irresponsible to not include information that tells potential customers of the difference. I am very disappointed that you jumped straight to conclude that the 140W PD charging here is part of the USB PD 3.1 EPR when it is likely not. According to Lenovo own's User Manual, the specs for 140W charging is 20V 7A, which is out of any USB PD 3.1 140W specs, including EPR specs. The 140W USB PD 3.1 EPR specs is at 28V 5A. No specs of the USB PD 3.1 allows any higher than 5A of current. This implies that, again, only Lenovo proprietary GAN charger would be able to reach 140W Type C charging. Other aftermarket charger would likely only see maximum 100W charging.

IMO too many corners were cut. Not worthy of the Pro designation. Why drop the lighted rear port markings? Why drop the 2nd TB4 port? Why drop the all round RGB lighting? Why use more plastics? And what's with dropping the 2.5 gbe ethernet to 1.0 gbe? Also you totally didn't mention this drop in the RJ45 port speed to 1 gbe. I stopped watching after the point you talked about the rear ports at around 9:16. Intersting how you quickly glossed over those short comings and your choice of words. I know its hard to be too critical esp when Lenovo provided you with all the units for review.

I personally own the 4080 version of this laptop. It is slightly heavier than my older 3060 strix scar 15, but I've gotta say my Davinci Resolve exports are more than twice as fast and I can output straight to av1 instead of using handbrake after the fact. The keyboard is quite nice, I found myself getting up to full typing speed pretty quickly. The only exception to the is the 10-key, I'm happy to have it but it does feel a bit cramped and is harder to get used to. Overall I'm very happy with this laptop, I picked it over the Zephyrus M16 4080 due to the higher tier CPU in this model. Weight and portability weren't a real concern to me, I don't mind my laptop being heavier. Edit: One small note, my cpu performance on battery is actually lower than I got with my two year old Asus laptop. I'm certain that's due to the better efficiency on the AMD cpu in that laptop. I am primarily plugged in wherever I go however so I wasn't bothered by that.

Gen 8 looks solid. I am curious how the non TB4 port is wired to display...is it direct to intel GPU OR the RTX? I'd assume TB4 port gets direct access to the RTX? How many 4K displays can you drive, 2 out of TB and 1 out of USBC via DP?

First, there's no Windows Hello support. Second, the keyboard deck feels like plastic (who cares if it is made of magnesium?, if it will get scratched in the first three months). Finally, I think everyone can tell this is a downgrade compared to the gen 7 legion 7i. The $/fps is amazing tho, that´'s why I ordered one myself

I have this laptop with the 4080 and can confirm it's fantastic. I've never been a fan of the left of centre touchpads though, as much as I like the full size arrow keys - would rather they were squished in to fit it in the middle. It's also by far the heaviest laptop I have owned - but the robust cooling system justifies it, I suppose.
@little_fluffy_clouds
@little_fluffy_clouds Жыл бұрын
Indeed, it’s actually not that heavy compared to the competition if you match the specs, and it has the best cooling, especially with the vapour chamber for the 4080 and 4090 models. I went with the 4080 model myself and it’s a superb all-rounder

In the spec wars bit of the video, you confused "threads" with "cores", not sure you noticed. :s So it's 32 threads and 24 CORES.

If I'm being honest, the Gen 6 looks the best. Boxy, angular, and RGB vomit. However, the fact remains is that if I'm buying one right now, it will be the Gen 8 because the chassis allows for better cooling, hence better performance/noise control. To me, its the inside that counts.

So if you’re thinking of getting a Legion, get a Gen 7 unless you *need* the performance. Lenovo really got some backwards ideas, so I’ll probably just avoid altogether.

Good review but it screams of "they paid me to say newer is different and better". The "significant" design changes turned out to be minimal... one notch and some lighting... oh and the exhaust vent shape lol. It's literally the same laptop but with a generational increase in performance, as shown in the graphs. Just like every year. Stop pushing people who have perfectly good laptops to upgrade for no reason other than "hype".

Question for ya. U mentioned installing more memory you will lose the 5600 speed? Is this a limitation of the laptop? I want to upgrade to 64gb and the 64gb kit will be rated at 5600hrz. The laptop won't handle that?
