The Spartan-George Raider was designed by Les George, a prolific Knife Maker and former U.S. Marine as an homage to the Legendary United States Marine Corps Raider Stiletto of WW II. This sleek and durable dagger while holding to the overall design of the original knife takes advantage of a full tang design, injection molded handles, modern SK5 steel. It is delivered with a knife specific injection molded sheath for a secure carry and protection. This is a dagger that any Marine or soldier would be proud to carry into a dangerous situation or raid
This dagger was designed hilt-heavy to lie in the hand to reduce the risk of dropping. It has double-edge blade with stiletto-sharp tip and diamond-shaped cross section, sharpened on both cutting edges all the way to its the oval cross guard. It has a slender symmetrical grip, with a middle convexity.
The original stiletto hilts were die-cast using zinc aluminum alloy to create the handle but, over time it was discovered that the zinc ions in this alloy tended to leach out, leaving the casting extremely brittle. a result, more than half of the few Raider stilettos still in existence today have very fine hilt cracks or entire portions of the hilt missing, with pieces having simply flaked off; many more have replacement handles. Therefore, we chose a full tang design with durable injection molded handles.

The purpose of sharp edges is the same as razor edges on hunting Broad heads. To enhance penetration through tough hide, or in this case, cloth, leather apparel. Also these daggers Were used to slice. Throats, tendons, etc.

You are absolutely right that daggers should be sharp but they don’t need to be shaving sharp. I have one of these and got one coming for a friend. They’re great and seem really strong after stabbing some wood without damage.

Most folks are finding these as pretty sharp. Yes, the main purpose of a dagger is to penetrate, but having a sharp one doesn’t hurt. 😁

@@SpartanBlades1 absolutely, I put another edge on it for fun and my brother and a friend love theirs. I just took the harsey fighter on a pretty long hike and it was great. I need to test out the kukhri next. The v-14 has stood up to some great penetration tests but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to sharpen it with a whetstone without scraping the middle near the fuller. Any suggestions?

Deadly! Daggers are more about the tip being sharp and pointy as opposed to shaving sharp all the way down the edge. For example a lot of old bayonets from like the Revolutionary War didnt even have edge bevels ground. Just the tip. Total piercing tools.

I like spartan but i got a V14 and it was dull, and yeah i know i know its a dagger but for almost $500 i want razor sharp edges, for that reason the applegate dagger is still my favorite dagger design

Daggers are made primarily for stabbing. But why put an edge on it if you don't expect to use it to cut. If you only require a stabbing tool, just sharpen a big nail and save some money. If it has an edge, it should be as sharp as you require it to be, for the job you expect it to do. And for me, a combat related blade needs to be damn sharp. I need to rely on that blade to perhaps save my life. And really when you stick the knife in and push it out as you discussed. It needs to be sharp. Not pretty sharp, that it catches on my finger nail but threateningly sharp. And by the way. For serious collectors, the box that the blade comes in. Is an important part of the overall package. It can even add value to the knife when it comes in a box that is in pristine condition. Serious collectors hate those plastic bubble packaged knives.

If it's a blade, it needs to be sharp. Otherwise, you may as well just carry a spike. As long as I can sharpen it, I don't care if it isn't razor sharp from the factory if the price is reasonable.

How much was the shipping at Chicago Knife Works? I can get for $109 at NC BLADE and just pick it up. I'm debating between this and the Spartan Harsey Fighter for $130. Any thoughts?

Usually I get free shipping from CKW and no tax. If you want to use the knife get the fighter in my opinion. As much I love the dagger it’s not as useful in my opinion. It’s more a specific tool. Again just opinion. Take care and good luck.

I don't agree with your argument that daggers just need to stab and doesn't need to cut/slice. I think that's just an excuse used by makers to be lazy, just like some makers said they don't sharpen their blades because their target customers are all Rambos that sharpen their knives themselves to their preferred sharpness. Indeed, there are makers that make daggers that are razor sharp, which shows it can be done with extra effort. An example would be cold steel tai pan. I
