Love the comparison. And I agree with you about the Lenovo's choice of Display. In fact even on last year, lenovo's only 100% sRGB coverage and just around 70% aRGB and DCI-P3 covergage was below the competition of other Premium Gaming Laptops like Asus Rog Strix/Scar series, MSI and Alienware M15's QHD 165/240Hz display, coveraing full 99% DCI-P3. That prevented a lot of people, including me, who do both gaming and a lot of editing work. I have compared it with Alienware m15 R7's QHD 240Hz screen while editing 4K video and the difference can be seen even with untrained eyes. Just having a high brightness doesn't cut it anymore. And the thing is Asus and Aleinware are using these high color gamut QHD panels since 2021.

It looks a lot like the Legion 5 Pro, especially the hinge design. While I own a Legion 5 Pro and like the aesthetic, they really dropped the ball on it, the Legion 7 (2021) had one of the best designs for a laptop.

Wanted to complete your review on a TV screen. I have your variant and so love the RGB lighting as well. 100% on point and on board with you as well, glad you confirmed Lenovo isn't clear on CPU TDP. This is actually my first Lenovo i7-10750h, RTX 2070 Super max q with 144Hz screen, previously had a helios 300 gtx 1660ti core i7 9750h. Love the Lenovo a lot was eager for an upgraded design, a bit of a bummer, but if performance out does most of the competition, I guess still with team Lenovo. The New predator 16 looks much improved from where they were. Wished they adopted lit up IO at the rear panel like the Lenovo legion 7i.

I'm with you Brandon. These are a major step down in design from last year's model. In some respects, it's below the 2021 model. The competition has caught up, finally, with 16:10 screens and Advanced Optimus. Add in the higher quality screen tech, and Lenovo looks to be DOA. Pricing will be critical here, though it's possible to get deals on Asus. A big pass from me.

The fact that the RTX 4070 version comes with a cooling downgrade in the form of only a partial vapor chamber really sucks. Why do they cut costs on such critical components? With the full vapor chamber it would be quieter under load thanks to its lower TGP. I would have hoped for a slightly thicker version of the Legion 7 2021. This thing was simply gorgeous but too thin for my liking. 3-4 mm thicker fans and vapor chamber would have been a safe buy.

After leading the market for the past couple years I just don’t know why they would take such huge steps backwards and make little attempts to move forwards simultaneously. The only thing I can think of is they want to move up their future production to launch in line with other brands instead of launching their new flagships late in the year, therefore they rushed the gen 8 to give them more time to get the gen 9 out in line for February next year? That’s literally the only thing that makes sense.

you can blame Nvidia for that. Because 4070m is actually now a 4060 desktop GPU. And I guess 4060 is too low of a class GPU to put it in a high end laptop. This is also why we can no longer have a desktop **70 class GPU in budget laptops like Legion 5, Asus TUF, Helios 300 and so on.

@@GizmoSlipTech yeah I watched that too, but I heard the 4090 mgpu might not be official and saw a short of a Legion Pro 7i with a 4080 which means they could be saving the 4090 for the Legion 7i. The Pro 7i is an updated version of the 5i Pro, confusing right? The design of the 2022 Legion 7i was brand new, there’s no way they would completely abandon that. Plus, I’ve been following closely, they did this last year. The Legion 5i Pro was released sometime in March-April, then in May they announced the Legion 7i. I also find it really hard to believe that Lenovo wouldn’t include miniLED when they’re main competitor is ASUS who made multiple miniLED laptops, not including all the other monitor and laptop manufacturers that made OLED/MiniLED displays. Even more, the Legion 7i Slim was supposed to have miniLED and they probably saved it for this year. EVEN MORE, where is the Legion 7i Slim? Which is exactly why I think we’ll get an announcement in a few months.

@GizmoSlipTech maybe the times has come for fall down for lenovo this year after dominated for years ? first, that design changed i tho its downside for this year. maybe every person have their opinion about RGB right ? but hey, its high end device and it suppose to have one, the person who dont like RGB can turn it off right ? its just few clicks, 2021 lenovo 7 was the best design in legion 7 history. second, the display they dominated soo much on this section for years, look all the reviewers back then all positive feedback from that 500nits 16, but everyone now is improve and catch up but even going to another level with miniLED display wit 1000+ nits, third the weight increase to 2.8kg idk what they thinking, its not include the huge power brick that u have carry arround.

While a mini LED dipslay would be great the laptop is in my eyes more than expensive enough already and I am certain this is the reason why Lenovo downgraded slightly the design as well: to offer a more competitive price. Sure you can get a razer or asus, but then you have to pay for similar components 500 to almost 1000 euro more. Regarding AMD vs Intel: with leaving the benchmarks aside, battery life is not really the strongest argument to get such a laptop. I personally prefer the thunderbolt connection. And sorry, but I am actually happy with less RGB ;P.

They removed most the usb c, which sucks. I am glad I bought last years i7 12900 HX model, this is awful. All they needed to do was add the new chips and upgrade the screen. I have a feeling Lenovo is going to be releasing a Legion 9 later this year that is basically what you described. They release this version first for everyone to trash it and it looks terrible in comparison, then everyone’s prayers are answered with the legion 9. But that’s just a guess from me. I too have the 2022 7i, and I was considering selling and going with the 4090 version because of DLSS 3, faster ram, and more future proofing for all the games coming this year. But unless a legion 9 is on the horizon….guess I’m sticking with my current version.
