If I remember correctly, at the very end of one of the narrations, the narrator asks (paraphrasing) "Which is worse: Fear or the frightened?" They're the frightened. They're afraid of what David might do, and their fear turned him into their enemy. From his point of view, they turned on him, and the dude that killed his sister is walking around like everything's cool. What did they think he would do?
@nidhikih24516 жыл бұрын
That's the whole point of it, they all had a delusion regarding David that made them fear him and ended up turning him against them. This was actually explored with Syd throughout episode 10, as Farouk uses Melanie to plant the delusion that David is the bad guy into her mind, making her fully believe it to the point she was willing to kill him, and later she convinced everyone else that David was actually the actual enemy, leading up to this. They basically showed with Syd all the steps of a delusion that were discussed by the narrator, that's the real plot twist after all.
@dabblerdeluxe7756 жыл бұрын
I can see both perspectives,certainly they are hypocrites acting out of fear and syd being petty as hell considering she has done worse(to her moms boyfriend) if he wasn't powerful they wouldn't do all this but its fear that made them turn.
@Dezzyyx6 жыл бұрын
Can't wait when all the drones actually buying that David is supposed to be the "twist villain" for real, - as if that's what the show has been trying to say all this time - are proved wrong next season. The show has been trying to say that an idea can lead to a delusion.

I spent some time in institutions myself based on fictional mental disorders and wrote a song about it. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that the anger they used to tell me i was broken just came from the provocation of someone elses confirmation bias and they were the delusional ones because there was nothing i could do to reason with them. "You take me for a straw man, you dress him up in spades. You give him all these weapons, i'll take you to your grave. I'll be your monster fantasy, i'll be your darklit wish. I'll bite you like you want me to, i'll take the blame for this. I have no reservations, i'll swallow all your lies. And when theres no excuses, i sooner hope you die. You take me for a straw man, from which i do confess: i wear the mask you give me, to frighten you to death". The song is about a resentment for someone who justifies despicable things by forcing an identity on someone and rather than trying to protest their ignorance, embracing it since fear is the only reality they deserve.

The whole season 2 is based on how an idea can be a delusion. There even was a dialouge saying how 9 out of 10 people being wrong in a room will think they are right when infact the 1 person in the room is the right one but people will label him as wrong/crazy etc. All of these dialouges came to meaning in this scene. 😲

@Caelinus6 жыл бұрын
The sexual assault/rape angle is much more nuanced than I think people are giving it credit for being. If we assume that her default state is loving him, and she was only convinced not by through the influence of mind control, then him using mind control to remove that influence may be justified. But if she was not under mind control, and rather was just convinced by conventional means then he definitely raped her. Most likely the reality in universe is somewhere in the middle, which is even more disturbing, as in that case she is completely victimized by the contest of wills between Farouk and David. Consent and free will have basically been stripped from her entirely. Her whole reality is being shaped by the perceptions of two people who are so vastly more powerful than her that everything she knows about herself can't be trusted. It is like the most extreme form of gaslighting imaginable. Her reality is literally being changed by their whims. I think people focused in so hard on the sexual assault aspect that they miss just how disturbing *everything* else is in her life. That was a single and terrifying example of how much of her autonomy is gone.

What is happening here to David is so unjust. Betrayed by Syd because she saw some videos? Put on trial for crimes he might commit? Closed into a cage while the Shadow King walks freely? This is so unjust. Glad he unleashed all his power.

Enrico jusy pissed that he is kept in a cage because if what he could do in a possible future....while shadow king walks freely...everything could have been avoided if they did things differently
@enricovincente6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sms! Yes, for sure. I think they have to provide massive explanation in the following season. Because it might still be all a plot of the Shadow King. We saw that the cyber crown that was put on him glitched and made lights. So it is a big possibility that this whole situation is the result of the Shadow King. Pay attention to this: "For what is normal is that upon which nine wise men can agree, leaving the tenth to swing from a hangman's rope. " This was in the text put on the screen before the trial, I didn't pay much attention at that the first time I saw the episode. So yes, It is a big possibility that the Shadow King regain his power, he was able to command the rat after all, and poisoned all the other and David is actually the "tenth to swing from a hangman's rope". The case of Syd is instead more complicated. Because it seems that David tricked her, even if at first I thought he was actually trying to heal her from a spell that Farouk put on her. She shot him with such a cold spirit, if you rewatch the dialogue they had... David is bleeding his heart out and Syd is so cold, we have never seen her like that. So this is either a product of bad writing (evaluation of Syd motivation insufficient) or an intervention of Farouk, that can actually explain why she acted so strangely. But if we take this second path (intervention of Farouk), things become very complicated. Because we can doubt Cary when he said "treachery" if indeed Farouk has control over everybody. And we can even pretend that Farouk himself, in prison, lied to David saying "It's really sick, what you are doing to her... controlling her". But then why David didn't erupt saying: "No Farouk! Fuck you! You were controlling her mind! I freed her!". Even one of David's personalities admits that he was tricking her, so maybe, and this is pure speculation, the Shadow King had a special trick up his sleeve: making a manipulation not seems like a manipulation. So indeed Farouk put a mind spell on Syd, so she had enough motivation to shot (and betray) David, and finally this explain why David couldn't recognize the spell and thought he tricked her (when in reality he freed her). This is just speculation, I'm sure we can all find other reasons, maybe better ones that justify Syd behavior in the desert. But this is what the writers must deal with. Because Syd's behaviour leaves a huge hole. Why she acted in that way in the first place? David is the villain and Farouk the hero? Based on what? Events that might happen? The face that David make? Why all in a sudden she didn't trust his man? Why she shot him so coldly? These are no insignificant questions. I send you a hug Sms! Have a nice day :)

Syd is the ultimate hypocrite. She's been doing fucked up things since she was a kid with no demon in her head and she wants to criminalize David for things he hasn't even done. Unbelievable. Also, they keep saying David ends the world, but Oliver says in the beginning the world hasn't 'actually ended'. There's still battles between good and evil, there's still people. Also if Lenny didn't come out of her high, shoot a sniper rifle, and miraculously hit Syd's bullet mid air, Syd would of straight up shot David in the face. Where is her trial? If David can be tried for future crimes, Syd should be able to be tried for failed crimes. Why did Carey ignore that part and just see David do the mind trick? How wasn't Syd trying to kill David the first act of treachery to an outside viewer like Carey was? Syd....you're not a protagonist and you're not a hero.

@thehumanity06 жыл бұрын
Yeah I sort of see it as the equivalent of David accidentally starting the Age of Apocalypse in the comics since he is starting his own apocalypse here according to future Syd if her story can even be trusted anymore. I think next season is going to allow for David's personalities to massively develop and evolve more though, and they will probably run amok to the point where he will be fighting himself internally a lot. That means we will get to see struggles within David like with Jack Wayne and Time-Sink in the comics. I don't know if Hawley will go as in depth with the personalities seeing as all we know about the ones that he sees are called Divad and DVD so far, but hopefully they will develop into full blown split personalities that have their own personas and unique powers.

Part of the genius of this ending is that it plays into the Mass Hysteria theme that Hawley had built up throughout this season. Essentially everyone else is as much a villain as David is by the end because of they're blanket overreaction to a presumed threat. It doesn't make David any better, but it shows that both sides are flawed and that both are right and wrong depending on your interpretation.

What's happening here has so many layers to it. The people who claim to love David wants to take his power away in order for them to feel comfortable. So David has two choices either live in a bubble all of his life so the people he loves will love him back or develop self love and leave the bubble. Self love vs submission to a collective or some type of family unit because of the belief you will finally be loved. I would have done the samething David did and leave the bubble.

Its interesting though sadly not surprising that most of the headlines about the end of the season 2 focus on how David betrays sydney and doesn't touch on the fact that she betrayed him first and literally tried to kill him which is a worse crime than what he did. She knew entering into this relationship that he was a broken person and is tricked so easily into killing him it's kind of silly.
@forcryinoutloud6 жыл бұрын
You're talking like Syd was a perfectly healthy person mentally herself - she wasn't. She was fucked up too. Frankly, they shouldn't have been anywhere NEAR each other because of their issues. And of course it focuses on what David did - HE is the MAIN character, not Syd.
@TyreII6 жыл бұрын
@@forcryinoutloud I don't think I insinuated she was perfectly healthy so not sure how I was "talking" like she was stable. Your second point actually proves my point more he IS the main character and he was betrayed so you'd think more of the discussion would be about that. Melanie was the one who showed all those memories to Syd and she had an entire episode dedicated to her to show how the Shadow King had her under his control.

What David did was rape, sure, but still just because of that, ALL believe he is worse than Farouk. Even Though Farouk did worse things than that (in fact he technically speaking raped, both Oliver, Lenny, and what he did to many people of Division 3 and not to mention what he did to Amy). They felt for the Fear, the Delusion, and the Hysteria and Paranoia, and are in the path of making David the very Devil they fear. So far, if David just decides tonever come back, and go to "is farm" good, but even if David only wants that they will keep hunting him, causing him to think "YOU WANT ME TO BE THE DEVIL. FINE, I WILL BE THE WORST DEVIL YOU EVER MET". David is still in a potential of becoming or not becoming LEGION The Worldkiller, but Farouk is certainly shaping up that future t set it into stone. That's the scary thing. Even Farouk is deluded into thinking "He is the Hero, David is the villain" just because of what Future Syd ended up causing

that's not rape.

As much as I did not like what he did. Technically it's not rape, because he didn't change her mind into something she isn't. He reverse her memories to before. If he basically reverse all of time and not simply her memory, she wouldn't have a problem with it at all & you wouldn't see it as rape because it would technically never had happen. And he did that because there's nothing to worked out... she intent on killing him base on what a known mind manipulator show her, it's apparently that easy for her. That was an even bigger betray than what he did. Which is technically no surprise... what she did to her mother's boyfriend, that is way way worst. He is at worst emotionally unstable but she is outright monstrous.

Could be a shot in the dark but my theory is that his “true self” aka Legion personality frees David and others personalities kinda help but aren’t powerful enough. Not sure who says “I’m done.. You had your chance” (Could have just been David but not all powerful just yet) but imo when we see David’s eyes close up, at first he looks up and struggles, you can kinda see he sorts through his powers slash personalities? But soon after David’s eyes point directly at the camera. I think this was true Legion who sorta manifested due to David coming in terms with his other personalities and was able go use all his powers since all of his personalities including the main one we see do not want to be drugged or killed.

I think this is all a part of Farouk's plan. He knew he would be killed by David in the desert, so manipulated Syd into stopping him. And yet he also knew he likely wouldn't survive long once he was in Division 3's hands. So he's driving David mad and turning the Summerlanders and Division 3 against him to act as a distraction. Meanwhile, he ingratiates himself by "helping" them reveal the truth of what David did to Syd, showing that he's on his way to becoming Legion. This gives Division 3 a reason to keep him alive, and allows him to establish a power base to further his own plans while the others are forced to contend with David. David's plan to kill him was brilliant, but Farouk was still a step ahead.
@marcoviola67416 жыл бұрын
That's a good point, but I'm not so sure that Farouk is to blame for this all. Shadow king is a selfish, sadistic knave, but he would never let the world be destroyed. He's basically an hedonist and he wants to live and enjoy unrestrained pleasure. He doesn't take fun in destruction for the sake of it, because this world is basically his playground and he would never smash his toy, as David could do just because...he's insane. That's why he could be actually on the same league with D3.
@Ambaryerno6 жыл бұрын
Oh, he's certainly going to genuinely assist them with stopping him. But as I said, it's ultimately a part of his own plan to walk away with his body and freedom in the aftermath.

The Vermilion later eluded to the pod when they were accusing David and suggesting the pod was 98% likely made by future Cary. Basically what happened is that the Syd sends back the pod to capture David, where she takes him to the future so she can simply tell him to find Farouk's body and then i guess she dumps him off a year later, which might've been purposefully because it seemed like future Syd was trying her best to fuck things up between past David and past Syd and Syd's first real problem with David occurred when she claims "David left her", when in reality, it was future Syd who is the blame for it.

He's not a traitor, he's just going off the deep end. He mentally manipulates several people and straight up date-rapes Syd/wipes her memory because she stopped seeing him as a good person. That's dangerous. Farouk's just there to keep up the illusion that it's a trial for him, and not for David.

He wiped her memories of her basically saying "yeah we're done" and then proceeded to replace those memories with fake ones of her still loving him. It's not waking up love, especially when he proceeded to have sex with her. She clearly didnt want to before he messed with her mind. If he's messing with people's minds, they cant trust anything he says anymore. Especially since the future timeline versions of our characters said he was going to be a bad dude. Melanie can be excused from her actions since she wasn't exactly in her right mind, but David knew exactly what he was doing.

Let's not also forget that he tortured Oliver for several hours psychically. Another aspect is something the show plays with a lot; What we're seeing isn't nescessarily what's happening. For all we know, David could've done a hell of a lot of worse stuff and we wouldn't know. Or maybe they didnt try to kill him, but since he's such a paranoid schizophrenic, his mind makes him jump to that conclusion and he lashes out.
@qwintonmoore89335 жыл бұрын
I know I'm late to the party, but for those of you who say David is the villain and can't be redeemed because of the whole blurry sexual assault situation. Don't forget that Syd did almost the exact same thing with her mothers boyfriend. Both she and David deprived their partners of information that they knew would result in their partners not giving consent. While I can't really call David a "good person." You can't claim Syd is either. They both had their reasons for it. And I'd argue Davids motivation (while definitely not justified) was far more relatable than Syds were. From the beginning of the season we had all this talk about "love being what we have to save." And that's what he was trying to do. But he didn't think that just because he could do it the way he did, didn't mean he should'lve done it. While Syd on the other hand simply craved the physical affection she'd been unable to have her whole life, so she abused her power to put herself in a situation where she could get that. Even though odds were she knew it would end badly for the guy. They were both naive in the moment of their decisions, not thinking their actions through. Plus the fact that their powers allowed them to so easily bypass the obstacles that would usually stop them, made them even less observant of the ethics of their actions

If the writers are playing the game where david is actually more 'evil' and a 'villain' then they need to explain why all of his friends would try to kill him for a crime that hasn't even been committed yet let the shadow king off scott free when they know he's murdered countless people and then claim that they tricked the audience into thinking David was the hero when he was a villain all along (that would be very lame). It makes more sense that the shadow king is manipulating everyone and that manipulation may end up turning david to villainy.
