Factory Style Workshop Repair Manuals bit.ly/3l2k9WO
Today is a good old fashion wrenching on a car video but with a big twist. What was supposed to be a complete nightmare of a job turned into me learning a hack that could save many 6.3-Liter AMG V8 owners (M156) thousands of dollars and a lot of time. Whether you're doing a power steering pump, engine mounts, air conditioning lines and a few other expensive jobs this hack, this trick that I figured out is going to make your life a lot easier. I hope you enjoy this one and don't forget to get a repair manual for your car. The downloadable version is the best.

Dude...as loose as that mount was and as much power as that motor has, it's amazing it did not shatter and cause real damage when the engine decided to pop the hood for you. Bet it sounded like someone pounding the frame with a sledge. Love seeing an awesome car getting worked on. Great videos!

I am a German Mercedes car mechanic apprentice and we're using the WIS constantly when working on (customer) cars. You can literally take apart the entire engine and put it back together with ease using WIS (We did that during a two week-course). It's so neat especially for beginners because it is so accessible. The cool thing is, once you know your way around it (and it isn't that complicated) you'll know the basics to mostly all modern cars. I'll be using it when I maintain my Merc once I bought it.

Guys I have W211 E63 with the power steering groan when I turn the wheel left to right. Since you say the M156 power steering pump that it’s solid do you think it could be a clogged filter in the PS reservoir? I’m used to working on M cars but not on AMGs. This jobs does not look easy.

As much as I love big engines in small cars, I think I'll stick to my old OM606 powered W124. There's adequate space in the engine room, removal of engine takes 6-9 bolts, 3 multi-connectors, fuel and cooling hoses, et voila. Oh, and the serp belt takes literal minutes to switch..

Great Job Alex! Since no one seemed to surmise on how the Refrigerant line got damaged, this is it; Bad Motor mounts can lead to other problems albeit unrelated because the engine would be able to move more than it was designed to! Always make sure your mounts are in Good shape:) Also when something on a car is damaged, it is just as important to find out why as it is to fix the problem/replace the part:)

I'm a mechanic and have been pressure washing to clean my engines for almost 20 years with gunk gel engine degreaser and have never had an issue except when I first started wrenching I soaked a distributor lol just had to dry it out but I don't cover anything in the engine bay unless it's a distributor or alternator but you can spray your alternator QUICK with water if its covered in oil don't just sit on it spraying quick swipe. I do this to my 03 S55 several times when making ABC and oil leak repairs.

Help! A friend had me put a pump on his c63 amg because it was whining. Didn’t have any formal diagnosis etc. just had me put a pump on the car. I replaced the pump checked the rack and all connections for leaks and see 0 leaks what so ever. But the whine is still just as present as before. I’ve tried bleeding the system countless times with no change. I even left the pass. Front of the car jacked up with the wheels turned to the right over night hoping that would alleviate any air built up in the system. Then I had both wheels in the air and tried bleeding the system that way goin from lock to lock. but I cannot get the whine to change. I know it’s something accessory driven as the sound isn’t present with the belt removed and engine running. But the sound is coming from either the pump or the compressor right below. But I’m not running the ac so it has to be from the pump. I do notice some tiny air bubbles in the tank still after running the car. I’ve read the ps tank has a filter built inside and if that’s clogged could cause my issue? Just need some help or ideas or tricks

This C63 will become mechanically, suspension, bushings, engine, and exterior as well, perfect condition car for insanely good price. It is a key you can do all the work yourself, like with all the rebuild channels, but I think this deal will be really on the cheap side for what the car will become. All the small things you did, engine mounts are important, so engine doesn't jump in the engine bay, AC, power steering, all the small thigns, plus the big think previous owner thought he had going on- the head bolts, he decided it is time to let the car go for cheap. Now you fixed the small things around, engine is fine, and you end up with awesome car.

I guess I'm lucky then ? because I've got this same 6.2 V8 M156 engine in my 2009 CLS63 AMG and it gives a bit more room to work on this great engine ! It is still hard to believe how they managed to get this engine to fit in the W204 C class....I am guessing that they used more compact exhaust manifolds and a more shallow engine sump perhaps ? either way I love those C63's, They are very cool cars 👍👍👍

Alex, help me out: If my AC is fine, and I don't want to take the A/C compressor out of the way (like you didn't), can I still get access to the two rear power steering pump bolts? I am guessing that the banjo bolt power steering line was not an issue, because you pull the pump with the line attached. I understand the comment that you have to crack loose the bolt first, but I'll deal with that. Thank you,

Hey Alex my name is Mike, I have been watching your videos for a long time now. You inspired me to buy my W204 2009 C 63 AMG white on black just like yours. Mine had about 69,000 miles when I bought it about 4 months ago. After a few thousand spirited and ProjectA stage 2 tuned (e85 blend) miles I now experience a large amount of white smoke behind my car, when traveling at rates above 80mph at high rpms meanwhile I have no misfires and no loss of power, but as soon as I pull over turn the car off, then on, everything goes back to normal. Is there any explanation you can see as to why this is happening? Head gasket and head bolts were replaced at 55,000 miles by a reputable shop. I have done the trans service, diff service and spark plugs myself. Is there any tests you would recommend I perform to dig deeper into this issue?

Hi there Alex, I hope you can see this message. What’s that special tool that you used to remove and reinstall the steering pump reservoir retaining clip? Believe it or not that lol thing is hideous to deal with. Also, I don’t know if you have a video dedicated to replace the rack and pinion on a 2007 ML 350 or similar. if so can you guide me to it? Thanks brother!

Try "eagle one etching mag wheel cleaner" for aluminum. Nothing beats that

The pin connectors on the flexfuel kit are prone to bad connections. (Eflexfuel) almost better to hardwire it. They sent me 3 kits, one harness had larger pin terminals vs the others and solved my issues.

Excellent tip, I have to do my engine mounts on my c63, I may attempt it now instead of sending to MBZ

*So the c63 doesn't have a tandem pump? Is it AirMatic, or coil?*

@@LegitStreetCars That is very surprising! I prefer old-school to ABC or AirMatic although nothing rides like ABC when they actually work lol.

Alex, your attention to detail is amazing!! There is nothing worse than opening a hood and seeing hanging wires, cables, broken connectors, and zip ties everywhere. It may work for awhile but reliability in the future is gone.

Would this be easier for the ML (W163)? I think everything is way more accessible and located differently...
