@@Unbrickme Yes, all I wanted to say is: You can program other hubs with python if you use pybricks. To me it looks like Lego is getting more and more just a money grabber. I liked much more the first editions of Lego Mindstorms from the 00s. They were ~200 bucks and were geared to a more experienced (adult) people. They offered much more possibilites from a developer's point of view. I remember the third party programming languages like NXC and NQC, which boosted the limited capabilities of the simple bricks. I understand the goal now is to get to young kids into learning robotics, but seriously 400$ for a "toy" for a 10 year old kid? Seems too much to me. Not to mention in a classroom, 4000$ bucks to teach robotics to kids it's a lot of money for many schools (at least here in Spain). Also, they seem to shorten the life span of their new line of products and cut too many expenses (I really miss the outstanding printed manuals from the 90s-00s era!)

Despite mindstorms being used by some of the greatest minds of the world, my 7th grade robotics teacher said "EV3 is just for elementary school kids" I completely disagree with that statement. We ended up using linkbots, which are honestly a joke compared to lego mindstorms! You can flash the firmware from one to the other and use the corresponding app. I think 51515 can be used for the purpose you described, although you'll need to explain more about coding as the app doesn't provide much information. Or it should work with kids who are familiar with the basics.

I’d say that after having the set that EV3 is for more experienced users but the new Mindstorms set is for more beginner users. Although the new system does have a lot of benefits like being able to use the powered up motors with it. But there isn’t that big of a gap between the EV3 and the new Mindstorms set. Many of the same things can be accomplished but the new Mindstorms set does have some nice additions like better shaped motors that are easier to fit in. As for Spike Prime or Mindstorms, they are essentially the same thing but Spike for the education market whereas Mindstorms is for home use.
@Unbrickme4 жыл бұрын
Gamemasterks Dude nah man EV3 is just 2013 outdated technology. Same thing as using the iPhone 5s in 2020. The new system is much, much better than the god awful EV3, and I’m saying this is a relatively advanced user, having used RobotC, NXC, and python before!
@gamemasterksdude2804 жыл бұрын
@@Unbrickme Why was the EV3 so bad. My only complaints were that the motors were weirdly shaped and that the program is 32 bit. From my experience I never thought the hub was too slow or anything.
@Unbrickme4 жыл бұрын
Gamemasterks Dude don’t you think that the god awful start up and shut down time was too slow? It was literally slower than my work computer. This was a major downgrade from the NXT system, which only took like 3 seconds to power on! The ev3 kit’s robots also came with pre written code, with many of the blocks being like “my blocks” and this doesn’t teach you to program at all! NXT, however, has guided programming, which took you through each step of programming! It was awesome, and it was actually how I learned to code when I was just 7 years old
@sicantreis4 жыл бұрын
With the previous two generations of mindstorm - NXT and EV3, you could buy the commercial version and a Lego Education version. The differences were very similar to the Spike Prime (in fancy plastic bin) vs Mindstorms (51515 in cardboard box). I would be surprised if LEGO didn't release the new mindstorms (51515) in a education set eventually. These sets are usually a bit more expensive, EV3 education is ~$440 vs. Commercial is ~$345. This difference in price is typically based on slightly better assortment of parts in the education version and also comes with a rechargeable battery pack, not to mention the excellent plastic bin :) I highly recommend waiting for the education set before purchasing as set, or go with the EV3 which I like a lot! Thanks for the excellent video review of these products!!
@RacingBrick4 жыл бұрын
In this case Spike Prime *is* the education version, there won't be another one
@sicantreis4 жыл бұрын
@@RacingBrick I'm not sure I agree - it seems to easy for LEGO to repackages the new mindstorms kit not to sell and education version. Spike Prime, IMO, is geared towards younger children (8-11ish) and Mindstorms is geared towards middle schoolers and up (12+). Also educational kits are a huge seller, schools and programs buy 20-30 of these kits at a time. But time will tell. :)
