@@kentslocum It's atrocious they haven't released simple old->new and new->old converter bricks. And the new connectors should've been stackable. They just want you to buy new stuff to replace the old stuff. A few years from now, I'll bet they'll release something new and even more incompatible.

@@antisoda honestly crap like this annoys me forcing you to pay extra. Have they forgot their target market? hopefully not so why do they expect kids to pay like 90$ for a new hub *a single hub* for extra motors, lights etc. They should've done something like buwizz or updated the IR receivers for a Bluetooth one as seen with S brick, release a new line of motors like the C+ L and XL with their rotation sensor and incorporate them into current powerfunctions...

I think, the reason behind lower power output of the Technic Hub is that it also needs to power itself (the microcontroller and bluetooth adapter). Although, I wonder if Technic Hub can accept higher voltage energy source.

@@RacingBrick before you test that, take a Multimeter and measure the voltage of all the batteries in the Technic hub and the PF Battery box. Neither system has shunts or bucks to change the output voltage, so if one device has better batteries than the other (say, a full 3.6V new AA) vs some older or cheaper batteries (down to 3.3 or 3.2v AA) the output power would be affected.

@@RacingBrick ah, thats good! BTW, AA battery cells are specafied as 3.5v but can be as high as 3.7 out of the box. their voltage drops over time and with chemical impuraties in the cell. thats why cheaper batteries (more impuraties) often have a lower voltage and die/droop faster. for instance, i use Durracel Quantums that i got from my work, and new, they measure 3.7ish volts.

I don't have any PF-motors, but I have some 9V motors with the old style stud-connection. They have bottom connection, requiring an old style cable to adapt. My focus is Mindstorms RI, but I guess the external motor for Boost has approximatly the same form factor, and dont need an adapter, and would even support relative position and speed control.

Hi Balázs! What is the performance of the buggy motor when it is connected via the adapter cable to a control+ hub? Is it OK to use a buggy motor on the Lego 42124 set via this method?
@RacingBrick

The performance is definitely lower, somewhere around the PF battery box but a power cut might happen even sooner due to the high current under load. I would not recommend that combination as you wouldn't really be able to use the abilities of the motor.
