This video explores how I built a Caribbean Port town as a movie set for my stop-motion series Being Pirates. Lego buildings are combined with terrain made from Styrofoam and plaster.

Wow! Just amazing work! I love the mix between lego and terrain. The models stand out so much better! For me lego terrain can be uneasy for my eyes, almost confusing unless it’s solid colours(could be down to my eyesight..) There’s so much character in this little world! I was just scrolling through that brochure last week, I have years 89-96 from my younger days. I used to gaze at them for hours dreaming of what I could have.

Thanks Josh! I might get round to making instructions for the church at some point, although I would update it quite a bit, it was one of the first buildings I built after a long Lego hiatus (going back to my teens) and so it works ok as part of a film set but it would need some work to become a set I would feel happy about selling instructions for. I'd design an interior for it as well.

JEEZ, dude, I'm speechless! Just when I thought that it can't get any better than those preview pics in Instagram (which were already stunning enough 👌🏻) - here u are with kinda "behind the scenes" miniseries! Great move on your part, we've been waiting for the Second Season for quite some time now, and what is a better way to make our waiting process fun than just straight show the audience the exact scale of what's coming, lol 😁 I cannot believe the amount of work you've already put into this project, it's outstanding, m8, I've been watching this vid with my mouth wide open pretty much the whole time! Bravo, man 👏🏻 You've mentioned "AC: Black Flag" as a source of inspiration for the buildings - gotta add that I personally have HUGE "Seadogs/Age of Pirates" vibes from them, this is purely amazing how u managed to deliver that spirit, simply wonderful 😍 U ain't wrong about merging LEGO buildings & sorta "natural" surroundings: my experience as a viewer tells me that in stop motions these types of setups work MUCH better than fully brick built environments in 9 out of 10 times, it just makes everything happening on the screen a lot more believable, changes the whole perception of it, like, sucks the viewer into the reality of this imaginative world. IMHO, you really did a stellar job with decorations to achieve that, and I'm saying it all while I didn't even get to see the finished product yet! 😂 Bonkers, fella, mind-blowing 👍🏻 I wish you the best of success in finishing the production - we NEED to know how it feels to Be Pirates again! 😉 P.S: that teaser is 🔥🔥🔥, lad, I CAN'T WAIT! It's so cool, all of it: lighting, water breezes, sound effects - WOW! 😱 P.P.S: INSTRUCTIONS??? BRING 'EM ALL IN! 🙏🏻

I haven't heard of Seadogs/Age of Pirates but I'll look into that, it'll probably be good for inspiration. Cheers! 👍

@@vanestream mutual cheers, me mate 🍻 I have no doubt that all the effort will pay off, so far looks like a solid candidate for THE best LEGO Pirates stop motion series in existence 😁 If you're about to look up any of those games I've mentioned, I highly recommend starting with the "Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships" or "Seadogs: To Each His Own" 👌🏻 These games are kinda old, those I pointed out are probably the latest in the series, dated like 2009-2012 or somewhere in between, so should be well suited for a representation of what I meant. To this day these are considered by many as THE best gaming simulators of Carribbean life, arcade enough to be welcomed by a broad audience and realistic enough not to be too arcade, lol, if that makes sense 😅 These games, as well as LEGO Pirates theme, are all great pieces of my own childhood, that's why I'm obsessed with seeing your creations finally come to live in the new season, as it reminds me of the good times 😌 Let 'em roll, shall we? 😉🙌🏻

WOW that's really beautiful ! Not only the combination of lego and non lego but also every lego construction and the way they are put together with all the angles !!! I have like 10 medieval houses a large mill, a big church and some plans for a huge castle. Now that I moved I can finally start my lego medieval city I was hoping to build for ages. (I literally set up the table just yesterday) I planned to do lego terrain building but I might lack too many parts for a result that won't be as nice as this. This video is really inspiring ! I'm a bit concerned if the silicone on the water gets too sticky and if the dirt on the landscape doesnt't come off. I also wonder how easy it is to dust it all because that's becoming a real nightmare.
@vanestream
@vanestream 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! :-D I'm glad you like the town. That sounds like a very impressive medieval town you're building, I'd love to see it when it's done! If you're interested in the non-lego terrain building, in part 2 of this video series I go more in depths into how I created the non-lego landscape. The silicone on the landscape isn't too sticky in my opinion, but the dust has been an issue. I now cover the whole thing in a thin plastic sheet when I'm not filming, which has worked wonders in keeping it dust free.

Thank you! Concerning your questions: 1) I did buy the bluebrixx set, with bluebrixx bricks. With bluebrixx sets the quality of the bricks can vary, depending on the set. The building I used was the village forge, for which the quality was less than that of Lego bricks. Everything still works, but the bricks don't feel as high quality and especially the plant peices fit loosely. The extension to Blaustein Castle I recently built was on par with Lego I would say. 2) Sabre Island is a Letbricks set. They don't use Lego bricks either, but they do have very high quality bricks. They have a slightly stronger fit than lego bricks (which doesn't make them better or worse than lego, I guess it's a matter of taste).
