Hey, I always wondered why the mini dolls can't sit properly a la minifig. It seems like such a design fault and the sets have to make weird things to work around it. I think it creates a kind of uncanny valley on an otherwise perfectly good design. Maybe you could make a video ot an interview about the mini doll creation process ? It would be interesting.

This. What I really appreciate about Lego Friends is the variety: service buildings, but also schools, shops, malls, houses, treehouses, nature scenes, hotels, cinemas, theaters... Stuff that you can only get as modular building sets if you want them for standard minifigs.

I'm seriously starting to think that Lego City is actually at its end life state… Friends line will progressively take over it if it's not already the case… The minifigures will remain because they are very popular and fun to collect…

they did pretty well recently with the apartments complex, some houses and especially downtown.. but seeing the new sets for next year is already a bummer man, just more police and fire stuff. lets hope they come out with more of the modular city stuff around summer like they did this year, because wow i enjoyed downtown so much 🤞

I honestly wish that The LEGO Group didn't drop the whole _LEGO City Undercover_ franchise. What they could have done was keep _LEGO City Undercover_ as a sub-theme for the _LEGO City_ brand, where the _Undercover_ sets are more action-oriented with emergency services and named characters. That would have also freed up the main _LEGO City_ sets for more varied ideas. Alas, that never happened, and _LEGO City Undercover_ has practically been forgotten by LEGO. But while LEGO can retire sets and themes, they can never retire the fond memories we have.

Fun fact! This set contains models of the two stinkiest flowers in the world: rafflesia and the titan arum, which is also known as the "corpse flower" because of how bad it smells. They smell this way to attract scavenger insects for pollination.

I really love that fountain and waterfall. I've got that 18+ set you mentioned and I definitely liked it a lot more than you did in your review of it, but dang if the water part does look better done here. That frog underneath the water tiles is so great.

Let me just say that buying 2 and building the full thing from rebrickable was so worth it. It is one of my favorite things in my collection. Every time I walk by I have to stare at it. It's incredible.

That is exactly the thing when Lego is spare time activity shines the most. When people are unhappy with certain details and start modifying stuff, small or big. I think it is great when youtubers show some easy starting points on how one can get creative, even without a huge Lego collection.

The 2023 Friends sets might be some of the best yet. Still not a huge fan of the minidolls (I’m not their target audience) but they’re doing diversity really well so huge props to Lego for that. I haven’t assembled this particular set (need more shelves) but I’m looking forward to the day when it happens.

Looking at the butterfly play feature in the dome, it would be cool if it could be spun using the decorative sphere at the top or the dome. That would be an awesome improvement. Great review as always! ❤

It is a shame it wasn't "finished", perhaps a little limited by the theme as it has to be priced as a nice gift for a child rather than a expensive adult collector piece. I see they've got a couple of sets in theme more pricey than this but they're probably reluctant to have too many at the top of the range because I can't imagine it's a huge market. A nice change to see some stuff outside of the adult market on this channel btw, wasn't expecting it to be Friends, but understandable with this banger of a set!

I think the added build you did was really good. The original model I feel looks incredible form a certain perspective, but from another view, looks incomplete. Not quite half of the build, but enough over a quarter to notice it should continue. Great review as always

My only regret with this set is that it wasn't created as a full, enclosed modular. But that aside, it's strikingly beautiful and was fun to build. The fountain/waterfall/pond segment is particularly clever and interesting. Definitely one of the best sets I've bought in years.

I don't love the mini-dolls or the overall Friends line, but I did buy this set, as well as the Community Center and Community Kitchen, because I really liked the color and design aesthetic of those buildings, and that they were modular. The Botanical Garden is just a fantastic set regardless of the line. Oh yeah, I did buy the Heartlake Theater as well, but I specifically bought it to convert into the Muppet Theater for my Muppet mini-figs. It isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn close!

I agree, I've built it and it was an enjoyable experience. If you want to create a full-dome a few extra pieces (cylinder glass 30562 and round brick 48092) are needed, besides a second copy of the set.

I think Ninjago did accomplish quite a big impact with the city sets but like, WOW how did I not know about this, its beautiful and wonderful builds and techniques and AHH Oh wait I remember that corpse flower... oh wait I did see this before at the reveal, glad I got to experience the surprise twice hehe (1:36 palette not easel but tbh I didnt remember what easel was myself lol)

Pretty awesome set as are some of the newly announced friends sets. I got really lucky as one of are national supermarkets had these on clearance: usually £75 but had them reduced to £25 which is roughly $32, I managed to snag 3 sets for a MOC!

"Wow, Lego Friends has been creeping up in popularity..." Before the pandemic, Lego Friends was included in a lot of the 'Top Themes' lists in Lego's annual reports (meaning, a top-selling theme). But then it might have dropped off those top-selling lists? It's hard to tell since some of Lego's more recent annual reports don't call out the themes the way they used to (I'd have recheck, but I thought they use more vague language now like '...some top themes include...'). Maybe you mean popularity of Lego Friends among adults and/or influencers that were not previous Lego Friends fans? Unless you have some inside data about sales figures.

Botanical Garden came out before the Tranquil Garden. Also side note, it's off putting to me that so many fellow AFOLs seem so... purist? about Lego and act like "ew the Friends line" lol. Like okay, you aren't the target audience. Y'all don't have to keep repeating how much you hate mini-dolls every time the Friends line is brought up. I like both. I think City Beautiful made a hilarious video comparing Lego City and Heartlake City. Lego City being clearly a dangerous place to live. While there must be a reason Heartlake City residents are taller and thinner. It was very funny! edit to clarify not directed to Tiago, but other commenters.

I agree the modified botanical garden looks way better than the original. If two kits is generously judged as 10 out of 10, one kit should be judged as half (5) of that.

I love the buildings in the Freinds line as they are great for building a simple Lego city with heaps of detail without the need to get the really big expensive sets. But the downside is they are open back playsets, so they look great from the street, but not from the back. This set unfortunately looks great but the missing back is a massive turn off for me as it would be placed in a park or something, not on the side of a street

95% of the LEGO sets are usually priced the “same” meaning, if a set is $100 in the US it will be €100 in Europe. So yeah, this one having an “extra” €5 when I was expecting it to be just €80 feels slightly more expensive.

This set and tiny plotted plants match exactly the threshold of the two current GWP’s. Ordered! (In Danish currency, I didn’t check other). I think the butterflies could easily be modified to spin from the top, by having a pin going though the roof.

Yup, got 2 of those sets. Built them together into a solid building with modifications and custom pond, tree and a beehive behind glass. All on a 48x48 stud base with exterior gardens. Just finished modifying the hocus pocus house into a country watermill converted to cottage with pond and waterrace for the wheel. Custom tree and all on a 48x48 base.

Pro tip for getting stickers on straight, i use the brick separator end to lift it off the sheet and place it makes it sooo much easier to lineup esp if you can hold your fingers on both ends of whatever you're placing it on

I use the soapy water trick. It’s messy but so easy to slide stickers on perfectly. Only negative is that you can to wait for it to dry.
