Thanks I'm pleased you like it, and Yes, that's a very good point. At the moment, it's just a display piece, but when I eventually get round to building my Lego city, I might add a better way to open it up, depending on where it is and what access I need to it. Thanks for commenting.

I guess this is okay if you no longer want to interact with the shop figures you leave in the shop but I thought the fun was to move figures around and play. Clever though.

I guess it probably depends on your age. A younger fan of Lego will do more playing, a slightly older fan (like me) gets the enjoyment of building, displaying, modifying and city building. That's the beauty of Lego, it appeals to so many different people in so many different ways.
@ElectricianTS

Nice modifications. You can turn your solar panels horizontally in pairs to make them more realistic.

That's a good idea about the solar panels. I actually prefer he other solar panel piece, which I made a whole Solar Farm with: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHeqdmCim7B3fLc

yes, it was a really cool sticker sheet. Unfortunately, it was a Black Friday exclusive back in November, and they all seemed to sell out really quickly, especially as the set was also heavily discounted that weekend. There’s quite a few for sale on eBay. though!

I have all the Modular buildings since 2007, and the all open up by taking roof and floors off, so I'm happy to keep it like it is, but that's a great idea for people who like to open things up from the back.

My plan is to make this the ground flood of a 2 or 3 storey modular building. Possibly the 2nd floor would be a staff room/storage are for the store with a goods elevator.... whether this will happen or just remain in my head remains to be seen.
@MinifigJez
@MinifigJez 2 ай бұрын
I thought of doing a 2nd floor at some point. In teh UK you often get a modern looking shop on the ground floor, which has been changed many times over the years, and then a much older looking building above, as it's still in it's original state. - let me know if you ever do it ! Thanks for commenting.

Wow! That sounds amazing. I didn’t want to make mine much bigger, but prefer buildings with a roof and enclosed. The only thing I might do is add a second floor, so it’s taller but doesn’t take up any more space.

hey just wanted to ask how should I make it so I could take the roof off easily
@MinifigJez
@MinifigJez Жыл бұрын
The only thing that I can suggest is that you put down a layer of tiles instead of pates, and then add in just a few of these modified plates: www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=41740&name=Plate,%20Modified%201%20x%204%20with%202%20Studs%20with%20Groove&category=%5BPlate,%20Modified%5D#T=C then it's only being held down by a few studs, and should come off really easily. It's how Lego themselves make the modular buildings so that teh roof and floors come apart easily.
@Jalmaan
@Jalmaan 2 жыл бұрын
I think i like the grey door better! I dont think it needs to be green as it's the back door. Back doors of grocery stores are often heavy duty metal doors and arent necessarily the most pretty thing
@MinifigJez
@MinifigJez 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jalmaan, now I’ve lived with the door for a few days, I’m starting to,think you’re right. It would be nice to have a green door, but I think that the style of the door is too old fashioned for the style of the rest of the building. I had both door in my spare parts drawers, so it didn’t cost me anything to try them both. I’ll swap them over. Thanks for the comment.

Very nice. This is exactly what I plan to do with the Grocery Store I just ordered from US Lego online site. I did the same thing (added all enclosing walls and a roof with HVAC and roof access) to the recent gas station with two fully stocked MOC fridges.

Sounds cool - which set was it? Set #60257: Service Station or Set #60258: Tuning Workshop? I've got Tuning Workshop, and I plan to do the same thing to that set.
@arcturionblade1077
@arcturionblade1077 2 жыл бұрын
@@MinifigJez Oh, it's the Service Station although I do own the Tuning Workshop too (but it remains unbuilt; there aren't enough hours in the day). I think my favorite part of it was making a little MOC dumpster and placing it behind the service station before adding flame pieces to it, lol. Oh, and expanding the glass panels of the roof overhang section for the gas/petrol pumps so it actually covers vehicles from rain and the elements. I understand that Lego wants to make sets more affordable by skimping out on roofs and all four walls to enclose their City buildings. I see it as a challenge to finish them up properly even if it can be annoying having to use up your own spare pieces to do so. Anyway, keep up the great work! Your channel is very inspiring!
@MinifigJez
@MinifigJez 2 жыл бұрын
I like the sound of your service station MOC. And I know what you mean about enclosing buildings, the only ones that LEGO seem to enclose are the Modular Buildings. But... it's not a new thing, my very first LEGO set was a Shell Service Station, and even back then (1979) it didn't have a back wall !!!!! you can see it here: brickset.com/sets/377-1/Shell-Service-Station

I think a 2nd set is a great idea, as you could make the store so much bigger - I might wait and see if I can get it on sale sometime and make it a bit bigger, or... put the 2nd set on top and make it a 2 storey Grocery Store! (and a great idea about making the car park, I really like the new road plate system, but I do still have lots of the old road plates too)

Whenever I see sets of parts that look useful on sale, I generally buy them. Like this one (I got two a few years ago when they were half price): brickset.com/sets/10698-1/Large-Creative-Brick-Box If I ever visit a LEGO Store, I also make sure I check out the Pick-a-brick wall, and will fill up a few cups with any useful parts. These are a bargain, as you can see from my video about them here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZyVeId_bbuefdU Also sometimes if a regular set is on sale, I'll buy that and instead of making it, I'll put all teh parts in my storage. You can see where I store all my parts here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn7Je4CGqrh3iLM I hope that helps.

That's very kind of you to say, recently I went half way and started to make a few sets of instructions, and put them on Rebrickable, but to go the whole way and sell kits, would be a big undertaking, as I'd have to buy the parts in myself, to then sell on, as I don't have a huge personal parts collection. Maybe in the future, for smaller MOD's it could be an idea, or I could maybe get parts lists together. Thanks for commenting.

@MinifigJez
@MinifigJez Жыл бұрын
That's a difficult one, because I'm going to start building a LEGO City too, and I'm wondering if I should use MILS or not. If you're just starting out, and don't want to spend too much then don't use mils straight away, as it needs a LOT of lego pieces to make all the MILS plates. I think I will use teh new roads, with MILS, but the old road baseplates are really good too if you have them. And I suggest you just get the lego sets that YOU like the look of, as you'll rebuilding it for you! Some people get hung up on what other people will think of their city or how they do things... that's the best thing about Lego, everyone can do things slightly differently, and there's no wrong way! I hope the city goes well. (P.S. 1m subs would be amazing, but I doubt it will ever happen!!!)
