Hi Bricksie! Loving the rebuild progress! I'm not sure how you feel about LED light kits and LEGO, but would you ever consider using LED lights in your city lamp posts or other structures? After the rebuild, it seems like added functionality would be the next logical step!

I have them in my city, they look great but hugely reduce the modularity of the city as it's a pain to move buildings once they're wired in. Also it's tough to hide the wires

LEGO is my secondary hobby. I have a 450 square foot train layout in our attic. When I have vertical areas that I want to hide, I do flat facades that are designed to blend with the buildings and landscape of my layout. You could build basically make LEGO art panels on baseplates vertically and placed slightly recessed below your platform to give a feeling of depth without losing space. Mrs. Bricksie has already basically done a similar thing to hide the backs of Diagon Alley. It could be done in a way that is less parts intensive. Try making one and see how it looks.

Loving the rebuild so far and I agree, at first I liked the amusement park on the last table but as the show went on I realized moving over to the wider table was likely a much better plan. Can't wait to see what you decided and how it turns out!

Awesome progress! So much work done already, bravo! You could use photos of all the modular row buildings and use a layout program to plan the positions of the buildings on the platform, to simplify that part of the organization, and the rest of the horizontal table space use overhead pics to plan. Gaps in the buildings in front of the platform could be a canyon that opens up in places so you can see the train weaving in and out of view.

I agree with your current thinking for the location of the amusement park because although there are some tall structures such as the roller coaster and ferris wheel, they aren't solid builds and you can still see 'through' them. The raised platform can overhang the support legs to give room for whatever vertical lego structure you want behind the lower buildings, have you thought about 'arches' so that the open sections are between the platform legs? This would look cool using masonry bricks and foliage pieces and would even accommodate the roads that you want to have heading to the wall, you could use railway road crossings too plus the trains could still be seen running under the platform, easy access too - win win! 😁👍 I hope you like my suggestion, keep up the great work 👍

For the platform in the back build it as a shelf mounted directly to the wall so it doesn't compromise as much table space and allows for extra wiggle room to make sure everything fits correctly how you want it. It also helps with getting the train system behind it and other potential hidden treasures

hey I think the modulars should be arranged like they were before. the downtown core and residential looked amazing in the old layout and the raised platform will add alot of complexity and doesnt look realistic. I would suggest on the back wall some kind of residential area (with small road MILS) and on the middle tables the downtown core. I am sure you guys will kill the new layout!

I like your original plan of the amusement park on the 60 inch table because of the extra space, and think about the other amusement sets that are/could be coming in the future. Same goes with having a half baseplate between your modular buildings. It is important to let you city breathe, it gives the opportunity to add a bit of life to the city and do a bit of story telling of your own. Only thing I would suggest is having a brick built wall rather than using the rock wall pieces. Can't wait to see it all come together, its going to be epic

My suggestion for the layout is to have raised platform around the corner too. On the right side of the city pop culture buildings, skyscapers in the corner, then the rest of the modular towards the left, finishing with landscape/campground in the left corner. On the right/center table the amusement park, on the left/center table residential area, which is lower. On the left side of the city I would put Ninjago as an island in front, then the sea continues into beach and cargo area all the way till the campground. I hope I explain myself well.

I think what might look really nice also is to have some creatively designed stairways between the modulars every so often leading up to the second platform. This is a great opportunity to show of design skills and minifig placement. Also, I think what might look better is having the amusement park on the 60 inch table. This will allow for growth as well as make it a standout center piece of the city.

You have alot of ideas. I think moving the amusement park up a table and having the train run along the back under the platform is a good idea, but I think that would hide the pop culture buildings. Ultimately, I don't think you can avoid hiding sets in that particular part of the table so it's really up to you. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

The best part of your city is the downtown with modular buildings. In my opinion, this deserves the big table and can be done in a way similar to the old city, with long roads parallel to the table which gives depth and perspective. The rest will find its place around the city. No need for elevated platforms. When it comes to trains, I would do as you concluded before. No trains on tables, apart from the amusement park. You can rather put them under the tables, or more interestingly you could make a tube.

Hello Bricksie! I am really digging your new layout process. But you might be missing out on one huge factor with the shelf behind your modular buildings. What if you put the largest train tunnel under the modular buildings that are placed on top. I believe that you really dig story telling and I am wondering if you could build a mine that the train goes through and have "windows" ( open areas ) to see within the mining area. You could even have lego figures discovering a dinosaur bones. Keep up the great work Jordan! You rock!

What about using the dead space under your back row of modulars? It could be a fantastic tunnel system for your train to weave in and out of - occasionally popping out between 2 modulars and then winding back around before re-entering another tunnel somewhere elsewhere. There's plenty of space under there for 2, maybe even 3 rail lines!

A couple of thoughts here: 1 - transform the 3 tables in 3 different city areas, like (left to right) seaside + beach + port on the first table, residential + downtown in the middle one and mountain + foretlst on the last one (lifting the mountain into the corner). 2 - make a gallery for the train behind the modulars, so to be able to line up the road on the edge, the modulares right behind and the tracks hidden in the galleries (you can use burps to hide the gallery AND give support to the coverage of the cardboxes) 3 - lay the streets following the shape of the tables, so to have the buildings aligned to the long sides of them, and not the short sides. That way, they will not end up "blocking" each other

Great job Bricksie, I'm looking forward to the new city layout. You could reduce the width of the raised platform by 4-6 studs and use this difference for your covering build. It would also offer support to the base plates, while giving you the full 16 studs for the train track along the front. GL

You could do a subway system under the tables to run the trains. You could then have a cut out section in one of the tables to allow for the train tracks to come overground for a portion then another cut out on another table to go back underneath the tables again to complete the loop. You can then build in subway stations etc.

If you put popculture on the right side you can build in platform 9 3/4 to access the train, then next to the amusement park entrance you can have a platform for that too, a underground/train station in the city and a final one on the left side for the beach/ camp grounds making the entire city feel a little more alive.

I agree with your final assessment. Having the amusement park on the larger middle table and the train running under the platform. Personally I'm not a fan of the whole elevated building idea, and would want my primary modular buildings (Town square, Pet Shop, Police, Fire, etc.) on the other middle table for easy accessibility and a more "city like" layout with streets separating them. Still have the trains run around the back, but save the back wall for misc modulars like the Quicky Mart, random houses, etc. Kinda like a suburb. I like the visual of all the modulars lined up at the back as you want it, but ultimately would prefer the all around access and true city feel.

In all honesty, I have never loved the theme in the Lego community of doing walls of buildings like the plan you have. I have always liked the traditional block style like you had previously. I know you have tried this layout before in the old house and it had a short lifespan before reverting back to block style. Either way, it's Lego, so it can always be changed, and thanks to your recent mils conversion that is even easier.

After buying the new style road plates and realising how much those little 2x4 tiles with the white road print line on it is, has nobody thought of using tiles of other colors to make a yellow line down the street, or a solid line with a dotted line? You could easily do this and specify roads better as well! I was going to keep this idea to myself, but i would much rather like to see you try this out on a road plate for me Bricksie! Would you try this out for me and show it on a video? If it works like i am seeing in my head it could be something everyone who builds a lego city might start doing!

I would consider having the big table for amusement park. Not because it's my favorite part of the city, but because it requires a lot of space. Especially when you think of how much it consumed in the previous layout and that new rides will come out soon. You would have to compromise a lot if you choose to put it up against the wall. And I don't think it would be a lot different with the height, compared to all the other tall buildings you have. That's just my opinion.

Hmm, personally I don't think you need the risers at the back. I think that it'd look cool to have a city blocks layout, where you might have a block of modulars, but have some of them with their sides against the wall. Imagine, say, a 4x4 square of modulars, but it's cut off, so just one half of it is visible, like it's sticking out of the wall. In the center of the half square, you could set some taller, skyscraper type buildings, so that things are more built-up along the back wall. You might need more skyscrapers for that though. If you do go with the risers at the back, I would say that if you can't build it all out of Lego (I know, that's a massive suggestion, even if you got duplo for the bulk of it.) then perhaps you could disguise it, or the edges/entrances of it as part of the city's infrastructure, like an underground highway/train tunnel. You could even use those ramps from the road plate sets, and have the MILS plates go down onto the old road plates under the risers, just to make use of all those plates. Another idea, instead of using millions of BURPs and such to build a facade around the risers, if you make the risers 10 or 15 inches tall, you could use baseplates on their sides as the facade, and then use some clever SNOT techniques to build stuff on them, like say a staircase going to the upper level, a broken, grassy cliffside with a half-fallen tree, and a lot of back-alley type places, with bonus points if they're in a state of mild disrepair, like a real city would have, if there was a three story high cliff that the entire downtown was built around.

Hey Jordan, love the new layout and it makes sense to raise the modulars that are against the wall, in my layout I push the lower modulars right against the raised platform due to space, building a rock 'face' all along doesn't make much sense as you can't really see it - if you do flat arches etc underneath the raised area, you could break up the raised section by having areas in-between with rocks / greenery etc and a short road bridge linking each raised section - bridges also look very interesting and allow you to put things underneath (in addition to the track..)

Hi. Since you ask in my opinion, I would focus on making it the most realistic. Tallest buildings in the back of the room, with one straight road in the middle - (big city). Then smaller in front. Everything on one level. In the corner, in the front of the room a larger mountain, with a lookout point - and train track go through. Does it have to be train tracks in the back of the room - maybe it will be too much?. Either way, keep up the good work. Exciting to follow :)

you can also make like an european small city. with some rivers and a waterfall flowing trough the city. some train/road over and under-passes, some small park spaces in some areas and a large in another.

You do not really need the sidewalk on the side of the road without the modular buildings, so if you put some separation between the road and the train tracks (one or two studs wide perhaps a low fence) you could free up space that could be used behind the buildings. (I have not read all the comments, so I am not sure if anyone already suggested this)

Really cool!! Is there a smaller RC Lego car? If so it would be really cool if you put a go pro on it and drive around the city once everything is in place. :)

I've seen some MILS plates where the road and rail is on the same base plate. They looked nice as well. Compresses the amount of sidewalk but could work.

Agree on this, move the road close to the edge of the mils plate on the side that is against the modular as they already have a footpath, and you gain 8 studs, then have a reduced footpath on the track side
