LEGO CITY UPDATE! Placing The 2023 LEGO Modular Jazz Club

The 2023 LEGO Jazz Club Modular Building releases January 1st for $230 USD and it's time for the yearly tradition of adding the new modular to my LEGO City! You could do alley ways to separate some of the buildings and give the city a more real feel. Fill the alleys with MOC garbage, cats, garbage cans etc. You could mils the alleyways to make them interchangeable too. I wish I could afford to do this, but I love watching yours and Ross' city change. Keep it up, looks good so far.

The jazz club portion of the modular looks like stand alone building because to me the pizza portion looks like is attached to the building to the right of it as they seem to share the same color pallet. So great place for it.

I'm a certified urban planner and the development issues you are tackling in your Lego city are use (residential or commercial) vs. form (height, setbacks.) It can be a tough fit to have dwellings so close to dining and entertainment businesses. Restaurants can attract pests like rats and have garbage smells. I recommend a decorative fence or planted vegetative screening buffer between the diner and the houses. And my concern with the pizza shop is the setback from the street is not uniform with the jazz club and assembly square, it creates a blind spot for pedestrians. Also the rooftop greenhouse is lower than the adjoining buildings and would be shaded most of the day. The solution would be to swap locations of the pizzeria and the blue/yellow building of Assembly Square. Then the block would have uniform setbacks and heights, while the greenhouse would get more sun.

It seems to me that swapping part of the assembly square for the pizzeria would entail a lot of work especially with your mils. Perhaps you could give the pizzeria a little breathing room by building a half base plate with maybe a tree, a bench, maybe additional outdoor seating for the diners and placing that between the two buildings … just open it up a little. I very much like how the building colors work where you’ve placed the Jazz Club! 💙💥 👍

I love the idea of splitting assembly square up. The building on the left is already a separate baseplate. And would make almost a nice corner piece being on the other side

I really love the pizza shop, and the greenhouse above it. But I don't really care for the Jazz Club itself, so I probably won't get that set. It's just too dark and honestly, I don't really like jazz music, and I just don't like the look of it. I wish the Jazz Club had been small, and the pizza shop had been the main build, then I probably would have gotten it!

You could try the new modular next to boutique hotel and move the existing modular towards assembly square. The greenhouse gets more light there and the existing modular has luckily lower part at the opposite side of the three floor building. They complement each other nicely

I’ve never been interested in the modular sets. I will say though this is definitely one of the best ones. I still am not getting it. The only theme I collect is Star Wars. Can’t wait to get the 501st Battle Pack and Tie Bomber on January 1st

€230 for this set is a joke. Lego is going off the deep end with their pricing. The fact lan members don’t mention it and glaze over it gives the reviews a sense of dishonesty. Spades a spade and this isn’t worth €230

The pale yellow of the pizzeria is not quite right and I’d love to see someone modify that colour or integrate the pale yellow with another more bold colour so it isn’t as washed out l. It lacks definition

Wasn’t sure if I was going to get the jazz club or not, but seeing it next to the detective’s office (one of my favorite Modulars ever) makes me want it. It still won’t be a first day purchase, but I will probably get it eventually.

I think the modular looks fine how you placed it. If you like the greenhouse on top why don’t you follow the instructions and make duplicates of them to add more on the rooftops

Yeah it works in the spot you picked. The new modular is quite deep, meaning the back wall is pretty far back and for me that adds justification to the price. Its a good looking city, Still, I would love to see MOC buildings. I am a fan of highrise buildings, and I would love to see them take a crack at it. My ninjago style city will have high-rises and be built at Ninjago scale (1 floor = 6-7 bricks tall) and that helps cuts costs, but still I think its possible to do well at a reasonable price at this larger scale.
