In my opinion, a lot of gwp's could be sold pretty well as a regular set. And in this case: absolute. Next to a small set of Gollum, Frodo and Sam which is now included in the big set which does not make any sense. I mean: the only way they see Barrad Dur is in the distance.

This set exists for one reason and one reason only....to pressure fans/collectors to make an early impulse buy for the Barad-dûr set. It's a goofy looking Fel Beast at best and glad they didn't pack in the Witch King with it....which would only pressure fans/customers to run out and buy Barad-dûr. How about give us a $50-60 set taking inspiration from the great Ninjago dragons?? A $200-250 Barad-dûr, non playset/architecture design? Take inspiration from what they are doing with Star Wars. Would be nice to set some LOTR diorama sets and mini scale sets in the vein of Star Wars sets.

There is no message to get. LotR had an entire affordable line already when the movies were still relevant. Did everyone forget? Kids aren't going to buy them now. Only adult collectors. It wouldn't be profitable at all for Lego to do another entire line based on those older movies. I love the LotR movies, but I agree with Lego in this case as it wouldn't make sense financially. Rivendell must have done well since they made Barad-dur in the same style / price point.

Next up 10k brick Minas Tirith featuring The Witch King, gandalf the white, theoden, couple of soldiers and orcs. All that for the very premium and low price of 1000 big bucky bois. Heck they might even do battle packs to fill up the set and earn a bit extra ontop.

I actually like the head design they achieved without eye stickers. The fell beast eyes were so small anyways. Plus no stickers in sight (from the front) with everything on display gives that LEGO “purest” feel. Chefs kiss to both of these on display. No doubt we’ll get smaller sets in the near future. I can see LEGO doing Bag End next. Also imagine we’ll get another Fell Beast retail set that’s like the recent Hungarian Horntail. As for Minis Tirith, I think we’ll get a big set similar to Barad-Dur with it being a display set in the front, and minifig scale scenes in the back. And finally nano scale options like the recent hogwarts castle

I ordered Barad Dur at midnight so I could go to our certified store an hours drive away to collect it and ensure I got the gwp. It sold out by morning and the shop only had two. Main Lego has sold out the gwp too. I think both sets are fantastic and super excited to now have all 3 LOTR sets to build along with gwp. 😁😁

For next year, they should do Minas Tirith or Bag End as the big set and a few dioramas. Like the water horses / arwens standoff from Fellowship to go with Rivindell, a proper Mount Doom diorama to go with Barad-Dur or a Pelennor Field diorama. I like the idea of the gwps having something to to with the big set as well, so they could do Gandalfs carriage or one of the Gondor beacons for either Bag End or Minas Tirith. Some battle packs would also be really cool!

I think the biggest reservation regarding this is it should have been part of the set. Like orthanc which had an ent.. you could almost be certain this was designed to be part of the main set, but the spiteful corporate lego face won the day and made it a fomo box. I haven't built mine yet, but the set with the fell beast anywhere around it seems to look significantly better than without it.

The main problem with this set is it being a GWP exclusive to buying the barad dur set The worst GWPs are ones that while relating to the bigger set are exclusive to them. These small GWPs should not be locked behind $400 sets, they should just be widely released as a set

(I generally use my VIP points for big-set discounts, and decided a while ago that Rivendell was going to be my big purchase this year. Haven’t been buying much because of budget, but by scanning old instructions and old Target receipts [thanks for those new ways to gain points, TLG!], I finally got the points I need to make Rivendell affordable a couple months ago. So I’ve just been waiting for either a desirable GWP or a sale. Love this Fell Beast set; no interest at all in Barad-dûr, even if I could afford it (whole bunch of other LEGO higher on my list, if money wasn’t tight). So I was thinking I might order Rivendell tomorrow, if that would get me a Fell Beast.)

Lego gwp are kinda missing the mark lately, consider the battle droid carrier and how as a £26 set it would've 100% been one of the best selling sets of the year as it is an amazing set that is a huge battle droid army builder and yet for some reason lego decided to make it a limited time gwp and the same thing is happening here. I was lucky enough to get 2 droid carriers and yet whilst i do plan on getting barad dur, i won't have the money in time to get the gwp and so i feel like im missing out on a set with a figure and i build i really want and would buy separately from barad dur if i had to bc i wont have enough money for 1 to 4 weeks

I’ve been saying this for a while since the Riverdale set and the dungeons and dragons set that they could be broken down into multiple smaller sets at the $50-$75 range and then be module like you build one by the other one build that and then you put in together and makethe castle or you make Riverdale you don’t have to spend for two car payments or half of my mortgage to get a Lego set. If that were to happen, I would be the first in line because $50. That’s pretty affordable for me. You know
