Lego Horizon Adventures Review

Hey Ziff Davis or IGN or whoever is in charge, are the EG video team not allowed to review games themselves anymore? No disrespect to the EG website team (I love their stuff too!) but I watch this channel for Ian, Zoe & Jim and it just feels like their input in the channel is diminishing by the week. Almost all of the reviews over the past few months have been taken directly from the website. Also, where are the livestreams? Where are the let's plays? It is beginning to feel like EG is just another IGN clone and this channel deserves better than that!

I don't generally jump in the comments, but I'd like to point this out as well. I rarely see Zoe anymore, and Ian feels so stiffled now. It honestly has me teetering on unsubbing due to lost interest (and I hate that I'm even thinking it)

I see clearly that this game is aim at the forgotten kids between 7 and 11, too old for games aimed at children like previous lego games and arguably too young for games like the prober Zero Dawn. I see it as a safe bet for this target audience

NGL, this game is made for 7 to 14 year old kids who are too old for the other lego games but too young for the original game, and people who don't have 60 hours to sink into a complex Ubisoft-ified RPG. IDK, it seems like this review is hugely coloured by personal preference without consideration for the miriad types of people who play videogames.

Looks fantastic and combat seems pretty fun, plus the comedic bits are my kind of stupid as well. Not a lego games fan but I'll play this one for sure.

Perhaps it's for the people who liked Minecraft Dungeons. It seems more like a Lego attempt at that with a Horizon skin than anything else. Pretty though.

IGN rated it much higher than Eurogamer, for what it's worth. Eurogamer's always had a pretty dim view of this franchise: their most favourable reviews could be summed up as "damning with faint praise", and until Zoe joined, the video team wouldn't even mention it except to show disdain.

They've actually always been a 7 or 8 for me. Probably even this game, but that's fine because kids don't ask for much and co-op is always fun. Not going to view the first Lego Star Wars game with rose tinted glasses, it was fun, but also it was no masterpiece.

On the plus side, most reviews are way more positive than this one! Metacritic says it's averaging 71% so far - mostly favourable reviews, slightly fewer mixed, and only a small minority actually unfavourable.

So who is to blame, Guerilla or Gobo? If it's Guerilla it doesn't bode well for the next proper game.
