The color is perfectly retro for U.S. culture in the 1960s and 1970s, when a radio like this would have been popular. But that color may not have been universally retro around the world, which is why it may not seem retro for Tiago.

​@@BJNemethExactly that. I have a lot of old radios in my home in Brasil, and none of this color. I'd have to check the models to know the country of origin, but clearly different countries have different popular models.

My thoughts exactly. A lot of appliances back then were either that seafoam green or a light pink.

Colors are cyclical. That teal color was popular in the 1950s so it reads retro to me.

Yeah this colour screams retro radio to me. I have a modern "retro style" Roberts styled after 50s radios that is the exact colour of this Lego set.

Something missed here that another review I saw mentioned- when you play something through your phone inside the radio, it sounds muffled like you would expect it to be from an actual radio from the era. Great review all the same!

When I was 10 years old in 1964 I got a Westinghouse Portable radio similar to this and the color I had is almost identical to the Lego version. 50 years later I still have the radio 📻 and it still works

The phone holder is nice, but it would have been cool to have the insides built to show the old transistors and speaker, though it can be argued that the Fender amp that came with the Stratocaster did the same thing, just at a smaller scale.

Easily one of my most anticipated sets for this year. Looks fun, and unique to build, displays convincingly, and has one of best functions to date. Swapping the sound box made it sound eerily haunted. Perfect for Halloween.

I think the best part of this is that it actually displays really nice and doesn't completely look like a toy. You can have this in your living room and it wouldn't be out of place. You can't really say that for most Lego things.

That light blue color is very close to what was used for the 1950s Chevy Bel Airs. I think the color scheme fits. Switching sound bricks is the best 😂

Just wanted to say as a vintage radio collector I have several in that same light green pastel including my favorite, a 1950s General Electric transistor portable. I only wish it came with a (fake of course) tan leather case which many of these radios came with.

Aqua was used a lot on tvs, radios, refrigerators and other kitchen gadgets in the 50s in the states . Maybe that’s where they got retro from.

i think the colour is very much 50s 60s diner/home kitchen. I really really hope someone brings out a radio that you can build into it. But great tip with putting the speaker in there, that makes much more sense.

Supercool design and play features. Maybe that JBL speaker could face forward if you remove the phone holder. And maybe some small modification to the back could allow a power cable to it so you could use it remotely anytime with your phone. Lego Ideas Indeed!

Very curious of what you would think of some recent animal-themed Creator 3-in-1 sets like the giraffe/lion/gazelle and the fox/owl/squirrel. Those also routinely shine in NPU and building solutions.

In defense of the phone holder in the back: phones have a much more consistent profile than Bluetooth speakers. Yeah, Samsung made the weird one that folds in half, but the rest of the phones in circulation have the same form factor of wide in the front, slim in the sides. Bluetooth Speakers come in many different shapes and sizes, and a LEGO designer would have sarcastic amounts of fun catering to even a “one size fits most” clamp as seen in this model. Fill in logic gaps when they occur, pls and thx.

to bad they couldn't of made a working radio, where you just decorate the box it's inside of, it's still neat looking. (I used to have a little pocket radio that had a speaker it would of almost fit inside except it had an antenna so couldn't get it inside that)

Nice, but I still would rather have seen the Ideas submission "Classic Vintage Radio" from 2021 make it - it's an impressive recreation of an actual radio, though being of local manufacture probably not so known outside of Norway. (Must select "expired ideas" under "Project Phase" when searching on Ideas). As to the colours the aqua is quite fifties/sixties, though I'm not so sure of the combination with brown.

Id say it fits “Retro” just fine with that teal colour, as Retro means “In the style of something old”, not “something that is actually old”. If it was called “Vintage Radio” or “50s Radio” then a darker colour would be expected.

The teal is very 50s/60s either way. I have a Roberts radio styled on the radios of the period in exactly this colour. The bakerlite style retro brown reads slightly earlier than that with often a different radio design.
