Lego’s absolutely killing it with the 8-wide speed champions cars. I’m not a car guy myself, but ever since they switched to the 8 wide builds I’ve been hooked The Mercedes AMG looks especially good imo, even with its flaws

But then we run into the tobacco problem. I would love a 1970's Lotus but they were sponsored by John Players, so you know Lego's not going to touch that with a 10ft barge pole. And you can't just leave it off because that was the main sponsor so the model would look really plain. Just my thoughts though

Honestly, in terms of builds and value, Speed Champions seems to be Lego's best theme right now, it's not even a contest. And that's coming from someone who doesn't even have an interest in cars. The designer(s) for these sets should seriously get a raise. On the other hand, whoever decided to include so many stickers and where to place them instead of prints should be fired. (I'm exaggerating of course, but it's really annoying)

I mean, it makes sense to have so many stickers, since the f1 cars have lots of sponsors on the cars, and having them as stickers works since there's also a lot of people who don't care about f1 and will just want a nice looking open-wheeled car.

I think LEGO uses stickers so they can be removed if you decide to build something else with the parts as LEGO builders often do. If they printed all the parts that required stickers then those parts would have very limited rebuild value. Imagine trying to buid a MOC using parts that were printed. You'd have spaceships that had flames and shapes and assorted nonsense and were manufactured by Octan. It just wouldn't work. The nice thing about stickers is you don't have to use them if you don't want to 😀

Prints would inflate the price therefore contradicting the value they offer and if you take your time and apply them properly the intended look is achieved.

Imo the only way Lego can make these 8 wide builds any better than they already are is by going 100% prints! The level up from the 6 wide days is crazy!

The $30 speed champions set are fantastic. Such a good price for the two vehicle builds and when it drops to $24 it’s a steal. This one is no exception. The stickers are what u expect and headlights printed should be the standard.

I'm surprised they went with a normal yellow for Valtteri's camera pod. I feel like the new "vibrant yellow" would have been a much better, maybe even perfect, match. Man do I want the F1 car, but I have no interest in the AMG One, and for 45€ here in Sweden... ouch

That has been my complaint all the time, why make 2-packs at all? Those that want both could buy both if they were separate, and those that only want one of them would not have to pay extra for a car they don't want. Sounds like a win-win for the customers, and I can only imagine Lego selling more cars in total that way too. I for one would definitely have bought more Speed Champions cars if they were sold separately. For example the Ford GT, but at ~65€ that would feel like paying an extra 45 for the Bronco which I have no interest in. So I haven't.

This is the first Speed Champions set I've ever purchased, I absolutely love it! Fantastic building techniques and a satisfying final product at a reasonable price! The stickers are a pain, but honestly don't bug me as much as I expected. I'm absolutely going to get more sets in this theme.

I think the teal parts of those big fin stickers on the Project One are to help orient you to make sure you’re putting them on correctly. I didn’t notice the “AMG” on those stickers at all until after I flipped the fin backwards. This was my first Speed Champions set, solely because of the F1. I’m not a car guy but I ended up loving both vehicles. I think the spoiler of the F1 could have been a tiny bit bigger but otherwise it looks perfect!

Bought this after the opening of the Leicester Square London Store and I'm truly in love with the AMG ONE, especially after playing around with it in Forza Horizon 5. Great build, but yes the stickers were a pain, especially in the heat.

When three stickers need to be connecting like on the Project 1 (or the 2021 Supra headlights) I've learned choosing your gaps can be better than centering the middle stickers to minimize them all. I pushed the front sticker all the way against the windscreen, and connected the back two. Instead of looking like 3-4 separate windows, the single remaining gap just looks like a grey B-pillar. (A feature accurate to the real car, just not in black. Ultimately that all just comes down to personal preference though.

Noting the wet tire designation of the blue striping along the sidewalls. A detail overlooked SO often. As a die hard car guy and long time lego fan, I’m so thankful I came across this channel. Man regional pricing has absolutely killed this set for me, $70 aud, normally we would expect a $30 usd set to go to $40-50 aud, absolutely outrageous

You’re absolutely right. The clear stickers with the new Lamborghini Countach work well. But the printed parts, such as the hub caps, are so much better.

@@Gzilla313 Clear stickers and dust don't fair well, which I assume is probably why, although I think I would still prefer clear stickers given that I've had bad experiences with non-clear stickers cracking on older sets while clear ones of the same age are doing fine. What I don't get is why they don't bring the sticker cuts closer to the edges, as well as trim around some of the excess sides. What I mean is, realistically, the stickers only need 2 edges/1 corner to align with a surface (such as at 3:00, they have 3 squared edges already, they don't need the grey area at all), and its just easier to line up stickers that are closer in dimension to the designated surface.

Really rad, I haven't fooled with LEGOs since I was a kid but I'm now looking to get back into them again and I mostly like the cars so these "Speed Champion" sets will be an awesome way to get started again! I'll mainly be collecting these and the "Technic" sets as those are in my primary age range.

For the f1 if you want the person in the car but lower to make it more realistic take off the legs then it will look a bit better

Yet again, these two are so well done. The F1 is especially great. The AMG One could be a bit rounder, but it doesn't bother me too much. Overall, this is a very good set.

I have bought a lot of these cars. I have noticed all the windshields have some scratches on them, and I once got a replacement from lego, but that windshield had even more scraches, LOL

Great review as always, JANG! Your videos are not only informative but also very entertaining! I have an original Lego Formula 1 Racer Set 5540 from 1986. I’ve had is since I was a kid. You mentioned how the formula 1 cars have changed over the years as well as the lego sets. If you would like to do a review or a comparison of the old 5540, I would be happy to send it to you. I absolutely love the heat extractor design on the Project One, it's absolutely perfect with those fender parts build sideways! However, I gotta say those seat backs look pretty dang uncomfortable! I'm not nearly as impressed with the AMG as JANG is, but then I'm not a F1/Indy style car guy.

I built this last weekend while hanging out with some friends and talking. Sets like this are perfect for that kind of situation. They don't take up a lot of space, they're cheap (I got it from a Target for $20), and the build is constantly changing and surprising. I personally didn't mind the stickers, although I don't like that the grey stickers on the Project One are a totally different color than the grey bricks. It's weird because normally it's not so starkly different!

Wish Lego would create more unique wheel covers for these, having the same 5 spoke or 9 spoke wheels on every car makes them look more generic. The 6 wide cars had so much more variety in their wheel covers.

Very nice looking cars, especially the F1. I don't think I ever knew Mercedes did super cars and F1 cars before. Soooo many stickers though! I wonder how much the sets would cost if those were all prints haha. Although, the Speed Champions sets are basically like model car kits made of LEGO, and those can have a lot of decals at times. So I guess it works if you look at it that way? Stickers are still annoying to put on, though!

My tip for the W12, is to remove the Lewis’ (or whoever else you use) legs and then place him in the cockpit like that. His hands will be a tiny bit high up but the head will be in the perfect spot

I think Lego needs a new canopy piece and a side window with the same lean. It is the only part where they never get a good look on the sports cars these days. The canopy should ditch the angle on the side so they have more freedom to print as needed. Still, the Project One is a lot better than the Lotus and evokes a lot of the feel of the original.

I don't know if it's that I was just working under a regular ceiling light without any extra lighting, or I got lucky, but the grey stickers on the Project One in my set were a very close match to the plastic. Speaking of stickers, a funny thing's happened since I started collecting Speed Champions last year - I used to appreciate the detail from stickers but dread having to apply them, but with this wave I found myself kind of enjoying the process of lining them up as close as possible, and the satisfaction when I got them right on the edge. Would be nice of course not to have those gaps, but still, every set I opened up I was genuinely looking forward to stickering up this time.

The 8 wide fits nicely with the lego ideas vehicles (the ecto1 and the delorean) so it's noce to have vehicle sets at the same scale now.

I feel like the wheels were undersized for some of the six wide Speed Champion cars, now they are starting to look a little more undersized on these larger models. I hope LEGO comes up with a slightly larger wheel in the future.

I have the 1:19 scale Ferrari F1 car from the Lego speed racer line from 2008 and I really wish they would make more of those. It was one of the sets that brought me out of my Lego dark age or at least make more of these 8 stud wide F1 cars from other teams.

Man the stickers on the sloped pieces for the Project One's side window and next to the F1 car's fin look awful. Patterns that cover multiple faces of a brick, or must cover it end-to-end without leaving ugly gaps, should absolutely be printed.

the only sticker issue i had is the stickers for the amg one being folded and messed up. with that, 3 stickers were off and creased

I removed the strange hinge bricks from inside the car as they pushed the figure up right so there wasn't enough clearence for the head with the helmet on. It doesn't fit at all with the cap/hair piece on.

In the past week or so, I have built all the new Speed Champions sets as well as the new Technic RC car, and I am SOOOOO SICK OF STICKERS!!!! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! 😂 I LOVE Speed Champions. I have every single set they’ve released so far, and they are GREAT sets, even the older 6-wide cars, but I would GLADLY pay more money for them just for all printed pieces instead of stickers. I’d happily pay an extra 5 to 10 bucks for everything to be printed.
