Lyon didn’t say the playoffs don’t matter. He said it’s not about the standings or playoffs. I think what he’s saying is if they don’t focus on where they are in the standings or where they are in playoff seeding and just focus on practicing and playing the way they’re supposed to, that they’ll end up in the playoffs. Last year for a while they were nearly a shoe in for playoffs and collapsed for a month. You can’t get comfortable because you’re in good shape for a while

Dude above is right, lyon didnt say he doesnt care about playoffs or that they dont matter. Im glad these guys arent looking at ONLY the playoffs. They have a big hole to dig themselves out of. And they are doing it! Its the right attitude. They got to play each game and let the standings tske care of themselves. Nobody wants to be on a losing redwings team. Nobody. Thats not why anyone plays for the redwings. Clearly, they have the right attitude about how to go about winning. Lets hope it keeps up. Det in the past has been known to beat great teams, and lose to lesser teams. In my opinion this will be one of the tests for them. Will they keep that intensity while playing not so great teams? Lets hope so.

This shows that Yzerman is not blind deaf and dumb. It's not like he made a snap decision and said "Hey Todd, you busy tonight?" No. Yzerman went through a process to decide on Todd as the best available replacement. Whether this took weeks or months I don't know but what I do know is that SY is aware of what's happening and he's still steering the ship in the right direction. Will he ever get the team back to contention? I don't know. Do we have a better person to try and make it happen? I don't think so.

Right now, a lot of teams ahead of Detroit have been losing. Bruins and Lightning have lost 4 straight. Ottawa 2 straight. Pens 3 straight. The hottest team is Montreal. all others in the East are pretty much at .500 or less the last 10. Wings next 4 games all at home Ottawa, Chicago, Seattle, and San Jose. They win all 4, they may leap frog a couple of more teams. Wings have a game or 2 to make up on 4 of the 6 teams ahead of them. They win the next 4 they could be a wild card team, if the teams ahead of them start losing a few games.

Lalonde is going to be a Lalaughing stock if the players keep saying the mindset and motivation changed for the better. So what was Derek doing? Kane said their fall camp was the hardest he ever endured, did the Red Wings practice too hard in the preseason and have no gas when the regular season start? Eventually we will get the answers about the motivations for Dereks short tenure
