It's kind of a skewed stat. Vancouver is a low shooting team, meaning where other teams just pelt the goalie with shots and pray one goes in, the Canucks are only shooting on high quality opportunities - mixed with some puck luck. They know if they don't score they're not getting the puck back in the O zone, so it's better to pass.

Trust me, 90% of the Oiler fan base has been literally vomiting in their mouth in disbelief with how historically bad Skinner has been. This series may be far different if Skinner was even just a little below average. The other 10% are clueless optimists who refuse to see and or acknowledge the facts and stats as to how embarrassingly bad he really is. This is one of those moments in Knoblauch's NHL coaching career that if he continues to bet on Skinner, Knoblauch will be the 2nd most hated person in Edmonton. Just like Woodcroft, when Woodcroft went back to Skinner putting up shockingly similar numbers last year instead of sticking with Campbell who was beating Skinner in all playoff metrics. Skinner, at this juncture, is not even close to being at a pro NHL level and putting him back in net would be complete insanity.

As a former goaltender there is two playoff teams this year i wouldn't want to play for n most fans think they're good. Those teams are Toronto and Edmonton as they are both offensive heavy as they're both extremely weak at team defense and that's what really wins championships.

It's team defense, oilers just suck at it n rely on outscoring opponents which will not work against top teams in the playoffs. Everybody bitching about goaltending is literally insane, he sucks or is inconsistent because he doesn't trust his teams defense. If it was only Skinner and not 3-4 goalies prior to him "sucking" then maybe he would be to blame. Insanity is doing the same thing over n over again expecting a different result = oiler n Charmin leaf fans.

⁠@@tihseht472Skinner is also young and inexperienced. They have thrown him to the wolves. He was a rookie last year and should be developing as a backup for a few seasons before becoming a starter. A lot of goaltending relies on experience and hockey IQ which is developed. At this level it’s huge leap and so he needs to get settled in. Some really bad goals against him are due to inexperience. Working on seeing past screens and anticipating shots you can’t see through screens, etc comes from learning and also not every goalie is really good at them. Sorokin is a goalie who can be solved through screening. Crashing the net and stuff is effective against Vasy. These are developed goalies who have been solved but Skinner hasn’t even developed to a pint where teams really need to solve him since his lack of experience already puts him at a massive disadvantage.

Most of those low save % playoff goalies are mostly from the 80s and early 90s! Back in the day when goaltending wasn't as consistently good and when we had many of the best offensive players the game has ever seen too no less!

Skinner is fine. Vancouver had the best shooting percentage all year. Skinner is losing games so yes he is getting scored against. Again Silovs isn't one of the greatest goalies of all time. He's unlikely to be Ken Dryden. He is playing well. Good for him. Skinner is struggling. It's a shame. But crazy stats from small sample size, playing on a bad defensive team and playing the best shooting team in the NHL. Edmonton can't go with Calvin Pickard. Maybe give Campbell another try.

Agreed. Too much projection and focus on a very small sample size. Look at Pettersson. He has 4 points in 9 games. That projects as a 36 point regular season. Definitely not worth $11.6M/yr.

I know posts aren't goals, but Oilers hit a lot of posts that game and I think they had the mentality that they could infinitely beat Silovs - because it seemed like every time one of the big guys really turned it on they DID beat him and hit the post. The Canucks and Silovs kept the puck out of the net beautifully at the end, but I think we have to acknowledge that despite Skinner, the Oilers were quite close to again outscoring their problems.
