Excellent approach to what the Leica M system brings to one's photography (excellent examples too, thanks). I also enjoyed the little tips that you shared. I thought I had "invented Luke-warm water" (meaning there was nothing new in "my invention") and I was being idiosyncratic for setting my jpg to black and white (and also keeping the DNG file for color) for the same very reasons you specified. Obviously you figured it out without some 25 years of black and white film and 20 years of digital cameras ! ;o) Bravo. I have always refrained from using spot metering but the way you describe it, linked with aperture priority auto-exposure, makes good sense and encourages me to try it. Thanks again for your time, humour and approach.

This “slowing down” experience with Leicas can be done with most cameras in my experience if you just shoot 100% manual focus lenses. So slap a Voigtlander 18 or 27 on your Xpro (ovf/evf) or other Fujis or adapt M mount lenses to your Fuji or Nikon or Canon or Sony and the “slowing down” feels the same as my M10R. What I don’t hear many talk about that took me years to figure out what I lost moving from DSLRs to mirrorless is shooting with an OVF and then the delayed “how did it turn out” dopamine hit by chimping (or later seeing on your monitor). And great photos by the way! The Thypoch 28 truly is mindblowing for the price.
@hunterhart111 күн бұрын
I think my biggest take away, like in my 5Dmark iii video is, like you said.. optical viewfinder but you dont get that from fuji because you can't actually focus through optical viewfinder YET, unfortunately. The rangefinder works for my nose so I can really get in there. I started with optical and it is very nostalgic. I have more videos on this. Thank you for watching and yes the Thypoch slaps hard.
@Malick33311 күн бұрын
@ yeah man closest we can get for that is the Xpro OVF with the tiny bottom right EVF for critical focus. I get some people don’t care about these things but after shooting for 10-15 years and good shots being no problem these little nuances become HUGE factors in the shooting experience. Kinda like driving a manual muscle car vs a Porsche GT3 with paddleshifters. For me, the Leica rangefinder experience is the most enjoyable. And can always throw a visoflex on if you REALLY need to overcome the ovf limitations (ie shooting wider than 24 or say shooting at 0.95/1.1 with a 50mm). I’ll check out your 5DM3 video as the 5DM2 was my first “Holy Grail” camera 🤣
@Malick33311 күн бұрын
Also yeah totally agree that after getting used to shooting with a rangefinder/style positioning of the ovf/evf SUPER hard to go back to smashing my big oily nose all over my screen. 🤣🤣🤣

I bought my M10 shortly after getting a Z6.. and to be really honest, I never really clicked with it.. I upgraded my Z6 to a Zf this week and that's been the nail in the coffin for me. The M10 will have to go. It's a great camera, but I just don't feel the same with it as I did with my M6 that I started with all those years ago. I miss the honesty of that camera and of film. Even my old M9 somehow felt nicer with its glossy black paint and slow film-like approach. Maybe it's the rose tinted glasses, and I have to be honest, the lenses are fantastic. But now I'm just going to get a set of Thypoch lenses and those will scratch the 'small manual focus lens' itch. A few native primes for lazy days.. I'm fairly confident this suits me much better.

Great video and that camera brings life to your photos. One thing. Remember that spot metering is only available on the M10 when live view is turned on. Otherwise the camera only has Center Weighted metering. Btw, since you love 28mm, what makes this camera better for you than the Q series? The rangefinder or the possibility to change lenses? Thanks for sharing.
@hunterhart122 күн бұрын
I prefer the Q in a lot of situations but it is just the lens options for this. I like the Voigtlander 28mm as well and 35 for the flares, things the Q could never do unfortunately. However, if I were to decide to go to another camera from this one I’d go Q2.

I love them but my only issue is that with correct glass, nearly any camera can replicate 99.9% of what the Leica produces (your shots are stellar, you'd produce quality on anything with your skill). Such a high cost that in reality gains you the smallest benefits, if any. I suppose same goes for a Rolex. There are many watches that are more accurate, careful in design or with more features... yet the Rolex sits atop its throne. At that point you have to ask yourself, is the name worth the extra $3,000? Does anybody looking at these images know, or even care it was shot on a Leica at the end of the day? We all know the answer. Yet here I sit, with my over priced watches...
