Leighton was THE man, my grandfather was the first guy to sign him to a team, the 'Fighting Blood' in Porth, Rhondda. Leighton was 17 then, the first time I met him, 20 years later, he still remembered 'Ernie Clark'.................life is great.

I didn't know Leighton Rees used to knock around in Porth as a lad. I know people from Porth. Not exactly a long hike from Ynysybwl but no closer than Pontypridd.

I used to love watching Leighton back in the day when I was a teenage boy, he was so natural and made it look easy.

He had to give Alen Evans half the winnings because they would always share the prize money in every event they played together.

(Going by this new handle now, so same guy). Nice that you've got those Lowe darts, mate! (I like bullet darts but I can't throw with anything that isn't knurled, or they slip right out of my fingers.) One thing I noticed about Lowe that surprised me (the first time I saw him throwing from a head-on angle) was that he sights the board with his darting hand placed over to the left.

I think it would be impossible to go against Lowe and Hankey in terms of smoothness of action (good call), but Beaton in the top three? I appreciate his action is smoother than someone like Ceri Morgan's, and don't get me wrong, I like his style, but surely he doesn't compare with the likes of Lowe and Hankey when it comes to a fluid, aesthetically pleasing throw.

As far as actions go then not sure about Baxter. I was referring to smoothness of action. Thats why I never mentioned the best player of all time Mr Phil Taylor, I just feel his is not an action easily copied and is natural to him. Similar with snooker, I think Steve Davis in his day had the perfect 'Rolls Royce' action, he was the first of the 'modern day players' in terms of playing snooker as a science. Paul

Matter of opinion of course, and that I'd place Beaton in top 3. But John Lowe, Ive tried to copy his style to the upmost, and true to say Ive now made 70 maximums, but just cant quite match his style to the max even if appears so to the outsider Im told. Again Ted Hanky, Id give loads for his action but we are born with that we have so guess Ill chip away at my John Lowe style LOL. Incidentally I have a set of Johyn Lowe 21g tungstens bought new I think £16 back in say 1977/78 or so.

Regards darts 'action's I'd be interested to see what others think, question is 'who are the darts players with the best ACTIONS ever seen on TV'. If I start then I'd say: 1) John Lowe 2) Ted Hanky 3) Steve Beaton What do others think? Regards, Paul

@David Kent He turned his own on a lathe and used cane for shafts. He was a one off. Mervyn King also made his original, rather unique darts, I believe at school in metalwork class.

Oche -the name for the line where they throw from
@phillym7233 жыл бұрын
Nope. He says Hockey because that's what it used to be called. They use to use Hockey brewery beer crates to measure the line. Toeing the Hockey was the original phrase. Then at some point in time in got changed to oche.
@ynotnilknarf393 жыл бұрын
@@MyFoodeater But he pronounced it with the strong H, i know what it's called, but he said H-ockey.
@ynotnilknarf393 жыл бұрын
@@phillym723 This doesn't make sense because even IF that were true, he had been calling it the 'oche' with no pronounced H in commentary. And also darts historianPatrick Chaplain says there is no such brewery called Hockey and sons, and never was. So that's a fallacy. Possibly a slip of the tongue but there was no brewery crate to measure unless you can prove that there was in fact a brewery called Hockey.
