Alt+D+F+S for clearing the filter from all the rows without actually removing the filter. Ctrl+shift+L will remove the entire filter, while Alt+D+F+S just clears it Alt+O+C+A for auto width column Alt+H+N+S for converting number to Short Date Alt+H+K for converting the number into accounting format. Been using these options frequently. Thank you Leila for the valuable inputs.

My two favorite shortcuts I've learned in the past few years are: cntrl [ in a cell with a formula linked to another cell (could be a cell on a different tab or file) and it will take you directly to it. Then to get back the shortcut is F5 Enter. These are my favorite shortcuts and I never see these on shortcut lists. Great video overall as usual!

Hi Leila, Thanks a ton for your useful videos! The most common Excel short cut key I use is Ctrl+D. If I am in a particular cell it just copies the value of the corresponding column cell in the row above it. It applies to formulae too. I use this along with Ctrl+Space to copy formulae for all cells of the row above current row..
@wayneedmondson10655 жыл бұрын
Hi Leila.. great summary of useful keyboard shortcuts. You might want to add.. to unhide hidden rows CTRL+SHIFT+9 and unhide hidden columns CTRL+SHIFT+0. Also, if you want to group instead of hide, use SHIFT+ALT+RIGHT ARROW (to group) and LEFT ARROW (to ungroup). Another good keyboard is ALT+Q to jump to the Tell Me or Search field to quickly query EXCEL for help. I use these every day. Thanks for sharing and thumbs up!

Thanks.. a couple more I use: ALT+PAGE DOWN OR PAGE UP to move a full screen right or left; ALT+; to copy just the visible cells from a highlighted range that includes hidden or filtered rows or columns.. can also be used as a quick way to see if rows or columns are hidden via the thick double line that shows on the screen when selected; CLTL+C to copy and CTRL+ALT+V to bring up the Paste Special dialog.. then V, ENTER (or any other accelerator key for different paste special options) and ESC to complete the paste and deactivate the dancing ants. The list goes on.. CTRL+D and CTRL+R to copy contents directly above or directly to the left of the current cell; F5 or CTRL+G for the Go To dialog, etc... I love keyboard shortcuts and succession key sequences.. so much faster and more efficient than using the mouse, once learned and trained into the brain. Looking forward to your follow up. Thumbs up!

Awesome lecture as always! I prefer Alt, H, V, V instead of Alt, E, S, V (you gotta press enter or click ok after that cause it's a button choice). I guess it's stuck in my brain from months of usage, even though ES is shorter than HVS when you need a special not on the main menu, but I can't get myself to use it. So I use HVV for paste values (you can do HVSV enter or ESV enter), HVW column widths (you can do HVSW enter or ESW enter), HVF formulas (you can do HVSF enter or ESF enter), HVR formats (you can do HVST enter or EST enter). To be completely honest I am trying to incorporate HVF and HVR instead of HVSF enter and HVST enter but like I said it's not leaving my head. Hope I've helped somebody. Also absolutely love Shift+Ctrl+L for filters, Ctrl+E flash fill magic and Shift+Space/Control+Space for the selection (didn't know those last 3, ty!). For insert row I use Alt, I, R, or Alt, I, C for columns. But yours is just fine, in fact it's better since there's no equivalent for deleting them in my solution. Gonna have to learn those! Also I love F4 in all of its uses. The bonus just blew my mind...

Thanks for the great comments. I use "Alt ;" all the time to copy visible cells only (instead of using the "select special" menu). You highlight the area you want to copy first, then type "Alt ;", and then Ctrl-C to copy... now you can go paste this anywhere with Ctrl-V (or right-click paste), and you'll only be pasting the visible cell you copied.

Some great shortcuts, and I didn't know the one for highlighting the numerical constants at the end. I shall practice that one! One of my favourites is an alternative to yours for Copy and Paste Values. The Ctrl key on its own opens Smart Tags, so what I do is this: Select, then copy with Ctrl C Paste as normal with Ctrl V, but then tap and release Ctrl, then V. This opens the Smart Tag and selects the Values option. Other letters select other options in the Smart Tag box, e.g. Ctrl then A gives you Values and number formatting.

I’ve learnt more new ones from the comments section than the video itself! My additions would be: Alt + down arrow on a filter cell and alt+ space bar to select and unselect filtered texts

Ctrl-D to fill down, F2 to edit active cell, and F12 to save as... are among my most used shortcuts not mentioned in this video. Personally I find the old versions far superior for the ease of discovering keyboard shortcuts. The loathsome ribbon interface in 2007 onward hides the handy Alt key menus (unless you had already memorized them from running older versions, which is why the dropdown menus were already better in the first place.) Excel 5.0 inside of Office 4.3 also allows you to revert the menus to the Excel 4.0 format and back, which makes some repetitive keyboard shortcuts even faster.

Agreed on the ribbon mess. Microsoft started downhill when they decided users needed to see enormous images and banners and grey bars that take up a third of the screen. Removing and minimizing them is a temporary fix. Now, Teams is a nightmare of trash that forces the shared images to be less than half the screen.
@DavidWonn3 жыл бұрын
@@TrilobitesRTasty And it gets even worse for those of us with vision problems who need lower screen resolutions. The ribbon mess just takes up way too much of the screen at low resolutions.

@@DavidWonn YES! I'm an old guy...and the so-called "Accessibility Settings" that Microsoft creates are unusable. So it is with monopoly power. They have dominance over the desktop, so no longer have to provide good products.
@DavidWonn3 жыл бұрын
Both of my retinae detached, so I prefer the zooming capabilities on my tablet over the accessibility features on newer PCs. One of the reasons is that over time, Microsoft gradually removed support for lower resolutions. This makes me gravitate to my ancient IBM PS/2, which allows me to run it in a sub-VGA resolution at 640*400 on Windows NT 3.51.
@TrilobitesRTasty3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidWonn Ouch. I have a history of retinal detachment in my family. For now, I just keep buying bigger monitors. At least the price of those is dropping (mostly).

For paste as value: you can use ctrl C and then ctrl V and again Ctrl and after press V. My favourite and fastest.
@gt57135 жыл бұрын
Slightly faster if using macros, if you need to do this often: Put the below into your personal file, then assign the macro a shortcut of control-shift-V, or whatever shortcut you like. Sub PasteSpecialValues() 'shortcut ctrl-shift-V (paste values) Application.DisplayAlerts = False: On Error Resume Next: Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues: Application.DisplayAlerts = True: End Sub
@haerfrro15 жыл бұрын
Assign "Paste Value" to Quick Access Toolbar and then you only have to press Alt + 4 (or 5 or 6 or... depending on personalization). Only 2 buttons - it's the fastest...
@junelagbas15055 жыл бұрын
Easiest is ctrl C then you right click on the cell and press v
