One of the first stories I ever read in a Modern Library anthology when I was 7 years old in 1963. Great authentic radio adaptation of the original story, (and the sound quality is fantastic for a 75 year old broadcast!) That sounds like Gerald Mohr as the Commissioner. Thanks for uploading this. 👍

The William Conrad episodes were broadcast in January and May, 1948. This version, with Tudor Owen, was broadcast, as you note, in August, 1949. Nice clean up. Thanks!

Excellent quality of sound for a production of this era. A lot of what survived from this time is on Armed Forces Radio records (tape not yet common after the war). Records that have been played to death. Thank you for this rare episode. While a big Gerald Mohr fan, I like Willian Conrad better in this role 😏
@SuspenseESCAPEremastered2 жыл бұрын
Most of my uploads that have been digitally restored began with the best copies of the AFRS records. When I began looking into creating a channel, I found that the sci-fi and horror episodes were the ones played to death! I hope you found all of my Escape uploads, because 90% sound as good as this one. I also tend to prefer William Conrad as Leiningen! Did you know there was a B movie of this story? William Conrad and Charleton Heston starred in it!
@EnvisionerWill2 жыл бұрын
I mentioned my pick before for what was probably the objective best episode of Escape. This one, however, is my personal favorite...or rather, some version of it. I could have sworn that Leiningen was played by William Conrad in the one I'd grown up loving; that's clearly not the case here. I don't think this actor does justice to the role as well as Conrad would, and possibly did. But it's still a magnificent story, and I think this script is probably word-for-word the same as the version I'm thinking of.
@SuspenseESCAPEremastered2 жыл бұрын
Conrad also did Leiningen in two other versions, one for Escape and one for Suspense. The scripts are pretty much identical. Conrad also had a role in the film with Charleton Heston - read my description for this episode - when you can, read the description for every one of my uploads!
@EnvisionerWill2 жыл бұрын
@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered I do frequently look at them. I found the Suspense episode, but IMO Escape is a better show format. If you happen to upload the Escape Conrad Leinengen, I'll be a happy camper (you haven't uploaded anything for like a year, it looks like, but it's never too late to start again if you feel down for it!).
@SuspenseESCAPEremastered2 жыл бұрын
@@EnvisionerWill I've always liked Escape more than Suspense, too! I plan on posting the Conrad version, and hope to get back to uploading this year . . . right now I just don't have any enthusiasm - my wife has been very sick going on two years now.

Saw this on t.v with Charleston Heston and stunning Elenor Parker. He was big, sweaty, and tan. He married a stranger. She was educated and soft and beautiful. The plantation home was rich. Their attire was rich. The couple had standards of conduct that were pulling them apart. When the ants overwhelmed the place, the two took up arms together and truly found the value in each other. Every one must see❤😮
@jimbell41374 жыл бұрын
This story was written just a few years before the development of modern organo-phosphorus insecticides. One crop-duster aircraft could do 20 square miles of ants in a couple days, I'd imagine.

Too bad the Ripley Stratagem had not been invented yet: *Phase 1* "I say we take off, and nuke the entire site from orbit... It's the only way to be sure." 99% effective, probably a war-crime so keep quiet. *Phase 2* Power-Armor combat on main landing deck of orbital jump-ship. 0% effective, 9000% badass *Phase 3* Plan A Air-lock'd Success rate increases in direct proportion to risk factor. If 100% assured, the corporation will posthumously scapegoat you for Phase 1. Plan B Set auto self destruct in case employee is incompetent and fails. Posthumously scapegoat employee highlighting incompetence. Plan C Set NavCom to nearest penal-colony planet, let someone else deal with it. Posthumously scapegoat employee for incompetence and derelict of duty / negligence.
